I wonder if this new faction will have a more then five units, including the duel kits.

It seems likely we will have dryads, spike revenants, half elf guys, new treekin (possibly dual kit), tree lord, tree Lord ancient, Alarielle and a couple of clam packs. That would make it the third biggest AOS faction after the bloodbound and the Stormcast.

I regularly see the starterset sell for about 700 SEK (including shipping) on Tradera (roughly 25% off). Those boxes have sold for a similar price ever since fall last year.

But that's Paul Dainton, an in-house artist that's been with GW for, what, fifteen years now? What's been posted in this thread is freelance work, something that GW orders by the bucket at below average rates.

Wonder if it's a leftover from Kirby days, or something they'll keep on doing as they move forward.

What you posted is the better kind of AoS art yes and there was actualy more in "The mighty battles..." book. The books that followed came with the worst offenders.

Even the best are far cry from even 8th edition stuff when it comes to grimdark/ madness/ horror though:

I would like to see it depend on the realm. Realm of light should be bright and vibrant and happy, but there should be grimdark in at least one of the realm (preferably several realms, but to varying degrees). Artwork that lets you know, intuitively, which realm it's from would be amazing.

Fantasy kind of passed me by until I heard it was being destroyed, but now I wish it hadn't. That artwork is great. It's a about as perfect a rendition of a Chaos spawn as I've ever seen, captures the essence of what such a creature would be like.

Dryads
Spite Revenants
Tree Revenants
Treelord
Treelord Ancient
Alarielle
Clamshell of a Dryad Branchwraith and another for some male equivalent to match the Tree Revenants. Alternatively, they make heroes out of the unit champions ala the Ghoul Court book that just came out.

That's my guess.

GW had a trademark style, why drop it for 999th bright and vibrant but sigmarines. It's only fresh against old GW fantasy and even if GW grimdark was "getting old" (It wasn't), AoS is old already against the rest of the market. And they don't even try to be best at it, the art is half hearted just like everything else about AoS.

I disagree. We don't need more 40K. But what Age of Sigmar can do is be like Lord of the Rings. By that I mean have everything. You can have nice bright settings (like the Shire) or gridmark like you said (Mordor) or inbetween. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Why can't be it be both or everything? After all different realms, forget that, LANDS are vaired, it can be what ever we want.

Those are good, not great. Sadly we have what 1 good pic out of every 10 (being generous) to 20 pieces of garbage or lack luster art? (Not really garbage but as I said before someone jumps down my throat, charging $100 for a book with lack luster art makes it garbage in my eyes).

Oh well, no Games-Workshop can't say they make a premium product anymore. Not with this kind of art work and writing that is going on lately.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Ok but that's just like the tone of 20 other fantasy board, card and video games I played this year. Bright land of knighty men, brighter elven land, burning daemon pit and grimdark land of the necromancer. Contrast because you have to have contrast within the universe they say but that's bs. The contrast for Lovecraft World is a real one and all the other, more hopeful and nicer books.

Also I'm not saying that I want everything to be Lovecraftian nightmare. The Old World had bright (though not nice) lands of HE and Bretonians but there was always some down to earth grit and appropriate mute to it. There are other ways to grimdark, you could have varied lands but grimdark tone or sth.

I would like to see a realm of light showed as bright but desolate or sth like that. You look at the artwork and it's bright and shining but still a little unnerving, cold, something is wrong. Not a drop of grimdark painted on, still grimdark though. It's something they actualy tried to slightly do with sigmarine mask I think but not sure.

But yes I didn't mean going early Blanche on every realm. Just something darker, more serious, less comfortable. IDK

Ofc the realms that don't need to be subtle about grimdark should make girlfriends run, parents pray and black metal frontmen shiver.

Found another illustration of Alarielle. Assuming the 'paint only miniatures as they are' policy holds true, there might be some Dryad archers coming. That, and the beetle looks pretty cool.

By the looks of it, it could be a really awesome model. I normally don't like insects, but that giant stag beetle looks more mechanical/golem than a real bug. The only thing that's a bit off for me is the cowl she's wearing. Personally, I prefer to see a long mane of hair rather than a cowl, on an elven female, but, eh, can try and convert it with some green stuff.
