Playmobil fascinates me. It is perhaps the most German children's toy imaginable.

I was following the links through Amazon.
Quite the collection, especially some of the famous artworks recreations.
Not as charming as the Hans Christian Andersen Ugly Duckling LEGO exclusive from the Copenhagen store but that's just me.

Playmobil is amazing in the sheer scope it encompasses. From historical to fantasy to medieval to sci fi there's literally EVERYTHING in there. I wish they could get the license to do Marvel and DC sets, I'd love to have those characters finally in a shared scale that doesn't involve expensive snap together bricks I don't give a gak about.

I dunno, never really like Playmobile, it had the abstraction of Legos but without the custom ability. Might just be an acquired taste if you didn't grow up with them.

Playmobil excels in quality for cost - the toys are just really beautifully made - even from simple plastics. They're robust and long-lasting. Had plenty growing up, and have a bunch stashed for the kids later in life.
I played many a WW2 battle as a kid - using large beautiful european houses and castles from Playmobil, etc.

I preferred Lego growing up, but me and my brother had plenty of both, and thanks to it's longevity all of it is now being played with by my Niece who is carrying on expanding them both

My favoured revision aid through GCSEs and A levels.
45 minutes head in book, 15 minutes trying to use as much of my Space LEGO bits as I could to make a massive cruiser before it collapsed under its own weight.

In my neighborhood the goal was to make a ship that could withstand reentry, by which I mean tossing it off a flight of stairs.
I eventually got it to work.

While we're on the topic of Playmobil...their pirate ships which come in/out of production often (frequently with changed sails or crew) are superb robust bases for 28-32mm style ships. They're dirt cheap, and really solid.
In fact, I just remembered I have one of these damn Playmobils ships sitting in a box somewhere...maybe a hobby project!

Adventure Force 40 and 50 count tubs of figures have surprisingly good terrain included. The farm set has two amazing trees, and after a search I found a safari set that has three of those trees along with a ton of molded plastic rocks. All for about $6 to $15 depending on the piece count.

I found some of these locally, and wanted to share. However, I am not sure how useful they will be considering the lack of weaponry.....

Found something that takes minimal work to get to decent at my dollar store for $5: The lids fit on snugly and the clear parts assemble separately from the opaque plastic parts. You can make plasma generators etc and a cheap LED tealight easily hides out of view for dramatic lighting. The palace heads on the concrete base are pretty nice too.

My order of Red Alert ships made it from England to Egypt in about 6 weeks and I'm happy with what I got.
https://www.theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/product/34-x-assorted-psc-games-space-ships-grab-bag/
I ordered 2 bags for 10 GBP each, 34 ships a bag.
The sets are slanted towards the bigger ships, 4", with some medium 3" and a few small at 2".
For reference in BFG cruisers are about 3.5", battleships 5", escorts 1.5"
The style of the ship is kind of 'generically futurey' which may not be a bad thing since they will look and feel equally at home in the Final Frontier, a Galaxy Far, Far Away and the Grim Darkness of the Far Future.
There a red pencily ones and green boxy ones with a few grey wide bodies in there.
Like the dime store ships I picked a while back I see them mainly as filler like transports or wrecks are the makings of another Space Hulk.
These will definitely join the transport armada as Rogue Trader Supply Barges.
These 3 can be the makings of a quick and dirty Marine Fleet, Battle Barge, Strike Cruisers and an oversized escort.
They feel like PVC plastic but I have no real plans to convert them, I like the idea of taking them out of the bag and painting. Still have to see how well they take primer and paint.
So not a great buy but certainly a fine one with lots of uses if/when I return to ship painting.

I’ve painted* a few of them, but I don’t remember if I primed them or just painted them directly like Bones minis. So far, the paint has held...but I’m not exactly using them every week.

Which dollar store? If I can sell my wife on giving my daughter the slime mix, I can probably add that baby to my 40K terrain.

Those ships look great Kid! I could see those being the basis for a great spaceship game and would work well in the upcoming A Billion Suns or Full Thrust too.

What continues to amuse me is that...as a kid, my father was a big toy nut (he's a military gamer/modeler himself) so I've owned almost everything posted on this page - all of the old plastic toy soldier stuff. I had the later pictured mountain set, the plastic Marx trays, the chintzy castle, etc. I wish I'd held onto some of that stuff - but I moved a lot later in life.
