Quick question. Am i right that if you run the first curse, you get BOTH the furious charge special rule (if you join the patriarch to the genestealer brood) AND the strange mutation rule? That looks to be right to me?

Because then it is far more hassle when trying to use them, and people are likely to accuse you of cheating unless you prove for each dice which face the symbol was when it turns up.
Just picking an unusual face makes this interesting, without disrupting things too much.

just the cult symbol on the 1 (and a normal 6)
Thank you for the info.
I do have to admit, that is a little bit disappointing to hear.
Pg 15 of the Oct White Dwarf states the dice will have a skull on the '1' with a Cult Icon symbol on the '6'...but samples weren't available at the time of going to print.
There is either going to be a different set of dice coming or the product design was changed after the WD was put together three months ago.

It's different. Very different. It's a fast, fluid army playstyle that isn't dependant on transports to accomplish this.
It's an assault horde that can actually get to the enemy lines.
It's got neat little psychic tricks and the army has some very obvious weaknesses built in.
A lot of it is simply different from the meta but not bad.
Deathwatch...I wanted to have hope for Deathwatch but the problem is there's only so much you can do with something that has Space Marines as a baseline.

The GSC I'd say is in a really good spot, it has the abilities to be mid tier +, I'd say it could handle it self well against the top tier armies but will require alittle luck and more skill than say Eldar and SM.
It feels like if you play offensively and dont do enough damage by turn 3 you want survive turn 4-5. But if you play defensively and survive enough by turn 3-4 you can pull out a win on objectives.
Just from reading the book there are a few play styles that most people will do, it has nice tools, different tactics, but still seems limited in competitive tier.
EDIT: These are my opinions on just reading the book a couple times, will need to play with it a good amount before knowing completely, there might be little tricks that changes the game, I havent look at allies either, just as a Stand alone book.

I think if you're willing to pay for a horde and can play it in a timely manner this answers the majority of top tier lists quite well. I'd argue based on my reading of the book in the right hands it's going to be devastating.

Depends on how you build it.
GSC are kind of the complete antithesis of Guard and Deathwatch. They have a lot of options to play with, and some of their stuff can be crazy effective against large numbers of targets. Couple that with Cult Ambush's utility(being able to potentially place your Assault units within 3" of an enemy unit, whether they can see you or not, and then being able to charge is a huuuuuuuge thing) and you have a really different army.
GSC are a breath of fresh air, in my opinion.

Smaller point levels most likely will help GSC IMO. with cheap units and tanks you can spam for days.
Honestly I would think higher points be harder for them, when other armies can add things like Knights and multi fliers it would be hard to handle that.

Truthfully, I think higher points will actually be a bit easier than people are expecting.
Sure, flyers are going to be a bit difficult for them with no native AA aside from Flakk Missiles on Rocket Launcher teams(25 points all told in a Neophyte Squad with BS3)...but it's not like they do not have access to fortifications(Aegis or Bastion with Icarus weapons--or even a Firestorm Redoubt) when fielding an Allied CAD.
Knights could be hard; I'm not too sure about that though. The number of demo charges this army can potentially throw around is scary, as is the fact that you can potentially get units of Aberrants with Hammers and Picks coming on 3" and charging into a Knight that same turn with nothing beyond Interceptor being able to protect the Knight is going to give pause to Knights I feel.

I think this army will shine at all points levels. Almost every unit it can bring can do at least some damage to every unit in the game. And it's also all super-mobile (but not in the usual way). There is no obvious best target for your opponent, which will be tough to fight against psychologically. On the other hand, the GS cult player's target priority will generally be clear (anti-infantry units get hit first). So, it's powerful in a low points game. In a high-points game it gets more powerful as the game goes on, as it takes out more and more anti-infantry units.

You must roll a die and what that die is, that will be come the icon side then roll the dice that turn. Why not, a bit more random would be great. Now we can have random on the dice facing. One turn it can be a 5, next turn it can be a 2.

Great minds think alike! When I saw they were doing the Neophytes in multipart with shotguns, my dream of a Naval Kill team was finally realized (as someone who has pretty mediocre greenstuff skills at least).
I think you could also use those guys as a pretty awesome basis for a Necromunda gang (plus they have a Heavy Stubber, Flamer, Webber, and Grenade Launcher in the box with them from the go!).
The models in this release (I haven't seen the book yet) really knocked it out of the park.

Yup. In the medium-term at least I'll be using these guys for Strike Force rather than full-fat 40K, and even just estimating with the rough numbers from this thread(my 'dex doesn't arrive until tomorrow) it's actually quite hilarious how many models you could pack in to what is supposed to be a small skirmish system
