7th edition was released in May 2014 which was 2 years which according to the wiki was 1 yr and 11 months after 6th. Previously they were 4 years apart. Do you think they will return to the once every 4 yr release pattern or could we be seeing a new rules set this year?

I think they're done updating any rulebooks and now are only making add-ons like all of the campaign books

Thats an interesting point. I have heard it suggested that they may switch to a supplement only model in place of codex releases but there's no doubt that rules and codex/supplement produces revenue for them.

But a new rulebook is inevitable be it 2 months 2 years or 4 years, it will have to come

It is key to GW's business model to try and force people to buy new rules and codexes every few yeas. However this policy bit them in the arse with 6th and 7th edition, which actually lead to a significant decline in sales. This was IMO caused by a combination of unpopular rules changes, and doubling the price of books.

Therefore GW are likely to want to publish a new edition, hopefully reversing the bad decisions they made in 6th/7th, but they won't do it too soon. I would guess mid-2017 at the earliest.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

It takes GW 2 years to get new rules developed and printed.

And I don't think that they would bring another one that fast.
If they start to collect rule questions and want to adress actual Problems, we will see a new rulebook in 2018.

I thought Chaos Space marines weren't getting a new codex due to us probably being one of the first to get theirs in the next edition of rules, as with 7th.
After the recent data sheets/books released for Chaos it makes me fear for the length of time we'll be waiting for an 8th edition.
And oh man does this game need revamping.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

I don't think they care about a new ruleset now. Rules are only a glorified catalog for GW models.

8th edition will probably not come out. It's likely going to be a Warhammer 40k 2.0, GW doesn't care about the balance of the game as they have repeatedly stated and the only time they would change the game is when it stops being an advantage for the sale of products.

Considering the amount of posts they got on their FAQ Facebook page, they may decide to just do 8th edition.

Wouldn't count on it though. The BRB refers to you as the playing making your own house rules. GW has abdicated responsibility to the players. It's things like the ITC and gentleman's agreements that keep the game somewhat balanced

Maybe there should be a player-made version of the game to get things fixed, then fighting for it to be universally accepted

That would be the ITC and not everyone accepts it. I know Tau players don't because they have had a lot of nerfs for their army.

My guess: next year there will be a 13th Black Crusade "End Times" event that will precede a new edition and a new CSM codex.

The ITC is a tournament restriction list, I was talking about a comprehensive ruleset or game system From the 2016 season I do'nt see the restrictions you're talking about except maybe in army selection but it doesn't change the individual unit problem.

Eldar Jetbikes are still criminally undercosted, MCs can still dip their toe in cover.

True. Which is why I don't agree with the ITC.

They making changes to the RAW (such as Invisibility for exaple and re-rollable 2+ saves), so why they aren't making changes for MC to be in line with vehicles and costing models as they should be elludes me.

I don't really play 40k anymore. I'm in the process of selling my stuff to focus on Infinity, a ruleset I'm more fond off, because their are less balance issues and Corvus Belli actively support their game and tournament scene. I'm only keeping one 40k army (Orks). Maybe my Blood Angels too, for 30k battles - might change them into Mantis Warriors though. White Scars chapter tactics through successor, Furious Charge from cover and HoW (in theory, they should be better than BA on the charge, and that's just sad).

Actually I am when I think about it. Land Speeder Storms are an awesome model to me, as well as the Stormtalon.

Doing this for 3 years now but it seems that the GW rules are the best out there and players do not want a change....

(the problem is that there are a lot out there that don't want the change because than they have no chance to be "that guy" any more, and another group which says the rules are fine, but the players need to change their mind of how to play the game. So you are fighting 2 different groups that seem to have a lot of influence)

In order for players to accept a player written rule set or group written rule set 40K end times will have to happen. They would have to make everyone use square bases, move infantry in trays, and basically turn 40K into WHFB in order for a non official rulebook to be accepted.

Never they are going to AoS 40k and commit commercial suicide either this year or next.

No one plays unbound by choice so GW's going to force it on them because points stop people buying big kits to their thinking.

Yeah, get Community rules out and instead of targeting those who are happy with 7th, try to get those back in that left with 6th and/or bring in new players that just want to play the fan-rules.

And this need to happen before everyone left 40k behind for the other games around.

I can say as a Tau player at first glance I was frustrated, not of the rulings but the way it was done. The followup vote throwing Tau a bone with the Ghostkeels combined with actually reading through all the rules to see how it would play out, I am perfectly fine with what ITC has done so far.

Any Tau player that complains about the Coordinated fire nerf, or the piranha firestream nerf is splitting hairs. Firestream is still good, Coordinated fire is still good.

The fact that they nerfed invisibility so it is no longer "snap firing" means that any +1 to BS without specifically stating "it effects snapfire" will now work. So Coordinated firepower gives +1 against invis units, the Ghostkeel/Riptide wings cascade fire gives +1 against invis units. ITC has greatly nerfed deathstars and that is in Tau's and many other factions favor.

+1 ITC. Keep up the good work.

I think as someone stated above, because of the extreme amount of feedback on the FAQ request, I would not be surprised if they elected to not do an FAQ and just release a 7.5 edition (calling it 8th).

Somewhere in south-central England.

That ignores the opinions of people like me who are lapsed players who haven't commented on 7th edition because not having read or played the rules there are no questions to ask about them.

I mean it's not necessarily an invalid approach, but GW should be thinking if they can get people like me back in as well as retaining people who have liked 6th/7th.

A significant re-write leading to a proper fresh edition would be the only way to achieve that.

Considering GW's significant declines in sales since 6th edition hit, it's likely they want to look into that possibility.

You make a great point there. They attack some issues of obvious unbalance and ignore others. Why even bother balancing at all? I just don't understand why they don't do the obvious thing and not allow IC's from different armies to join different squads. AND OR just limit the number of IC's that can join a single squad to 2.

I would guess that much will be being made of how well or poorly AoS is doing. It was a distinct departure from GW's usual style and how it's done and is doing would be of interest to GW in terms of changes to 40k.

I hope to all the gods and devils we retain points values. I really want to see 40k stripped of so much churn and bloat (detachments, unbound, formations, random charts a-gogo) but something that drastic will kill the game imo.

I bet there will be a new Edition with the release of the quick play kits.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.
