I suppose GW is thinking we can just put em in transports. and that'd work if they had an affordable transport option, but if primaris Marines transports are land raider prices like I think they'll be, not sure it'll work
Well if the transport holds, say, 10 dudes then three reivers could jump out, throw grenades, and set up a charge for another unit while still leaving room for a 5-squad+character in the transport. Or 3 aggressors+character.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Next 40k live streams (Thursday and Friday CET) will be feature the Redemptor dreadnought and Codex: SM

Warhammer Live Schedule : July 12th – July 14th

We’re in for another packed week of great Warhammer content on Warhammer Live this week, including an exclusive first look at both the Redemptor Dreadnought and the Ultramarines Chapter Tactics on Friday.

Kicking off the week, we’ll be visiting the Mortal Realms with a classic Age of Sigmar matchup pitting Adam’s Blades of Khorne against Martin’s Stormcast Eternals. You can catch this on Wednesday at 2:00pm (UK time).

In the afternoon, we’ll be looking at a smaller (but no less intense) game with the latest in our Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Skirmish campaign, featuring the community team’s own Nick bringing his Kharadron Overlords to bear against Jim’s Stormcast Eternals. With the campaign drawing to a close, the stakes are higher than ever – make sure to tune in at 6:00pm to catch the action.

On Thursday, we’ll be taking a look inside the studio, starting with an interview with legendary Warhammer writer Phil Kelly. Phil will be discussing the background in the new Codex: Space Marines. As well as the classic story of the Space Marines there’s loads of new content following the Adeptus Astartes in the wake of the Ultima Founding and the Indomitus Crusade, meaning that there’s surprises in store for even veteran players.

You can watch the interview with Phil at 2:30pm. Later in the day, we’ll be diving into Path to Glory with Ben Johnson from the Design Studio. Path to Glory is the new way to play narrative campaigns in the Mortal Realms, and Ben will be providing some insight into what you can expect when it’s released.

For Friday, we’ll be returning to the 41st Millennium, starting with James’ Sons of Guilliman versus Harvey’s Harlequins. This is going to be a very exciting game indeed, as James will be testing out the Redemptor Dreadnought in an exclusive preview, as well as the Ultramarines’ Chapter Tactics.

This is your chance to see how the new Space Marines codex is changing the game, whether you’re looking for more tactical options for your army, want to see what you can expect to face in the coming months or just want to see our biggest Dreadnought ever tear up some Aeldari. You won’t want to miss it – tune in at 2.00pm to ensure you catch every moment. Finally, our last game of the week sees Chaos clash with Chaos, as Kelly’s Khornate forces battle with James’s Tzeentch Daemons – check it out on Warhammer TV at 6:00pm.

Make sure not to miss what promises to be a great week of programming – you can catch it all live for free on Twitch, or subscribe and watch our back catalogue whenever you like.

Hmm... So the chaper tactics are returning. I'm not so sure how I feel about that. Whilst adding flavour to armies is a nice idea in theory, it too easily leads to certain tactics just being better and everyone either having to use those regardless of their army's fluff or voluntarily to gimp themselves.

I hope they require some form of price paid to be used. If they cost a command point to being effect, I am on board. Space Marines are pretty bland right now, with individual special characters being the only real thing separating the different Chapters.

So... every other Chapter than Ultramarines can't legally use them right now?

Ehh...these are from the "First Strike" box. Everything in there has keyword "Ultramarine" where keyword "Chapter" would be.

It's datasheet from the First Stike box, that's why it says that. Codex version will be for all normal chapters.

Does that red text seem to indicate that they also won't be getting "Infiltrate" down the road too?

Probably.

When we first saw them previewed, it explicitly called them out as dropping into enemy territory via grav-chutes or using grapnel launchers to infiltrate into higher vantage points before the main force arrives.

In the art their backpacks have these strange fins that the models do not have. Perhaps those are an upgrade option in the multipart kit that allows grav-chuting?

In any case, as cheap as they are, I think I'll wait till I see the codex before getting these; as the rules stand now, they seem pretty bloody useless.

Since the red text says "don't use these rules now", it looks like the won't have infiltrate, deep strike or anything similar?

Seems like GW just forgot to out something like that in for them?

Otherwise, they're not really operating behind enemy lines.

Or anywhere near them.

You mean you don't want Intercessors with shorter range and fewer shots in exchange for an additional attack they won't get to use?

Or it's just being left out for whatever reason right now.

So... shock grenades -1 to hit lasts until the end of the turn. Which means there's no way to make them last into your opponent's shooting phase.

I guess... you overwatch with them? So they get -1 to hit in combat.

Player or game turn? Doesn't say.

Game turns are called rounds.
Individual player turns are called turns.
I think it would only work during the marine player's turn.

So they are. They used to just call them "turns"...

I would still wait to see the full rules. I could see them getting "until end of the round" potentially.

Has there been any indication from GW that these aren't the full rules?

As mentioned, until the codex is out, these are literally not worth taking ever. As it, they make the jump pack guys look amazing, and they are super horrible aswell.

I get it is a into/learn to play set, but making is so bland and boring without any real options or full rules seems like a stupid strategy

I am glad I held off buying them until the leaks hit. Their fluff sounded awesome as hell, but GW failed miserably on their rules.

Tbf, that's probably because of the starter set. It would be a lot easier for new players if they already had a faction keyword, instead of introducing that sort of mechanic for them from the beginning.
The lack of infiltration is surprising. I guess they are more like front line troops or something.

Yeah at 18 points or whatever it was they are pretty cheap for multi wound models. but they eat an elite squad which also sucks.

very short range and normal walking speed with no transport (so far)

not enough bodies to use as screen.

i dont know man :/

Given that this is the data sheet for the First strike box and not the full codex profile its probable that options and possibly rules have been left out. The provided gaming mat in the box is only 2x2, maybe GW felt there was no point in giving them any alternate deployment options?

Thats true in a 2x2 it wont be that big a deal and these guys would be amazingly cool in a small scale skirmish table.
but that designer note is worrying me. because if it was supposed to be special super small learning game then why stop at special rules and moral when they can also teach infiltrate.

Everyone should stop panicking about these rules from the starter set. We have no idea if these are the full rules. We do know they'll have other weapon options.

As for infiltrate, we don't even know if the starter set uses normal deployment. I think I read that it has markings on one side of the mat showing you where to set everyone up. If so, there'd be no reason to say anything more - at least for the purposes of that game. It doesn't even seem to use the morale rules, so expecting stuff like deep strike or infiltrate to happen is pretty silly.

For what it's worth, even as they stand, 18 point guys with two wounds and 3 attacks actually aren't that bad at all. There are plenty of ways you could use them. They aren't amazing, it's true.

This. People aren't freaking out about the First Strike dataslate for Deathguard with 3 models and no options, so why is everyone so uppity about the Reiver slate? They will obviously get full rules in another month in the Codex. Are people so hard up for power armored scouts that they need Reivers to be a fully viable competitive unit starting this week?

Reivers in the 'real' game come in 5s and not 3s.

Also, red text implied the four missions are to actually teach you how to play like the Infinity sets. You know gradually introducing new rules as you progress.
