Subject: Re:Dark Eldar, Deathwatch, Space Wolves, oh my!
Hey all! Sorry for the complete lack of updates recently. I have gone through quite the hobby slump. Hopefully this blog hasn't been lost to the warp quite yet.
I have been going through quite a dry phase when it comes to hobbying. I think that has something to do with the armies I am currently painting. I have had very little inspiration to paint any space wolves, simply as after what happened in Warzone Fenris, then having the great company I play completely wiped out in Fall of Cadia kinda made me lose a bit of inspiration to keep going and forge a narrative for them.
I haven't painted any Dark Eldar as I really don't like the scheme I've gone with for them. I find the light bone colour to be very unenjoyable to paint, and have actually been considering schemes that use white as a primary colour (funnily enough, white is by far my favorite colour to paint), maybe purple, then some white accents. Other way around? I am not set on a scheme, so I'd appreciate all input.
And sadly, a severe lack of funds has put the Daemons on backburner, personally, I find doing slow grow armies very very difficult, usually I can't immerse myself in the play which really hurts my excitement for the army.
Thankfully I am playing a good bit with my Dark Eldar (and winning a good bit too
I also had a crazy idea for an archon conversion, I was thinking scourge based, so like scourge legs and some scourge wings with a baller cape and a sword, I have a good idea of how to do the base of the body, but any ideas for the cape? Specifically plastic GW bitz as I don't like 3rd part retailers.
I hear ya man, I just got out of my hobby slump and am getting back into the swing of things now. Most important is that you gotta love what you're painting so if the bone scheme doesn't work for you any more then change it up. Do some test models with colours you're excited to paint, see if that can get you bac into being excited to paint.
Best of luck dude and I hope to see some updates soon.

Thanks man I appreciate it.
I have Kharn the Bloody sitting on my desk. My brother is commissioning me to paint him so I'll make a few dollars and I can enter him in battle of brush at my FLGS.
I am not currently at home, actually on vacation for Martin Luther King day, but once I get back expect an update or two on Kharn!
I start with a base of Celestra gray, and an all over few /very/ thin layers of ulthuan grey, pin wash the recesses to taste with nuln oil (you can change this out, for example, washing the recesses with a blue wash, and then putting a tiny bit of black into each one. The intensity of how much wash you put can change too, but I like a very little wash), and an edge highlight of white.
Any other cloak bits? the skin cloak has a bit of movement, but I am looking for more of a flying feel.
I'll have a think about dynamic capes/cloaks. Which Scourge legs are you thinking? There are 4 that look like they're descending and one that's leaping forwards, which would change how the cape would behave...
My ancient "lab"
Just did a full catch-up on this blog, and I love everything i'm seein' here! It's nice to see a DE player, cause I only know one dude with any, they're a rather underrated army. The color scheme is phenomenal too, and excellent contrast!
If you're weary of bone and like white, perhaps you should give the white a yellow or tan wash for a slightly tan look, to kinda maintain coherency between your old models and new ones.
But it comes with deep regret that I must say a complete purging of your WB has been asked of me, damn heretics!(For real, cool stuff. Like the sorcerer especially)
Glad I could be of assistance! Was flicking through a Harlequin plog on the Dark City, saw the back of the Death Jester painted in purple and the words 'pimp coat' flashed up
Hey guys, I think I found a scheme for my deldar, Theres still some paints drying on this guy, and I ran out of a few colors (or straight up lost them) so her skin and barbed crown isn't done, but it will be!
The Kabal will be called The Stellar Parallax (or Kabal of the Stellar Parallax, but I think the former makes more sense). The name doesn't specifically mean anything related to the Kabal, but it sure does sound cool. (nothing related to cosmic photography traits here )
I wanted to do some freehand on his banner, but I couldn't find anything kinda arabicy, as I like the idea of arabic/muslim pirate theme, and the attempts I had where multiple tries of painting Pain in arabic but that did not work out at all.
Thankfully the scheme is pretty easy to paint, and looks quite striking, It'd look pretty good on vehicles too I assume.
Any CC is greatly appreciated, does it compare to the other scheme. Did I miss the mark entirely? is it terrible?
Thank god for the Iphone7's camera, I quite like these photos.

Wow, I really love painting this scheme. Sorry for the double post, but I painted three Kabalite Warriors, so I thought I'd throw them up to compensate for my pathetic lack of posting recently. They still need the fleshy/boney bits painted, but I'm gonna grab some fresh paint tomorrow so that should be done soon enough.
Hopefully this scheme looks good to you guys, otherwise these poor fools are gonna have to be added to the to-be-simple-green'd pile.

Thanks man, its a pretty easy scheme (just 4 highlights on black and some blue), and its quite quick. I think I'm gonna paint the loincloths a white, as I wanna break up the monochromanc-ey
If you want to add a bit of distinction to the black of the undersuit nice and lazily then a Nuln Oil wash gives black a nice subtle satin sheen to it.
Won't really shade it at all, but does make it look like some sort of future-latex stuff which is fitting for BDSM space elves

I tried some ard coat on the black, and I didn't really like it, it made it look a lot more wet as opposed to sheen-ey. I forgot to picture it, but it's not really my style... good suggestion though!
I bought a pot of Rakarth Flesh today, along with astrogranite debris, so I'll get a basing scheme in production sometime, just not tonight as I am exhausted
I painted the skin and finished two additional Kabalite warriors.
After knocking out this many models in a few days, I am really grateful for the liberties I've taken in modeling the kabalite warriors. Normally, it'd feel so monotonous and such a chore to paint all these buggers in such a short period of time after such a long break, but the interesting poses and personalities that the Dark Eldar range allows is absolutely amazing. The warrior with the giant spear that I imagine being plunged into an unfortunate tau on the ground, and that somewhat strange pose required no chopping or clipping, just two parts from the raider sprue and a kabalite warrior body. It gets me very excited for the eventual archon I plan on building (once I get some money).
I also thought up some lore for my Kabal. (spoiled for size)
Spoiler:
The Stellar Parallax
The Stellar Parallax resides in the lower parts of Commoragh, in the slums if you will. Constantly bombarded by hellion raids and territorial disputes with other Kabals.
They have a strong allegiance with the Black Apastron Wych cult (another random cool sounding space word, except this time related to binary star systems ). Succubus Bellatrix has an intimate relationship with Archon Azimuth.
The Stellar Parallax are dictated by a council of three archons.
Archon Aximuth - he is romantically engaged with Bellatrix, the most powerful archon of the triplets, he is also probably the smartest and most sane. Although arrogant, he makes sure each move he makes, each order is perfectly, and methodically planned out. Not to biggest fan of hand to hand combat, as that puts him at a larger risk of injury, he prefers to survey the battlefield in his own personal craft (He is the archon I will build with a blaster, and use him if I have an archon blaster in my list.)
Archon Cepheid - Probably the maddest of all the archons, he is most often seen on the battlefield, amongst his incubi, ready to induce enough pain to satisfy Commoragh. He is absolutely mad, when the Kabal sees him on the battlefield, they know that their punishment is incredibly harsh if they mess up. As he denies the existence of She Who Thirsts, he is completely willing to execute troops on the spot, and refuse regeneration for them, damming their soul for eternity.
Archon Tektite Zenith /b] - The lowest ranking of the trio, this archon is a very interesting denizen of Commoragh. When he sees battle, he is souring high over even the razorwing jetfighters of the Kabal. His grafted on scourge wings allow him great mobility, and set him apart from his kabal. His Avian features generally terrify the entire battlefield, as the Stellar Parallax make very little use of the Scourge, he is an anomaly. (the archon I will use most often depending on how the conversion turns out, hopefully great!)
They look kickass man love the fluff too, especially about the triplet of Archons. Can't wait to see those converted up
I thought 'Ard Coat might be a little too glossy. Try Nuln Oil (which is great for shading things anyway, so it's got other uses). It's less of a full gloss, much more of a satin
Even without it they look great though nice definition on the skin as well
That's some nice fluff! I may steal the triplets idea for my custom Wych Cult if you don't mind (primarily a cult army with limited Kablite/Coven support)

I like the scheme, but the black is blending into the base. What are your basing plans? I think a light/neutral base would help set off the dark armor nicely.
I’m not normally a basing snob, but your guys really need something besides black disks to stand on to reach their full potential.
War Kitten-
The triple archon idea is taken from the Kabal of the Black Heart and the Cult of Strife, as GW put multiple archons/sucubi so you could use a normal archon/sucubi in place of Vect or Lelith. So feel free to take it!
Nevelon- I do have basing planned, once I get home I will do a test base. The idea is a warm ish urban/asphalt base. So a light grey with some brown tones. I have the two grey basing paints so I'll experiment a bit. I didn't test the bases last evening as I was too exhausted to keep painting
And thanks for keepin up with my blog everyone. It means a lot!
