I know that a lot of the Terran born marines of the traitor chapters were executed in the Istvaan system and that others escaped to warn the Emperor but how many Terran marines sided with Horus? Are any of those Terran born marines still alive today as Chaos Warlords, pirates, renegades, etc.?
(The Thousand Sons Terran borns do not count as the TS never sided with Horus)

Pure speculation on my part but probably not that many. Terran born marines knew the Emperor longer than their primarchs and thus tended to be more loyal. But there are still likely many examples of Terran born marines serving the traitor legions up until the 'present' date.

There was a wedge between the Terran Raven Guard (the Pale Nomads), whom seemed much more inclined to Horus. Most of them got wiped out prior to the Heresy, when they were ordered to take Gate 424 or something.
There was a difference between Terran and Calibanite Dark Angels too. Merir Astelan certainly didn't seem to like the Lion.
I doubt there's ever gonna be a percentage, but it stands to reason the Terrans were less pro-Horus.

Nope, they were recruited from many different worlds.

Correct. And interestingly, there was no obvious pattern or rationale as to whom Angron sent down to Istvaan III.

Chaos has some pretty colourful characters that were space marines before their primarch was rediscovered. Ahriman, Fabulous, and Typhus comes to mind. I could be wrong.

Most primarchs did not have a good relationship with their Terran marines. As a consequence, many Terran marines sided against their primarch in the Heresy. Ergo, Terrans from traitor legions tended towards the loyalist side, while Terrans from loyalist legions tended towards the traitor side.
Lots of exceptions of course, but this does seem to be the general trend.
Also, the Thousand Sons did side with Horus after the Burning of Prospero. They even fought alongside him in the final assault on Terra.

I can only remember Corax and the Lion having problems with his Terran Marines (among the loyalists). If you have source, I'd be happy to see them.

Pert didn't exactly get off to the best start with his legion, and while reading my way through Angel Exterminatus no one seems eager to bring that up or mention Terran heritage. I would assume either the Terran's in the IW's are just not bringing that point up, or that they have all been grinded away y the Heresy.

Night Lords were renegades, the Legio did not fracture in loyalist and traitors, because they were criminals both and they had the same nature and origin, the terrans and nostramans. Indeed, the legio was not fully aligned with Horus, acting as warbands after the Thramas crusade. Some of them went to assault Terra, but another big portion of the legio was fighting their own war.
At the end, they were traitors, but not the pawns of chaos. They were not fighting for Horus, they were fighting for justice, for fear and for murder, because that was their nature.

Yea, they were definitely there at Terra. Also confirmed in Talon of Horus, as the main character harbors a grudge from back then (he's a Thousand Sons sorcerer).
Also, Ashur-Kai, another character from Talon of Horus (also a Thousand Sons sorcerer) is Terran.
( Talon of Horus takes place after the Heresy and is about the founding of the Black Legion, so all characters survive at least long enough to turn into CSMs and for several centuries after the Heresy).

They don't exactly fight for Horus but that doesn't mean they didn't side with him or that they weren't part of the same cause. They were present at Isstvan, including the meeting with the other legions before the massacre (see The First Heretic), and the whole reason the Thramas Crusade even took place was because Horus wanted them to be there (made clear in Prince of Crows). It's only after Sevatar breaks up the legion that they split off to fight their own wars (even then he intends to take the bulk of the legion to join Horus at Terra).
Anyway, in Prince of Crows Var Jahan (a member Kyroptera) mentions that "half the legion is Terran." So at least with the Night Lords a significant portion of Terrans sided with Horus.

And the Angels of Darkness descended on pinions of fire and light... the great and terrible dark angels.
He was not the golden lord. The Emperor will carry us to the stars, but never beyond them. My dreams will be lies, if a golden lord does not rise.
I look to the stars now, with the old scrolls burning runes across my memory. And I see my own hands as I write these words. Erebus and Kor Phaeron speak the truth.
My hands. They, too, are golden. |
