Sure, but they ignore the first failed roll. And with BS 4 they'll likely do some damage before going out of ammo.

Oh for sure... but its still a cool and fluffy way of depicting their weapons. Details and thoughtfulness of design like that always impresses me.

Does anyone recall how the old scummer rules worked? I remember needing to "pay" them 15 credits after every game, but they had an up-front cost too, right? I don't see initial costs for the "Special Operatives".

The initial costs for new hired guns were the same as the costs for keeping them.

Maybe you'll get the Special Operatives for ... erm... special operations (missions) or for free against more experienced opponents (like the old special characters)? Or you'll get access to them during the campaign?

In my Underhive book hired hands have a hiring fee listed at each entry. I very much think that the Armageddon characters are used under slightly different circumstances.

Why did they waste space in White Dwarf with rules for Genestealer Cults and Skitari if they are just going to put them on the website next week anyway?

As a preview? A teaser? To help convince those still unsure?

It's not a preview or teaser, though. The rules will be available for download before the White Dwarf is even released.

Can anyone remind me what's the point of the juves (or equivalents)? IIRC, in Necromunda they had different equipment options than normal gangers, but this is not the case with these lists, so are they just slightly cheaper, suckier, basic gangers?

Well that's too bad my pics got removed, I can understand why though. Please don't PM me anymore asking for the pics though guys, buy a WD or wait for the download to be available I guess.

@BrookM

Thanks for the summary. Any mention of a separate rulebook in there?

Thanks again!

Rulebook will for the coming period only be available in the boxed set. This is confirmed in the store briefing I posted earlier today.

You know what would be nice? Upgrades that aren't in the box, just for Shadow War. I want Skitarii Alphas with Transonic Razors, or combat specialist Skitarii with jetpacks, or an Enginseer with an Arc Pistol, dammit.

I know that it isn't possible because Model Company(tm), but I can dream.

To be fair... Necromunda's main gangs, as I recall, had models that could depict Gangers/Juves with any of the main weapons they could feasibly end up with (sure, there wasn't WYSIWYG war-gear like grappling hooks, etc...)

I think in Necromunda wysiwyg matters quite a bit, so sticking to what sprues allow is a pretty fair concession.

Juves were -1 WS, -1 BS, -1 LD. The point was they'd quickly gain levels and you could end up with something more specialised than the more rounded starter ganger.

They'd also get an extra advance, 4 of them by the time they were ganger XP.

They were also used as shields for your better guys, they only cost 25 credits to replace, rather than the 50 of a normal ganger

Not seen it mentioned but the preview page has "a time to celebrate" and "new rules" listed for the May issue, could be something, might be nothing.

This could be changed, to make Shadow War a more flexible ruleset, and see more interesting models on the board.

Even Necromunda had limited weapon options for specific gangs based on what the models were equipped with. Yes, you can get other wargear, but that was through the rare trade chart. It's quite possible there is some equivalent to that in Shadow War. If not, just house rule it with your group. This is the kind of game that really requires a regular gaming group to run a successful campaign, so just make sure everyone agrees to those changes and you should be good.

Also, anyone looking for the WD pics, just google "miniwars."

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

I'd assume so, seems a little short notice for 8th ed. Then again without a new edition my wallet and many others, seems to be shut due to all the uncertainty over what might happen.

I'm so confused why the GS Cult Heavy is 10 pts!

From the battle report it seems all the Necromunda rules are there, including ammo rolls, advances, etc. They're using the later D3 for sustained fire instead of the 2nd Ed dedicated Sustained Fire dice, but there's an old school Artillery Die in the box!

If you've never played Necromunda and need the 40K models as the push over the edge, I'd say get involved. Else the rules for Necromunda are free over at a YakTribe anyway if you want The One True Necromunda. :-)

The weapons for the heavy are quite expensive, maybe that's why?

Though no doubt people will exploit this by taking heavies with minimal equipment to bulk their team out.

Eh. Heavies were always 60pts plus weapons at the same costs I can see in the WD article. Weird - maybe it is some attempt to balance something. Not sure what.
