It must've been way back when Kirby was in charge before AoS was even released. Was it the Eldar Dire Avengers after their rebox to a 5 strong box rather than the previous 10 man?

Yeah the Dire Avengers was one of the more egregious examples in the last few years. The lacklustre Eldar Start Collecting (edit: actually not SC but the recent Infantry+transport box) really shows this, it's the only one with only 5 Infantry and a vehicle. I can't remember when the last time was, every AoS reboxings so far has been a price decrease. Hopefully this isn't the start of a new trend but rather an exception.

It is unfortunate to see those prices go up. The battletome, the skyfires and the acolytes are all reasonably priced, so it is surprising. I imagine the are trying to encourage purchases of the start collecting set, as the more expensive boxes are all in that set and make it look a better deal.

Do you think you'll eventually leave the hobby due to price rises? I don't want to get my hopes up but thought I'd ask. Same question to the two Aussie Backslap brigade Joyboozer and HBMC

To be fair, Australia/NZ definitely has more reason than the rest of us to have an issue with pricing. It's crazy expensive there.

My guess is that they try to augment the base of player of AOS, so that's why their recent release are moderately priced. They don't have the same issue for 40k, so kits that can be used for 40k are still absurdely priced (for example, the tzaangors, which can be used in both settings, are by far the worst deal in the recent DOT release) Automatically Appended Next Post: Thebiggesthat wrote: streetsamurai wrote:To be honest, the fact that they try to charge us a few bucks to have the silver tower rules of some insanely priced miniatures, is a good enough proof for me that they haven't really changed. I do like mocking people but find the idea of stifling discussion abhorrent. It's why I never insulted that dude in the improved GW thread who claimed it was all smoke and mirrors, that give it a while and they'd go back to raising prices. I suppose technically he was incorrect as they haven't stopped using social media.
But it's so infuriating to come back to the hobby because GW have changed, and then the same gak happens. Is the only way to be profitable in this industry to be a complete dick?

Could they be increasing prices to offset lower profits from the start collecting set? It seems to me that wouldn't want to specifically encourage SC set purchases since they would have better margins off individual items.

Unfortunately, I think it's a requirement for every competitive luxury industry.
Though some are cases of simple bad judgements rather than pure greed/malice.

That thought crossed my mind as well. Some people were saying the SC sets would've bitten into their overall profits so maybe this might be a way to balance it out?
Edit: Just had a thought, do you think these models will also come with the new Warhammer quest? Two sources of Tzeentch deals might have encouraged the bump.

I'd rather they knock the SC up to $90 honestly, it would still be a great deal without hurting individual purchases.

They didn't do that with the Seraphon or Tau sets, and those are much better deals than a Tzeentch Daemons set at the current prices would be. That could still be the reason, it just seems strange they'd only start doing it now for a set that's middle of the road in terms of savings. I mean they're making it a better deal artificially, which would encourage more people to but the SC! box and either try and sell the units they don't need (assuming they aren't just after 1 of the units in the set) or just keep the extra units for summon fodder, or in case they want to mix up their list. As a Daemons player in 40k, a Word Bearers player in 30k and a Disciples of Tzeentch player in AoS I know the only way I'll be buying Tzeentch Daemons from now on is discounted Start Collecting! sets.

Ok you got me there, I'd just be buy those separately (also at a discount). Though that's assuming I even buy them. I'm not shelling out on Wrath of Magnus for their rules with 8th Edition looming so close, and I don't see myself using them is AoS any time soon.

Don't get me wrong, I thought about getting it when it first came out.
It's just with 8th I don't really want to buy any more 40k books, lest what little rules content I'd use becomes useless.
Plus after the writing in Curse of the Wulfen and the plot overview given by reviewers... the fluff part didn't sound appealing.
But now we're probably getting off-topic.

Is it worth buying? I love thousands sons, but that book is expensive. Which is weird as the AoS Tzeentch book is cheap as, almost an impulse buy.
