Hey dakka, what is your opinion on the new battleforces?

Not sure if the pictures have circulated yet, so I'll put them up, however, OT, I am personally vert excited.

What about you guys? Will you be picking them up? If there isn't one for your army, what do you hope they include?

If they are one of those limited deals only over the holidays I wont pick it up.. If they stick arround, I'l probably pick up the Space Wolf one.

I'm certainly considering the Deathwatch one, given how rare it is that I see one of these battleforces where I actually care about all the contents.

Don't need anything out of the Tau one, I'll eat my own liver before I start a spess woof army, the Admech is spoilt somewhat with the inclusion of the electropriests instead of the other box of rustalkers so it could've been basically half a war convo and I think non-ork, non jetbike bikes are easily the stupidest unit in all of 40k, so a decent chunk of deathwatch is useless to me too.

Overall they're OK'ish value at first glance I think, but IMHO the start collecting boxes have been better value.I imagine their popularity will also be heavily dependant on what the formations they come with are like. If the SW flier comes on first turn and they can assault out of it even if it moves flat out, then you'll be seeing a large amount of SW armies suddenly get dusted off, but the larger number of units involved inherently means that there will be something in each box that people really don't want or won't use outside the formation and that means worse value, so I don't see these being as popular as the SC! boxes, but I suspect that they'll still move quite well.

Good to see the battleforces return though, hopefully one gets rolled out for all armies eventually, along with a Start Collecting! box for each too.

I want the Deathwatch one, but I'm trying to be good right now as I have so many models in need of paint.

What's the price of them? The Tau one is something i'd be interested in but it really depends on the price.

I heard they were gonna be around the $200 mark, but that seems a bit high because the savings aren't insane (that's just the Deathwach one though, not sure about the others)

That seems like too much for it. The Tau one adds up to a bit less than £165 unless i missed something, so even if it was closer to £150 (About $185) there wouldn't be a very good saving.

I don't need anything in the tau box aside from the ghostkeal and maaaybe the devilfish? Frankly I'm not interested in the suits pathfinders or broadside.

feth space furries, never playing wolf wolfs.

I'm rather on the fence about skitarrii and as mech, I'd consider starting them.

I'd only buy the death watch so I could convert it's units into grey Knights and normal marines.

I thought the price was double what the "start collecting" series boxes are. So $200 Canadian. I don't think GW verified or even said what the prices are yet. As for me getting any of them, non of them are my army, so I won't be getting them.

BOLS is claiming $170 US, which is about $100 off the contents for most of them.

So do I. Since I don't see one coming on the horizon, I bought another box of Overkill since I wanted my discount while I could get it now.

This. I've seen the price list for Aus, they're $280 AUD which is double the start collecting boxes.

Priests are part of the War Convo.
2 boxes of these and 1 Start Collecting give you all the models of the War Convocation except the Knight.

When GW starts actually giving out great or fair deals for the minis they are releasing. I know a lot of my purchases were only "start colleting boxes" because paying $75 Canadian for 3 minis is just asinine.

You only need two troops and an HQ for the Cult Mechanicus (wasting Priests and Kastellans if going for the minimum). The WC Formation is already pretty pricey (points wise) without including the free upgrades, so to me it seems to be a waste of points. It's also a random box if you are not building a WC, and an expensive purchase for a single Formation... Otherwise it would not be a legal list on its' own.

This kit would work better with the Start Collecting Skitarii Box if it included another set of Rustalkers/Infiltrators since you need one of each Skitarii unit to make a WC. As it stands I see no use for this box (I'm only missing one more Cult Troop, a Dragoon and a Knight for my WC), and my opinion wouldn't change if I had only purchased the SC Box.

I'm hearing £100 which to be fair is pretty good. The Mechanicus one has pretty much everything on my 'to buy' list for them, so if it's £100 then I'll be getting one!

For Kiwi's (and probably Aussies too) it's still cheaper to start collecting resin 30k. At the rate it's going it will soon be cheaper to fly to the UK to buy our miniatures.

edit: thinking about it I realised that we're already there for that last part. The savings I made getting around GW's moronic pricing by sourcing my IG from the UK would have easily covered a return flight to London.

100 GBP? That's only 125 US dollars or so. If that's true, I'm so getting the Deathwatch one! Might even pick up the Tau one since I can use a few more of the included units.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I might pick up the Admech one alongside an AdMech Start Collecting set.

I own no Ad-Mech models whatsoever and missed the initial deals, so this seems like a good round two to collect some.
