Out of the "three ways" to play 8th edition, which "way" will you be playing most?

My goal is to play more Narrative games, but I will likely be incorporating elements from all three play types into my games, particularly Matched Play points values and army construction methods in Narrative and Open games.

Seem like matched is the going to be the closest to the 40k. Not so sure about the other two ways though. Do people play open and narrative in AOS?

Matched/narrative myself, unless I'm throwing something together on the spot I'd rather come to close balance via points, but if we want to do something stupid on one side or another, why not? I'm not a tournament player though.

Matched play will likely dominate in my area (as I suspect it will in most).
However, Narrative play seems appealing for casual games. I will lilkely play Narrative as much as I can outside of Matched play for tournaments
Open play will likely just be for new players who are just trying to get models on the board.

whatever way I voted on this near-exact same poll last week - Matched.

other favorites:

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Could we have multiple choice on the poll? I'll probably play a mix of the three depending on who I'm playing and how we feel.

Yes, why can't I play all three?

depends on a number of factors. probably matched, but I would be pleasantly surprised if casual games in my area were using the power level mechanic for PUGs. IT would give a clear expectation for they type of game desired. Tournament serious = matched, relaxed and casual = narrative.

Narrative play for campaigns. Matched play for recreating the WWE universe world championship.

I probably won't play Open, just because there is no gauge for "fair" play and it is down to player's judgement, but I'll Play Narrative or Matched play all day

You're missing "Yes" as answer.

Probably matched for tournaments and pickup games, narrative for campaigns and open for ongoing weekend multiplayer battles where we recycle units whenever the board starts looking a bit empty.

Matched play sounds like the best way to me, since they give a roughly good way to set up games quickly and fair.

And, in my opinion, when you play a campaign or Something, Nothing has ever held us from building up narrative lists in agreement with your opponents, even before narrative play an official thing was.

40k: Necrons/Imperial Guard/ Space marines
Bolt Action: Germany/ USA
Project Z.

In regards to the multiple choice requests, the poll is which way will you play the most. I figure most will dabble in all three , but which "way" will dominate your playtime?

I will change the title. Thanks for the feedback!

Mostly Matched Play, but I'm sure I'll be doing a not-insignificant amount of Narrative Play too. I think Mega Battles will probably work best in Narrative or Open play.

I guess our club will play matched.
We often play larger games for several hours.

All my group can talk about is how easy it will be to get a game together just using powerlevels.

So my guess is open play most of the time with narrative being a close second...

Narrative mostly with mmy friends since they prefer lore games, Matched with pugs/relative strangers for balance.

And if I'm going to switch between 2 or 3 of them depending on the mood?

I'm really lucky to play with extremely laid back friends. We have played "open" for decades. Throwing miniatures that we like on the board and yelling battle cries has been our play style since 95'. Never going to change.

I actually think that I'm going to incorporate a lot of the new ways to play into my gaming. Open for introducing new people "What do you like the look of?" kind of games. Narrative will be my bread and butter as I already mostly play campaign scenarios, plus I like the idea of power levels being a rough equivalency so you can get the story going rather then opining on what you should add to your list. Then for large battles with tons of models and units all over the board going with matched play and points based lists to reign in the chaos.

Combination. I've found through Sigmar that they all have their own value, matched will be most common though.

You could probably get a pretty close approximation of the answer to this poll by asking "how much Unbound did you play in 7th?"

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

I wold like to say Narrative but I just cant see it sticking about as an option for long in my area.
Matched just offers everyone a level playing field and with a few people in my local meta really fine tuning their armies to WAAC in 7th I think people may optimise their lists still for the advantage in Narrative games so see it dying off reasonably quickly where I am.
