As a blood angels player, I'd like to work more jump-pack marines into my army, but I only have two options, these guys and assault squads.

They seem cool and fun, you only need ten of 'em, their weapon options are interesting, and rad grenades will let me wound enemy marines in hand to hand on a 2+ but oh my god are they expensive.

About 32 points each, vs about 20 for the assault marines (who are already supposedly going to come down in price), and for that all you're getting is an extra pistol shot, counter attack, rad grenades, and dif, but not necessarily better, weapon upgrades.

Do these guys ever justify that point cost?

Could I deep strike em in and fire three inferno pistol shots at a tank's rear armor?

Or do you use two rad missile launchers and phosphex grenades to deep strike next to some tactical squad and just annihilate them.

I could at least potentially deep strike em in turn 1 and with a 5+ cover save, which helps a bit, but man oh man are they pricey.

They are very costly. When you play with them and forget about how many points they cost, they make good shock troops. I run mine with the missile launchers with rad missiles, and give the Sarge at least 1 phosphex bomb. And either target infantry, MCs, or characters.

The big benefit of Destroyer Squads in my personal experience hasn't been for killing average Marines. Their bread and butter is best when facing higher than average toughness. For example ImpFist (anything with a shield), high toughness Characters, and such. Two five man squads working together with an assaulty squad can drop toughness by 2.

I've never seen them to be much good on their lonesome, but when working together with proper units they are fun, and useful.

When did they get the dual pistol shots?

I have HH book 1 here, and the first red book, but I seem to be missing that rule. Is it an FAQ, or do to them a having dual pistols they get the additional shot. I have been running a ten marine squad for sometime and never noticed/ read that.

It's in the core rulebook.

Well feth my life! Hurray GUNSLINGER! That just adds to the awesome.

I have always used them, primarily, to hammer away at power armour equipped squads, or high toughness characters. Two rad missile launchers and phosphex for the Sgt always work well.

Sheee-it, might have to build a squad then...

Give you a good reason to build a Moritat. IIRC, they can only join units of Legion Destroyers.

Hand Flamers don't miss.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

in my chem list I have a moritat running with either 2 5-man squads w/ missile + 2 phopshpex or a single 10-man with missile + 2 phosphex. they mulch 3+ save units (and mechanicum to an extent, 'cause that stackable, toughness dropping, rad grenade is joyous), can ruin 2+ save units (though risky, but dropping the phosphex on them can be fun)

Just remember: Blood Angels we're a bit more honorable, so they probably didn't field them in too high of numbers, so if you wanted to be fluffy, you may want to limit yourself. Sadly, they don't have a heavy flamer you can swap for an assault cannon

2 things:

1) they can hurt things T: 6 or less, T: 7 is double + 1 so it can't hurt those
2) Technically, you have an infinite wound pool using hand flamers, but since you can never miss, that technically means you can't move on since you gotta shoot him 'till you miss, no?

You still have to roll to wound, no? Hand flamers are S3 AP6 iirc.

Edit: oh boy, I see what you're getting at. You never miss. Yeah, they should probably FAQ that. Seems like a bug rather than a feature.

It's already been Stated by FW it's not an intended thing, and suggest not using it but it will be fixed in the future.

I'd hope so. Auto-killing anything and everything you point at under T7 seems a tad OP

Hey, don't forget, assault cannons are a heavy weapon and heavy flamers are an assault weapon, so why would I want those on my jump pack guys :p

Where does it say moritats can only join destroyers tho?

Also ditto on the hand flamer thing, forgeworld has stated theyre going to eratta that out since you dont roll to hit, and theyre not GW so i believe them. Also my twinferno moritat is pretty tits. He can put 20 S8 Ap1 melta hits on a target, easy

It says in the Consul Rules, under the Moritat Section that they may only join Legion Destroyers. It also says they never benefit from RoW, so technically they would be unaffected by the Blood Angel RoW "The Day of Revelation"

Ahhh just saw that. Odd, since destroyer rules aren't in that book.

And don't worry about the fluff, folks, I'll be building at most be building one squad of these guys. Cannot imagine fielding more at current cost! Just sort of a 'get me by' squad until I get some special units (which I'm sure will have jump packs). Besides, don't forget, Baal is an irradiated hellhole, Blood Angels should be very acquainted with the dangers of weaponized radiation.

Destroyers are in book one, right after Veteran Tacticals. Its just a certain scan of that book is missing the page.

Pre-empted . That is correct, fun character to use, but gain no benefits.

Wait, where does it say THAT? Because I just read the moritat entry in book 1 and it doesn't say anything about rights of war.

It's not in Book 1. It is in the red Crusade Army List book. Looks like 'Lone Killer' has been added to along the way.

With some destroyers tagging along, that could be quite fun.
