Is that the codex? A few pages, almost as if it's a pamphlet? Is this the new way of making codices perhaps? This is the paper version, and we can download the datascrolls off GW site like AoS? Guess time will tell.

I was looking at the pictures of the rhino / land raider thinking that they look just a bit WRONG painted in the gold scheme. Then I realised it's the large flat panels that just don't fit, especially in comparison to the custodies themselves. Some forge world door kits would go a long way to help these blend together as an army. Maybe some bits from the Warhammer world only kit?

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it. |

I think shoehorning the Rhino, Land Raider and the crappy contemptor into this release didn't really work.
I felt they could have made up some fluff about the Imperial Fists guarding Terra, how a select few were chosen (perhaps from beyond the chapter out of Black Templars, Crimson Fists etc) to don ancient armour to defend the ground of holy Terra itself, and occasionally beyond to bolster the forces of the Custodes.

Yeah if you assume land raiders or dreadnoughts are worth anywhere near retail (which they aren't). They've been on the market for a very very long time and are underwhelming in the game for 3-4 editions. Secondary market destroys their relative "worth" due to massive supply.
At best this box's worth is equal to the Custodes/Sisters and maybe not even in that given the lack of options + support the Custodes have in 40k.

Blech...rather have the rhino and contemptor. The cataphractii captain is so good every space marine player shoukd already have 2 and the cataphractii terminators are so bad that plenty of them are still on sprue from when people bought the first print of calth. The contemptors solid, rhinos are consistently good, SoS are awesome, Custodes are neat and good enough for semi-competitive games, and land raiders make sense with custodes. Sorry they didn't come out with brand new plastics for this one discounted box set.

That doesn't excuse deciding you're going to write a Custodes book and then taking a couple of 10+-year-old vehicle kits that are already used in seven Codexes (eight, with a minor upgrade frame) and then spraying them gold instead of giving them something new/interesting.
I expect GW are half-assing this aspect of the release because they know FW can step up with 40K rules for their Custodes grav vehicles. Still, it would have been nice to see them chuck an extra sprue into the Rhino kit to make an Emperor's Gift grav-Rhino or something. Note: I'm not complaining they have access to the generic LR and Rhino, I think that's great, these supposedly- STC-so-almost-everyone-uses-them vehicle patterns should be available to most Imperial armies.
angelofvengeance wrote: Melissia wrote:That's... unfortunate. I wish they'd keep 30k out of my 40k, as I feel the latter's lore is vastly superior.
Well there's clearly demand for Custodes in either setting, so it's worth GW's time and resources.
There was sufficient demand for Dominos to sell pizzas with Cadbury's Chocolate Buttons as a topping(as in, on top of a regular cheese/tomato sauce pizza), that doesn't make chocolate pizzas a good idea. Remember pollsters have long known you can get ~5% of any given sample to agree with almost anything

I began wondering about this myself. On one hand I REALLY would prefer the ability of the Crusader to care 8 guys in it instead of the standard Raider's 5. The added boost to anti-horde duty is nice too. On the other hand, Custodes have almost NO anti vehicle weaponry. A Standard Raider with a Multi-melta and HK missile could be needed, regardless of the transport capacity, simply to deal with heavier vehicles. Anything over 12 and Custodes are hosed (barring some kind of warlord trait or special Wargear).
Also, do you think Custodes will be limited to just Multimelta and Assault cannon on the Contemptor? Currently the rules in Angels of death limit them to just those. I'd prefer to see more weapons options. A multimelta could work, if the dreadnought would be given deepstrike to fit in with the other Custodes.
Keeping my fingers crossed that FW makes some of its stuff 40k Custodes compatible.

Codex: Pamphletstodes will contain rules for exactly what is on the sprues in the box, just as GS Cult inexplicably only allows half the Leman Russ variants based on what sprues were packed in the kit. No reason you couldn't house rule based on SM codex points, but this is my guess.

I was wondering, for Age of Sigmar they have done a couple "upgrade packs" for Stormcast Eternals. If they are intent on making Custodes a stand-alone faction, possibly with a codex later on, a single upgrade spru in a blister pack would help out immensely. All we'd need is some character parts and a wargear/weapon option or two and we'd be set.
A single blister-pack sized spru could contain a different style helmet, a couple new shoulder pads, a new funky sword, a rifle arm, and some other weapon (lightning claw?). It would make doing characters a possibility.

I agree- something emphasized with the Custodians is that they are all individuals, and ever suit of armor os supposed to be unique in its artwork to reflect that.
A blister pack brimming with shoulder pads and helmets would help a ton. Automatically Appended Next Post: Kid_Kyoto wrote: AnomanderRake wrote:What the *bleep*, GW? You could have given us plastic jetbikes or plastic grav-tanks, but instead we get a ten-year-old Land Raider kit painted gold?

The pre-orders are up on the NZ website. They are not cheap. Sisters of Silence are really damned expensive for 5 tiny models. The Land Raider is considered the finest land-borne transport in the Adeptus Terra, and those of the Custodian Guard are the most venerated of all. The tank’s adamantium hide, massively thick and layered with ceramite reinforcement, has such incredible resilience that it can drive through a barrage of artillery fire without slowing. When the metal-toothed jaws at the front yawn wide, the Custodian Guard within charge out to smash the enemy lines into disarray. The Venerable Land Raider is armed with twin-linked lascannon sponsons, which can be modelled to the front or rear of the vehicle, and features a twin-linked heavy bolter. All of these weapons can be either glued into place or slotted in enabling them to be rotated towards their intended targets during your games. No no Crusader/Redeemer parts there. Description Crunching the corpses of the Emperor’s foes under its tracks as it grinds to the front line, the Rhino is far more than a simple personnel carrier. Those vehicles driven to war by the Silent Sisterhood have served faithfully in Terra’s defence for hundreds, if not thousands of years. The machine spirits of these tanks are as dauntless as any in the Imperium’s service, rarely resting in their pursuit of the Sisterhood’s psychic prey. This boxed set contains 1 multi-part plastic Null-Maiden Rhino. Also included are options to include smoke launchers, a pintle-mounted storm bolter, missile launcher, radar dish and a variety of top hatches that can be modelled as either open or closed, as well as the option to include a Space Marine Techmarine in one of the hatches. The rear door of the vehicle can either be glued shut or left open to show off the interior detail of the kit such as the deck plating and communications display that includes a stowed boltgun. The combined box is just under 40% off for Kiwi's.
