Sorry, phone ate my last post , but it will be addressed in the am as I’m too tired to try and repost right now.

I did want to post my temple of Ro-Kan figs that showed up today.

I used Vallejo brush/airbrush primer grey (they were out of white ), this is my first try of the product, but I will say it went on well. I also tried it on the grave markers I grabbed the other day.

Hopefully I’ll get some time in the am to paint. I’m thinking of using orange for the monks clothing and beige for the peasants. I originally thought of using light green for the monks...guess I’ll decide when I pickup the brush, or if someone here persuades me one way or the other .

Vote for green here.

They look excellent. oh and grey primer is no worries, just put a light drybrush of white over it, instant shading.

Thanks Cam, I was a little concerned with the grey primer, but it turns out it is a very nice light grey and near enough to white that it doesn’t matter.

So I looked at my paints this morning and tried some greens.....I couldn’t find anything that looked “monkish” so I tried my oranges on an old Alchemy figure.

This is just base color and a wash layer so far.

Thanks CK,

Temple seems to be a mix of Shinto, Buddhist and Shao Lin monks, so I think Orange was the right decision. Green I think was a Foley idea I had for a bit to be different for difference sake.

These are some of the oldest sculpts in the line and some have just not held up to the current standard. Kenko here isn’t as bad as the females in the starter (female monk and rice farmer), but even his hands are poor compared to the newer figs.

Layers....like ogres...and onions .

Well 2:30a.m. and I’m just about ready for bed , had to paint though, so here is the peasant Kaito. He is just a tad stronger than a regular rice farmer, and after all terrain is set he gets to place another terrain piece of tilled fields (the size of a stat card). Great for putting between opponent deploy zone and objectives or to funnel the opponent into your kill zone.

Nice thing about him is he is a multi part model with different hand and head options. I could grab a few as he can be fielded as the named character or a regular rice farmer.

Anyway, much deliberation as GCT has a good Black Friday deal going on. Means I might start a third faction sooner than I anticipated . Still breaking down which one to go with. No one near me has any factions so it’s pretty open, but I also try to watch what others like Gits are building and not step on his toes/turf even though my likelihood of ever meeting or playing him are almost nil. The best two options with the Black Friday sale that I can see are either Cult of Yurei and getting Gok as the free model, or getting the Savage Wave and grabbing one of the big Oni (probably Bobcats) as a freebie.

Bravo for painting orange/saffron. I've never found an orange I'm happy with, and went with the blue-gray and a more brownish-orange for my Sohei.

Yours will look good on the table, and contrast nicely with the plainer brown/steel buntai.

Thanks guys , the orange is indeed working out well on these guys/gals. A little leary at first, but having played with orange on dwarf beards recently has helped. A little more progress tonight

Base, wash, recoat of base on the orange and the skin tones. More layers to come on both colors.

Tried to take advantage of the GCTstudio Black Friday promo, but my password was locked up, then my phone got stupid and I was at work. By the time I had my order ready and a new account set up it was passed midnight in England so the promo was over. I sent them an email, hopefully they will let me still order it tomorrow. If so I will have started my third faction for this game, the Silvermoon Trade Syndicate. The yakuza of the Jwar islands, controlling the docks, business and all the dirty deeds. They have a hold on the sumo wrestling federation and multiple character sumo guys . I will probably get banned for all the stuff I have planned (a brothel owned by the Hsu sisters Yu and Wu , a gambling den which I haven’t decided if it will be the “Lonely Cock “(rooster) or the “Lucky Cock” (still a rooster )).

If they don’t let me place the order, then I’m just going to bulk out my Temple of RoKan.

My phone’s been acting weird all day, cyber Monday, so. Couldn’t post this WIP until now.

Still a ton to do, and I have to figure out the sleeves, but I’m liking how she is looking so far.

Still no word from GCT about letting me still place an order since their website wasn’t taking the Black Friday code.

Edit: Last pic before bed.

Cant tell without the cinnamon buns on her head, but your probably right as the studio one has her foot glowing because of the speed of her kicks .

Slow progress today, but Ekusa is moving along as fast as zippy the turtle will let him go.

Still not heard from GCT on the sale, but I’ve also been looking at two other games one has a nice sale going on right now, the other...not so much. But this small scale skirmish is really making me excited.

Edit: not being ready for bed meant that ekusa is now mostly done. I need another blue highlight, but I don’t have any that would work with this, so he will wait till I get options.

Thanks Cam , I was a little worried about the model itself as there are tiny details on it and I rarely paint turtles , but I think he came out pretty good. No awards, but good enough for the tabletop.

GCTstudios has a painting competition that ends tomorrow night the 30th of November, I decided to toss my Minimoto Clan pics out there. I know I won’t win, but they have reinvigorated my painting skills and desire. I also believe that in 40 years of gaming (started D&D when I was 4 with my brother and his friends), this might actually be the first actual army that I have completely finished and based . I’ve never had a fully painted army in all my years, well painted and based anyway. I’ve had some Bloodbowl teams come close, but never Finished. Anyway, I took some better pics to submit in the anything category as that let me submit all of the Minimoto and my Hisoka mercenary.

Well, hopefully it gets some good reviews.

Got a quick response from sending that in, but still no response from the sale even though they go to the same email address.

Also 10%ebay discount today.......till midnight pacific time.

Really nice clan figures, great painting! I envy your focus, just at the moment- I'm a little scattered as I get the current project off the table and the next one started.

Not sure you can all me focused, I was going to buy my third faction before finishing my first one . Luckily number one is done and the second is about half done. The third faction I was going to do is now on hold as I just scored an eBay deal talking the seller down and then the 10% coupon to boot . So hopefully soon I’ll be receiving 80Rice worth of Ninja of the Kage Kaze Zoku clan to work on them. 8 figs total, couldn’t tell the paint quality from the photo, but I’ll redo them anyway.

The question now is do I continue basing all the factions the same? Or do each faction different to help separate them on the board? I like the first route better, but the second could be a good alternative. The problem comes from the mercenaries like Hisoka who I already did with the same base style as the Minimoto Clan, but can also be used with my Temple guys.

I like the idea of each faction having its own, distinctive basing- develops a unity amongst the force and (as you mentioned) makes it easier to tell the players without a scorecard.

I've slipped some in my Three Rules of Miniatures, which were originally:

1) Work on only one project at a time

2) Don't buy another kit until an existing project is complete

3) Stay focused on one- no more than two- distinct armies (which for me was Imperial Guard and Eldar)

These have no morphed into:

A) Work on only one project at a time (I'm pretty good about keeping to this)

B)Purchase, but don't open/prep new kits if I'm already working on one (not so good about this

C) The Third Rule of Miniatures is that we don't talk about the Third Rule of Miniatures (darn you Kickstarter and your sparkly, seductive games across the spectrum!)

Yeah, I think the build all the models for a marine army is what kills it for me. The constant rules updates don’t help.

It’s like unicorns, dragons and eskimos. Mythical things that don’t exist.

Thanks CC, it is nice to finish, even though I know I’ll add more to it later.

In the mean time I knocked out two peasants for the temple. Here they are with Kaito, one more Monk(ess) to finish to complete the army.

Edit: also the Bushido painting Competition is over and already the winners are posted. Some really great pieces at their website. I didn’t win obviously, but it was nice to compete and get shown on their website, along with all other entrants.

Unless you consider the endangered fat African unicorns

Which may become my next space marine chapter. Over the millennia lore about unicorns and Rhinoceroses gets jumbled and combined. With the new primaris marines and the new founding, one of the high lords of terra decides to make his own chapter. The Umber Unicorns . They use their horns as teleport homers and the rate of psykers in the chapter is higher than normal which is seen as a blessing of the emperor since these were magnificent flying magical creatures.

Anyways....

The ninja are taking the long way to the US. The eBay seller is sending it second class with signature , not due until December 20th . Two weeks+ . I have one more monk to finish, and this week while I’m off from the hospital I figure I will get that done and get the basement cleared out as we are hosting Christmas in our tiny home .

I still have plenty that I could get to painting, but no more bushido, unless I do some scratch building of terrain. All seems possible, but there has been a dark whisper lately coming from my boxes of stashed goodies. An evil darkness hungers for paint. Though I would never use it for anything as it isn’t far too big, I feel the desire to paint it horribly.
Spoiler:

Demigorgon

Edit: decided to work on some terrain I had planned.

Territorial walls, the upper parts will be stained, the bottom part will probably be a very light grey/white. I feel the upper wood should be reddish in hue as that seems to be the predominant color for castles and temples, but what do you guys think? Here’s a sample of the wood with one coat of some of the GW washes
