From what I've been able to Google, these are just the regular boxy dreads that I've been using in 40k for years.

Are there any differences between the 30k and 40k variants that I should be aware of for modeling? Half the point of HH stuff is to get the fluff... pretty close to correct (for me at least) , so I'd feel silly dropping an AoBR dread on the table if it's completely out of place.

Thanks.

From what I understand, no iron crosses, or maybe yes, the fluff is very inconsistant.
Maybe Less Bling because the legions where not much for bling, except maybe some of the other ones
But you will be good just taking the one from the old AOBR and putting it in the legion.

Yup. Try and avoid some of the bling, but if it's an AOBR dreadnought, it's fine.

The plastic venerable would look wrong - more because the panels are covered in the names of famous battles which haven't happened yet - but the basic dreadnought is fine. Avoid the assault cannon, though.

The Castraferrum is meant to be a smaller, boxier dreadnought that's less sophisticated but better able to fight in enclosed spaces - boarding, etc. - and could be churned out by the mechanicus more easily.

The Panels can be excluded, coveredwith just the kit. Actually the Venerable would not look too outta place in some legions, like the Emporers Children, Salamanders or Ultramarines, IMO
Heck, the space wolves venerable dread would look perfect for spacewolves.

For UM the current plastic Venerable dread would be fine because it has UM world names on it, unless it has Armageddon, which then...I would refrain from using those panels.

The Iron Cross was in use during the HH. Just not the rounded variant like the crux terminatus.

I have a related question.

Have any one of you used boxnoughts in 30k on normal battle to any succes?
I would like to field some but with AV12 they seem awfuly squishy. They would die to any AT shooting you trow at them and they will be easily dealt in CC with krak grenades.

The only place I can see them work a bit is ZM.

Yes. Remember that in most 30k armies you should have bigger & scarier things for your opponent to worry about - while they're trying to kill your tanks & bigger dreadnoughts the little ones can rip squads apart.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The MK IV (exposed head / pilot) was the standard until during the HH when the MK V (enclosed sarcophagus) was introduced. The MK V's reinforced sarcophagus had wards to protect the pilot from demonic possession / corruption.

They also have access to some quite nasty and rare weapons: Graviton Guns and Flamestorm cannons are both very nasty. Doubly so when used in an Orbital Assault list - three Castraferrums dropped in armed with Flamestorms, close combat weapons and graviton guns or with two CCW's and two Graviton Guns do cause a large amount of havoc. Especially if they've dropped in with a Leviathan or two...

3 boxnoughts w/ fist and flamestorm cannon as DG is one of my favorite units, for obvious reasons

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
