Also there Is the harry potter deck building co op game. Showed at Gencon 2016 and sold out every day, high demand as the demo games were a 2 hour wait!
Maybe it isn't at is highest peak, but I easily see this selling well. I know my Fiancee would get into this no problem

I've never followed JK Rowling - has she got a problem with Social Media or something?
She likes to play canon-police with fic writers etc.
She enjoys searching Twitter for her name or coming across random people through retweets that don't mention her at all, then using the .@ trick to throw anyone she disagrees with out for a digital lynching from her braindead "Potterheads"(who seem incapable of human speech beyond telling people who dislike Jakey/Potter to shut up and endlessly chanting "OMG Queen! Queen, slay!" and the like at everything she says) in the obvious hope that folk she disagrees with(not just fanfic either, you only have to hold a different political opinion and find her in a capricious mood when she stumbles on your tweet) will be driven off the platform and silenced by the combination of abuse and notification overload.
It's a shame that she's such a poisonous person as she's not a terrible author or anything.

The Voldermort promo art suggests it will be during their final year, but it might be cool if younger versions eventually get released.
I would also love to see some of the Dark Forest denizens like centaurs or Aragog's 8-legged offspring make it to miniature form.

On that note, is the book that came out from the play any good? It got a ton of coverage, but I was turned off reading it due to poor reviews. I really enjoyed the series, though, so might give it a try anyway.
Never considered this as a miniatures game, but Knight models has done very well with Batman so it should be interesting!
It was.... interesting. My wife and I read it, and found our reactions to our various favorite characters' fates more entertaining than the book itself. It is a play, but it also does really stick plotholes into everything. Think of it like the Star Trek reboot. Getting it from the library is probably the more prudent choice.

A few years back there were stories of JK Rowling being approached by a few of the larger RPG producing companies to make a game set in the Harry Potter world but she was very much against the idea as she doesn't want people messing with her world, Not sure how true the stories are but around the time I heard stories from a couple of reliable sources.
That's why I was surprised the see a miniature game in development although her tight control of the licence may have weakened over time.

Chances are there will eventually be multiple versions. KM just this week released their ninth Batman...
Tentatively interested in this, there's potential for some great minis (chances are if they're nice sculpts I'll end up with a few choice characters regardless of the game), and there's a lot of ways to take the rules.

Centaurs will made but they will be Tiger Centaurs to preserve exclusive IP. Only Aragog's 6-legged offspring will be available, there will be exclusive 8 legged models but only available on launch day.
That is 100% confirmed.

On a serious note, since all we've seen is a movie still the license might be through Warner rather than Rowling.
For example even though Rowling will not allow other writers touch her universe, when the films came out there was a slew of tie-in books approved by Warner.

Not sure I follow this line of reasoning.
1. A new movie set in the same universe is coming out in a few weeks.
2. A extremely successful play set after the Potter books hit London this year.
3. Bi-coastal theme parks in the United States centered around Potter's universe.
I don't know what "hot' is considered, but it seems like the Harry Potter license is smoldering at least. Locally, because of one of the aforementioned theme parks, I hear Harry Potter commercials regularly on TV and radio. I don't think the setting is as far removed from the general public's minds as people here are making it out to be.
1. A new movie set in a fictional universe in the fictional universe of HP.
2. So successful I (nor anyone I know of) hasn't heard of it?
3. Bi-coastal? Disney? That's not really a theme park. It's more of an exhibit within the theme park.
It's not smoldering on a hearth. More like smoldering in an ember carrier on the hip of subculturists.

It may have had more to do with an RPG needing to fill in all the blank spots on the map of the Wizarding World. Until recently Rowling had really only provided information about wizards in the UK. Other than two school names there is nothing about the rest of Europe and until she started releasing new background with the run up to the movies there was nothing about the North America, South America, Africa, or Asia other than a handful of Quidittch team names. She probably would not have wanted some random RPG company to start messing with her world.
Uh-oh! I'm starting to sound like a HP fanboy!

I mean, I have no interest in the game personally but I find it's pretty obvious that it's spun off from Knight Models relationship with Warner as a result of the success of the Batman Miniatures Game.

Not sure academics and graduation would make for a compelling miniature game. That seems more board-gamey to me, or RPG-related. Are you thinking of something on the level of Kingdom Death where players go through "years" as game events?
The books and movies have quite a bit of violence from wizarding duels to all out warfare, so I think a combat oriented game would work quite well. Plus, the two sides of the magical coin have very different focuses. The good side often incapacitates, binds, or "throws" opponents, while the bad side uses more straightforward lethal magics. I think there could be some neat game mechanics for playing out the various spells, especially ones that don't just zap and kill the target.

Knight have done well with both Marvel and Batman at making games about more than just punching and shooting- you can have Batman beat the snot out of the Joker's crew and leave KOed guys all over the board, but if they've been racking up Victory Points while you've got distracted dishing out beatings then unless you can take them all out (very difficult in the 6-8 turns you have) then you're not winning that game. I think that same approach will work with HP, I imagine it'll be as much about grabbing magical artefacts or protecting certain characters rather than just zapping everyone to bits.

I could 1000% get my daughter into this, perhaps even my wife. I loved reading all the books, and it was fun to see the movies with my wife. There's nothing quite like bonding with your child by reading with them, and my oldest and I have read the entire book series at the end watching each movie.
So yeah, anything with gaming and family time is a win in my book.

I really doubt the spells will have players doing funny songs and dances or speaking in odd voices to achieve game effects. But there are a fair few in this thread who seem hell bent on not talking about this game and just making fun of it, so there you go.
I think an interesting discussion could be had which seriously focused on hypothesizing game mechanics which could be used to incorporate the plethora of non-lethal spells demonstrated in the books and on screen in the movies. Certainly those spells could be used to create gaming opportunities that go beyond simply attacking and killing the other side's wizards, but you know, where are the lulz in a discussion like that?
Bring on more of the "Herp derp Harry Potter is for gurls, Rowling is a SJW beast, and this game is 10 years too late" arguments.

Like kingdom death would be cool, but it could be simple like needing ingredients from a potion while being harassed by draco and his bullies, or competition with other houses, doesn't have to be all be fights against the Death eaters.

I think here they ought to take a leaf from the Marvel rules. In that, everyone has unique abilities and often, they do only minor damage or no damage at all, but come with various special effects like throwing or pinning a target, hitting everyone along a straight line, ricocheting round corners ect. Something like that, where every attack has some kind of special effect attached, would work, and instead of having certain attacks for certain characters, there are general classes of spell that anyone proficient in that class can use. Maybe have it levelled so a Year One student isn't throwing around the same calibre of spells as Dumbledore or Snape, for example.
