Thams Meer_Cat , I just have too be more attentive to where it might be pooling as close inspection finds puddles .

Camkierhi wrote:Well that was a really nice catch up, you have some lovely work here bud. The models are very interesting, and you have done well with the colour schemes.

I would bet that like Red said, they have suspended a floating iridescent spec-ally stuff in a heavy varnish for the paint, though TBH due to the amount you use, best to just go with GW's. I know their gear can sometimes seem expensive, but a pot would last you a long time, unless you paint whole suits of armour in it. Not like the crackly base paint stuff, waste of money that one, but this is simply not worth the effort of fiddling about.

And I totally feel you on the meds front, going through similar, please remember you are an amazing guy, and a damn sight stronger than you think. Chin up mucker.

Thanks Cam , it’s been a rough year for both of us. Looking forward to brighter times and plugging along where we can. Loving the mega gargant model by the way.

Well I hope I can get some subtle shading in on the green and really make this pop, see below.

So got home from work last night and was wired so got some painting done. Not much, but here is where I think the green will go.

I think the gun arm needs a little something, especially on the “fins”, but I don’t want to go gunmetal with it. Any suggestions?

I like it with the green. What about a glowy blue or purple for the weapon. Make it all.plasma like?

And thanks for the inspiration. I just got about 15 of the buggers in the sale. How can you say no to £1 each?!

I was also thinking purple might work. Or perhaps a heat stained metal if you want to avoid basic gunmetal? A red-purple-blue patina might look good against the rest.

And yes, also thanks for the tip-off, several three-legged thingies are currently in development

I’m trying to stay away from using metal on weapons as this is far in the future and I’m sure ceramics and plastics have taken the place of metals. There are metals being used on the models, but just trying to limit them.

Pointer5 wrote:I think the model looks great as is.

Thanks Pointer5, I appreciate that.

Well I didn’t want to go green initially, but was leery of adding in another color.

I need to touch up the balls on the fins, not sure where I’ll go with it, but got first coating on the bombers.

Hey man, love the black/green Ghar. I picked up a set of the Ghar Battlesuits at NOVA this past weekend and assembled them that night. Finished painting and basing one earlier today, big fan of the models. Ordered the rulebook online this morning and am definitely going to nab a few more sets once I'm able to flip through the book and get a better feel of the setting and factions.

Have you been able to get any games in yet? Big fan of your thread and models done thus far, keep up the good work.

Sorry for the late response and delay in updates guys. Car issues, but got a newer used car 2014 Chevy Impala (I feel like the guys from supernatural now ) so the Volvo I had will shortly be donated to any cause that wishes to pick it up for scrap.

@weasel_beef I love the handle . I have only gotten in games with my son, but hope to rectify that soon. The Ghar are probably the most original of the BtGoA armies and well designed, though I wish the suits were 2-3x as large as they are. I think it would just feel as nasty as they are supposed to be if it were bigger. They just released all new online army lists for all the factions on the Warlord webstore. They are version 3 and have updates from all the books except the dronescourge on it. Totally free to download, so check it out .

In the mean time I assembled 11 more battlesuits and have just now painted them up to the base armor color level (black primer, two drybrushings of different greys and then the was of coreilia greenshade).

The color of these are a little lighter than the bombers as my second drybrush layer (stormvermin fur) was heavier than I should have done it . Getting ready for work, so that should be it for today, unless the mail lady drops off my other Warlord order which took 2weeks to process and start the shipping on. Can’t really blame them as that sale was insane.

The Ghar are beginning to look a bit more cohesive. The bombers stick out a little due to their darker shells, but not terribly bad. Still have to do the leg stripes on the battlesuits, but I’ll save that tediousness for another time.

Only two cars Vik, but they were both major problems in the end. The Impala is a great car, lots of room and get up and go .

Thanks Fango, I was worried that too much of a pop in color would look ridiculous, but it has really made an impression.

Orange will happen I believe, just not with the Ghar...except their eyes are yellow it’s an orange wash.

Speaking of eyes...the Ghar suits have their eye lenses now and first layer on their guns and a nuln wash.

It's amazing- first the little bit of green, now the little bit of red, but these otherwise 'metal colored' colossi are really showing some depth of color! The washes help too, of course, but wow- really like the result with the lenses added.

I love the simplicity of the scheme, it just works perfectly. The could get so messed up with too much going on, but you have a nice balance going on. These models are so tempting, but I will resist.

So far no metals except the eye trims. There will be plenty of boltgun metal added though, but I wanted the main body to not look metallic but some sort of sci fi polymer.

Thanks Cam , you missed the best opportunity as they were on sale during their summer sprue clearance for £1 each instead of £10. Wish I had gotten a ton more, but I had a cunning plan, high fell through . The Ghar are just a fun group of models, kind of like Orks and Gretchin.

As the commercial said, “nothing beats a great pair of L’egs”....except 11 sets of tripod walker legs. Finished the leg stripes, will have to touch up the green later, but for now we are done...ish.

Thanks CK , I need to pick up some Jokero Orange soon to try out your recipe, but I should finish the Ghar first .

In that light I went and finished assembling 12 Ghar assault suits and primed them this morning. I glue their little tripod leg stripes to sprues so I can prime their undercarriage.

With marines and other two leggers it’s easy enough to prime them on bases, but these guys have a third leg that Slaanesh would be envious of so I had to go with a new tactic. It’s easy enough to pop them loose from the sprue before I start painting them and their toes wind up on the bases anyway, so any glue remnants are hidden by the basing material.

Still waiting on my second order from the Warlordgames summer clearance sale. 50ish Algoryn troopers and command. I’m going to test an orange armor scheme for them after playing around with Dwarf beards.

Far right is the desired color as the other two were painting in progress. The Algoryn are going to probably have green skin. Silly lizards.

Edit: package showed up as I was leaving for work. No less than 4 footprints on it .

Went to go get some paints at the FLGS. Stupid salespeople had me walk out since one was teaching a 5 year old Pokémon (I’m fine with that), but the other one was working on the computer and saw me multiple times waiting to check out. The Pokémon person could have excused themselves for a second to ring out the paints, but chose to ignore me.

Not where I should be

Sales "assistants" are very annoying at times.

The orange is very nice, but why so many layers bud. What paints you using? Whats your primer and base colour?

When I go orange I primer white, wash it brown and then go in with a "go fasts" red and then Blood angel orange and highlight/ line Hobgoblin Orange. Just about all GW. Throw a wash over all of it, usually a purple these days but sepia was a fave for a while.
I will sometimes go white primer, yellow base coat then the orange and sepia wash if I want bright finish.

Of course take all that with a large pinch of salt, I am not a painter.

Orange, eh? I did warn everybody. Start with something like red ochre or burnt siena for your base, and build up from that.

I use an airbrush and the 'not macharius solar orange' (IV17 the paint is named) from instar. gives a nice even basecoat, even over black.

You and I might not be golden demon STYLE painters, but you have a style and skills many would give a right and left nut for. Don’t sell yourself short .

Plus I’ll try your mix out this weekend. Still got plenty of Ghar to finish before I jump to Algoryn or back to Concord.

What I should this primer you speak of....sounds French.... actually I used a previously painted figure, but this morning I finally found some white flat primer at the store, so I’m now really prepared.

An Instar order is definitely in my future, kind of waiting till they do a Reikland fleshshade before I jump on it though.

Thanks Az, I definitely like it and it’s not the bog standard style I see out there, so I hope I can just keep plowing ahead with them.

So not much this week. Next week is the churches 100th anniversary celebration, so lots to do there, plus the whole new car thing and I had minor surgery yesterday, but I’m up and moving fine today.

I picked up the jokaero orange and stegadon scale green on Tuesday and been fooling around with the orange lately. The container on the right is the best outcome so far, but more playing still needed.

Also did a few bases on the Ghar in the above picture. Still needs some plants and to finish their weapons.

Good work on all the robot chaps. Scheme works well, looks nice.

Nah, for orange you want to start with a black basecoat, couple of layers of brown, then a couple of brown/orange, blend that into orange over 3 or 4 layers, then a few more layers blended in with added yellow and then highlights with yellow/orange. Done, in less than 15 layers, no problem.

Hope the surgery was nothing too painful or nasty and heals well.

Happy to see more GoA on the board. I have no idea how the game is doing in the UK but from the news and rumours section plenty of people have used the Warlord clearance sale to stock up on cheap Ghar, Concord and Algoryn sprues for armies and conversions.

I really like your scheme on the Ghar battlesuits, the green stripes pop really well and focus the eye well. Your amount of painted Concord a couple of pages back is impressive as well.
