Subject: An Army of Baneblades or an Army of Imperial Knights?

I wanna know how many of you, now that the option of running pure super-heavy battleforged armies is a thing, would run one or the other? Note that this isn't a discussion about the rules or price; we all know the two probably doesn't line up as evenly as they should and a Baneblade is technically cheaper for the parts you get. This is purely which one is cooler in concept. EDIT: By "parts" I meant physical bitz, not their rules EDIT: Just note that this includes all the variants of each, so think about whether a Shadowsword is really more impressive than a Cerastus Knight and so on.

I already run a Baneblade superheavy tank regiment myself in 30k and it is pretty awesome.
However, the Baneblade is one of the most fairly-priced units in 40k and therefore is a tiny bit (noticably, though) underpowered compared to units like Stormsurges.
That said, the 40k formation rules make them pretty good again; and the 30k ruleset is much fairer to balanced units. So I vote for it!

I voted baneblades too. Imperial Knights are awesome but there's just something primal about columns of superheavy tanks rolling down the field.

Baneblades are too awesome not to field, especially in large numbers. I love knights too, but they're honestly lacking a bit.

I was pretty 50/50 on which I prefer, went for the knights simply for the image in my head of a squad of them stalking across a war torn land scape, all guns blazing.
Same could however be said for the Baneblades rumbling across the same landsacape

With the new FAQ, Baneblades cannot cross a ruin that has a wall, which pretty much blocks your formation from moving out of your deployment zone. At least Knights can walk around said ruins. /wink

As much as I'm a huge mecha head...the Baneblade is a much cooler looking unit and reminds me of the old Octotanks from Venus Wars the anime.

The Baneblade without Guard or atleast some massive human element just feels limp to me. I want to drive Stormlord up and barf out a metric crap ton of bodies on an enemy position while blasting away with some other Baneblade, but still have Wyverns shooting and those little Elysian dune buggy things going and Sentinels wandering around. That's my idea of an awesome army.
Five Knights or more is just all you need. Additions to Knights is just window dressing. Titans need Skitarii, but Knights don't need attendants and look just fine all on their lonesome.
Still would never run a Superheavy spam army but it's still my view on these individual units.

I voted Knights because they are less expensive via the IKR box, and they are better, because they don't just roll over and die in HtH. Also, because walking tanks > ordinary tanks. And they don't suck for the points. For the record, I own a couple of each.

Giant robots looming over the battlefield are just a shade cooler than lotsa tanks rumbling forwards.
I voted for knights but I would probably field tanks. Weird I know.

I like my knight, but I got mine by splitting a Renegade box so paid a lot less than full price. While the kit is really detailed, I think for the price I'd say the Baneblade kit is much better value, was even more-so before it was merged with the Shadowsword.
I have a Shadowsword and the model is simply huge. That said, I never get a chance to really play it in games, so I mostly use it as scenery (it can be fun to use it as mobile scenery that moves forward each turn, grinding down anything foolish enough to stay in its path). An Imperial Knight can fit into regular (2,000 points or more IMO) games a bit more easily. Of course if your opponents have more super heavies then you may have more chance to use yours.
So yeah, I like both models, but for me it's like comparing a Dreadnought to a Land Raider in terms of value for money; if you had to pay Land Raider money for a Dreadnought I might view it less favourably, even though I really Dreadnoughts (the models, they suck ball in game right now). Actually this is a poor example as all of my Dreadnoughts are lead and cost £15 nearly twenty years ago, and I automatically rank metal models triple for value for sheer heft, which is my main criticism of resin models (they feel like you've paid for a bit of styrofoam, even if they look great it's just the feel of it detracts for me).
Not completely sure what my point is; the knights are cool models, and very imposing next to regular units, but compared to a Baneblade or Shadowsword variant they aren't quite so impressive looking.

Wraith Knights will punk any Cerestas or Regular knight with its scary big black D weapons. These things cost less and can unload their massive scary D cannons all over the face of a Knight from 18 inches. The goggles! they do nothing! The nasty D is all up in the eyes!
The wraith knight could also swing 5 massive Ds in close combat! Imagine that WK charging into close combat and humping that baneblade and discharging its massive nasty D sword all over the rear engine and wiping it off with its limp hand.
The idea of the an army of baneblades or Knights are just a bad idea as vehicles can get penetrated and lose d3 hp compared to just 1 wound on a GMC. Not only that glancing hits still remove hp.

The Emperor's Fury Superheavy Tank Company is a formation in and of itself, not requiring a core if you don't want one.
It's three 'baneblade chassis' tanks and an enginseer - for the sake of elegance I recommend taking at least one Stormsword (or other transport tank) to allow you to carry the enginseer on board.

Thing is, that should be a variant. Just allow the player to mix and match. Want the D sword and 1 D cannon? Go for it! It's not like the don't include the parts to do so.

Only if they actually balance the damned thing, as it's clearly undercosted and/or too powerful.
Meanwhile both the Banebalde and Imperial Knights are pretty fair for the points. And would be more so if the vehicle rules weren't ranked last after everything else right now
But I think the question is probably more concerned with cool factor, in which case I place the Baneblade ahead of the Wraithknight for the same reason as the Imperial Knight; neither of the knights look quite as impressive next to a Baneblade or Shadowsword, even though they're all nice models.
