Agreed. Ideas like, "Do I go back to the bonfire to spend souls leveling up, but knowingly respawn rooms," choice, seems less interesting if those level-ups are for a one-and-done game. I have to believe there is progression/campaign elements.
Likewise, while cater so much to FLGS and offer point-of-purchase, exclusive models, expansions, etc... if you don't intend for the game to be played often in the way you would want a community for any table-top game?
Hell, having YOUR leveled and geared character pop into a friend's game on a night, and both of you taking away progress is a VERY Dark-Souls experience.
Part of me thinks there HAS to be progression... but I don't want to be crushed if it isn't there. If it is though, and is substantial? HOOOOO Boy.... this could be amazing.
Agreed!
There has to be a leveling up mechanic - that's one of the whole 'points' of the DS game right?

Agreed. The very ethos of Dark Souls, be it the PVP or PVE side also is one which doesn't even care for imbalances. Summoning someone "over-leveled" into a low-level players game is just fine for a world where time doesn't work quite right, and worlds sort of intermingle periodically.
Still, I would feel massively more excited if they could confirm that and speak to the extent of it if it does exist.

Even a simple "it's coming, don't worry" type comment would help.
Just seems strange for such a variety of content to have it all end up being a one off, but there also doesn't seem to be anything mechanical that we can see to link events together either.

And yet they keep talking about the importance of exploration, go out of their way to bling it out with physical barrels and chests, etc...
Now that the rush of plastic-crack is dying down, I hope more level-headed discussion starts pushing for mechanical questions. I mean, Salute demo'd the boss battle... half the stretch-goals are boss battles, the retailer expansions are.... We get it, the boss battles/AI are dope. :-) What else is there to do? :-p

I've never Kickstartered before, but I've heard some people say they'll pledge a kickstarter, then sell what they get from it to fund their wargaming/boardgaming/minis hobby. Some people reckon they can basically fund their hobby 100% this way.
This is clearly a very popular project with lots of stretch goals, meaning in theory lots of things to sell once it's all delivered. Obviously it also depends on demand once it's released, but given the amount of funding, and general chat about it, it seems the demand would be there.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Any tips, warnings, success stories?

I would hope there's some form of leveling up considering the enemy cards give you souls for killing them.
If you die, then you drop everything you have collected and reappear at the nearest bonfire. So do you return to the bonfire to rest and spend Souls to strengthen up, but in doing so fully reset the locations? Or do you press on and pray that the next encounter isn’t beyond your capabilities?

This one is not the one to try that with. There are no KS exclusives, thats where the real money is. My advice would be to wait for CMON's Massive Darkness due out later this year and sure to have boatloads of exclusives that you can make some serious dough on later. Of course depending on how much competition you have selling the stuff later, on ebay, etc.

You can try this and make out like a bandit,
for example if you bought into the kingdom death kickstarter initially (and didn't need the cash in the 2-3 years it took to deliver) you could have made a bunch of cash, a $100 pledge could have been sold off for $7-800 if you'd been amongst those who got the first deliveries and sold when demand was high. A highly anticipated game with huge demand.
but on the other hand you can crash and burn spectacularly
for example sedition wars where a $100 game ended up on sale at $20-40. Sadly the actual game was seen as not fun by many and it crashed and burned at retail
most fall somewhere in between. Getting your stuff delivered at the front of the queue (usually not under your control) is often the key as there is usually transient demand when the ks is delivering before stores get hold of it (and before reviews say the game is rubbish in some cases) where you can get the best prices. You also have to think of where and how you'd sell as there's always a risk your buyer (ebay/bartertown/dakka etc) turns out to be a scammer or deadbeat.
so personally I don't recommend it unless you kind of wouldn't mind having an extra copy of whatever it is at the KS price (eg to use the minis for something else, to give as a gift etc) then you can aways change your mind and sell the second copy if prices go sky high. That way you're not relying on selling it, you just giving yourself an option

I have backed a fair number of Kickstarters, had the vast bulk deliver, and sold the bulk of that. Mostly, it's me selling stuff that I thought I'd like, but then became disenchanted with, and getting my money back. I effectively sold 2 units to pay for each 1 I kept. I probably could have done better had I looked at this as a business, but I don't think there's much money in it. As a business, I think speculation is a high risk business model, and would not advise anybody going into this for real money: - you invest cash upfront - you gamble that someone delivers a good product in a timely fashion, and - you hope that there will be a market when you receive and want to sell. There are a lot of things that can go wrong after your money is sent, from outright thievery (Defiance), incompentence (Ogre, Robotech), and simple delay (RK, KD:M). If you are OK sinking $1,000s in and potentially making +50% return a year (or more!) from now, go for it. For this particular KS, I am not backing: 1. VERY EXPENSIVE and non-USD 2. uninspiring product (I own KD:M) 3. poor project management Of these, SFG's inability to tell their ass from their elbow is the real dealbreaker.

I'm with Orlando - it is, overall, an absolutely awful way to attempt to make money.
Only 'invest' in Kickstarters that you actually want to have - any 'profit' you make after that is gravy...

Reminds me of the advice for investing in commodities -- only buy wine, because you can at least drink your investment!
* If you're already selling on eBay,. sure, why not.
* Shipping costs have risen, and will make selling less attractive than buying from the OLGS.
* The base game typically drops in value, especially since it will eventually go on sale at the OLGS with free shipping.
* Add-ons in a KS are typically sold at a poor discount. (probably to offset the creator not knowing how many units they will actually sell during the KS), so don't bother with them.
* So it's the SG's you'll make the most profit on, if any. (No, those free SG's aren't free, because you could be buying the base game on sale at a lower price from the OLGS with free shipping.) As said, exclusives are in higher demand than non-exclusives.
One thought is to buy a copy of the base pledge and sit on it while you try to sell off the exclusives and SG's. If you sell them, great, you just got a "free" base game. If you don't, fine, you bought yourself a game to play below OLGS discount.

Seems like during the night the KS had a good push and the Black Knight set has been unlocked!
Hello Unkindled,
The Black Knight Set has been unlocked. We hope you enjoy these sets, the next one has been silhouetted, I sure you can have a guess at which it will be.
Before the next Set can be unlocked you need to make the Frost Knight even harder to kill.
You're support is still outstanding! You are growing the campaign at an incredible rate.

I know for myself, any concerns smaller than, say "these models are going to look like gak and the game will be unplayable" are secondary to the fact that this is Dark Souls. It seems I'm not alone in my blind fanboy-ness

The next one up is an iconic armour set from the game - made famous by the Onion Knight himself!
Finally, lets have a quick recap of what every backer has unlocked currently on this project - the pile is getting larger and larger by the day!

I'm in for now and if I keep my pledge its because i'm a fan of DS and I want the mini's. I wouldn't bother trying to make a profit off this KS. There are no exclusives or any reason why someone would pay you tons of money versus going to a retailer and paying msrp. There are huge flags going off, at least for me, that the game is going to be terrible. The lack of information is the main reason for that concern but it also me shows where they are in the development process. I think they have the boss fights down and no idea about the rest.

It's a major pain, because it's not like Steamforge hasn't run a hugely successful Kickstarter before. And they've spent the past year making Guild Ball into one of probably the most well-balanced and fun games currently on the market, and its popularity isn't slowing down. I can see two reasons for the problems. One is that they're working with Bamco, and that's a huge anchor that's dragging them down. Two, the team working on the board game doesn't have the same amount of experience/skills that the Guild Ball team has. If that's the case, it's an eerie/annoying/funny echo of FromSoftware, whose B Team was responsible for Dark Souls 2, compared to the main team's effort with the original.

somethinngs that are bothering me:
1. Almost 1.5kk and only 2 new bosses. IMO, bosses are essential for the longetivity of a game. Take Myth: journeyman or Sword and Sorcery, for exemple. For the same price we get a $%¨load of bosses.
2. No word about the "dungeon crawl" aspect of the game. Boss fight is very good, im sold. But need to know how is the world, progression, etc.
3. Over 10k backers, expect delays (not a real problem, tho)
