So - We have seen the "NuMarines" - Do people think they will be a new type of Marine (cooked up by Cawl and Guilliman) or just a new mark of armour/rescale of existing Marines?

I am leaning towards just new models, interested to hear what the general opinion is...

Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen

New mark of Power Armour.

With no discernible in-game difference to mk4 or mk7.

Good poll
Definitely new mark, with leg options to make them smaller in line with previous line of space marines.

We already have SMs then Terminators, then Centurions etc etc, we don't need more Space Marines of various sizes.

New model, no new rules. I don't really get it to be honest, well aside from making money of course.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

My vote is that they'll be a new unit, rather than a new faction, with "Mk9" armor, that counts as Artificer or similar (2+ save, or maybe 3+/reroll 1s). They'll be an experimental new set of implants/upgrades/etc, but they won't be a whole new faction and they certainly won't be replacing SM overall.

I think it'll be the same marines as always, they'll just look better! Very happy with that. And just like the change from small base to "not so small" base with Marines, your old models will still be completely legal.

My guess is it will be a special kind of marine for now, but if it proves a good seller, it will become the the new scale for space marines.

I don't like it as the models are already bigger than I like for the scope of the game, and I play smaller games of only about 20-30 space marines per side with a couple of vehicles. I would have much rather GW scale down regular human models which I think would go over much better as many of them could use a new model. Plus, I think they would mix better with the older models as I imagine their is far more variation of height among normal humans than their is among space marines.

I think it's just scale creep. They're still on the same 32mm if I remember so it looks like they're just suppose to be the same marines, just taller.

Sure, but the scale has outpaced the lore around space marines. They're supposed to be pretty huge, but if you put a marine next to a Skitarii, the Skitarii is taller. And they're supposed to be just normal people with their legs hacked off and replaced with equivalent metal legs.

Marines look like Marines. Tin cans, which have a bad look. This is why I prefer Xenos.

A new faction to take alongside the usual marines and other imperials.

Is that a wishlist? Because they are already confirmed as different units for SM, an elite space marine.

Wasn't the video pretty explicit in stating they were new marines, based on different (older), better tech?

At the very least, it heavily implied they were Marines+, so I'm going with entirely new models and rules, which can be used alongside other imperial factions as my bet.

Pretty much, if GW comes out and says Nu-marines, its gonna be kinda cringy, if they just say, oh we are making thunderwarriors again, alright thats fine.

To many unpainted models to count.

Yeah, I'd be more shocked if they weren't some kind of new super marines. Roboute declared the Indomitus (sp?) Crusade, so, knowing GW, might have the creativity to call them the Indomitables or something.

I'm pleasantly surprised by a few of the previews so far, and the knowledge that the tournament community was used in no small way to help with the matched play rules, but this marine thing is putting a bit of a damper on it. I found the game to be too marine-centric as it was, so I'm not thrilled about a super marine faction.

Time will tell. Maybe GW will execute it flawlessly and the fluff will actually be decent. Stranger things have happened.

I hate to break it to you Blacksails, but im thinking 40k is also going to get the sigmarine treatment. Pretty much the only factions you see any attention toward will be IoM (Space marines) and chaos (CSM) and they might throw the other races a bone every 3 months or so. Just like AoS were all you see is order and chaos, oh and there are 2 other alliances but GW just hand waves them away.

Oh I know. I've already mentally prepared myself for it. I don't buy much GW models, just a few of the cooler, iconic Guard characters, so model support doesn't matter much to me. The rules support for the other factions is where I'm concerned, and I'd also agree with you that the big two power armour factions will get the majority of the rules support as well. At this point, if the Guard and other factions I enjoy like Orks get functional and reasonable balanced matched play rules, I'll be satisfied.

That said, I'll wait and see on this new marine faction. They might very well pull it off and might not be a total fluff tragedy.

Its really shaping up to be a fluff tragedy IMO. I mean, Girly man is doing genetic modifications to space marines, that thing the emperor was really against, like, ALOT. Even if they are just rehashed thunder warriors, there is a reason that the emperor had them all killed off.

I'm hoping the outcome results in consolidated Space Marine books. Fluff wise they could show the majority of loyalist forces were wiped out when the Planet of Sorcerers left the warp. The Plague Planet could do the same. All remaining loyalist forces consolidate their fleets for a giant push on some planet that has the same outcome as Istvaan V did.

This way all the old marines are effectively wiped out but players can still use their old models because of the likelihood some stragglers survived. The new marines can then be used to push the forces of chaos back into the warp and are divided into the chapters again. But this results in a lot of their traditions and unique tactics being lost. Thus why we only need a single Space Marine book moving forward.

Truth be told to, i would not really care if lore wise they say they gave space marines more spacemariney, i just dont want new fething scale models. Because i dont wanna have to pay AoS prices for 10 fething guys.

I mean liberators are 62 USD for 10, i dont wanna pay that for 10 tac marines.

I'm pretty sure in a Q&A on Facebook, GW said that the starter set will be released with two new factions (or hinted, or it was a rumour? Maybe someone can link what I'm talking about here), I'm going to say that Death Guard are going to be their own faction, like the Thousand Sons, and the NuMarines will also be their own faction. That's just what I think anyway

They're $100AU :/ my wallet bleeds pretty bad. That said, they're glorious figures, so if the NuMarines are as top notch, I'd be (sadly) willing to continue wounding my poor wallet

Eh IMO, AoS is suffering from an over designed model problem. Like the new models are cool and all, but they are WAY over designed, great to paint as a single model, but if your painting a large army, they are awful to paint and assemble.

Already confirmed as new type of marine. Not about opinions at this point.

Until they're banned from play, I'll be using my old marines... but i'm hoping I can use the NuMarines within the chapters, not as a separate faction
