Yeah maybe. Or if you get special weapon options in the proper box, just make two guys with them and swap one of them into the DI unit.

RE - Helmets aren't hard to come by. Part of the problem is that the ones who have their helmets off, have them molded onto the model in fairly obnoxious ways. If your army has robes and incense and other ornamental stuff, this can be an easy fix but you're gonna have to carve it off and smooth it over, then add whatever details. If you're running a pretty standard power armor army, this probably means resculpting whatever plate you cut it off of and throwing pouches over it.

It's not something that works across an entire army, but you could just drill a bullet/bolt hole in the helmet at their hip or wherever to make it look like it had been previously damaged and the wearer worse-for-wear. Now instead of being an "extra" helmet, it's a relic they're carrying in memorial of some fallen comrade or mentor. Far from the most bizarre thing the Astartes have ever done, and it saves a great bit of time. If you're doing a custom Chapter, such memento mori could be "their thing" which would be decent-enough handwavium (though obviously the fluff for the GW Chapters wouldn't line up).

I like the characters and will probably get the Reivers, but I'm not certain on the Aggressors. Need to see more of them since I avoided Centurions and those two seem more analogous than Terminators.

But yes, old helmets fit and they're really not difficult to come by.

I worked Neuro for five years, motorcycles and GSWs have taught me that protecting your melon is pretty damn important. And that was before I joined the Army and I had it beaten into my head how important a helmet is.

Starship Troopers was all I needed to see to know how important a helmet is haha

I think people are looking through a 7th edition lense when it comes to these new strategems and the like. I have a feeling that while marines might be getting for example 10 new strategems(Not sure how many) 2-3 will be generic and the rest will be chapter specific. So each marine army will only really have access to 4 strategems. Same with relics and chapter tactics. Each army will only have access to a few relics and one chapter tactic at a time. No additional force org charts. If you look at it from that lense it really is not adding too much in the way of bloat because at its core only 5-6 small things are changing based on your army.

There has not been any indication that your army choices are restricted to a single Chapter tactics has there? I think it is only a single Relic per Chapter in the book?

Sunglasses are pretty damn important here, under the desert sun, much like wearing a helmet is pretty damn important in the middle of a battle.

But that's just me, and how I prefer my army. I don't care if you want any or all of your own troops going around bare headed, it's your army, not mine.

Whole bunch of "stop liking what I don't like" going on in this particular tangent of the thread.

Also, some stratagems seem to be tied to specific units, like the formation bonuses were, so it is not like you'll have access to all of them at once.

New community post for Raven Guard is up.

Holy hell, another great CT.

Also: Reivers with grav-chutes confirmed in text and pic.

Chapter Focus: Raven Guard

The Raven Guard are a dark and mysterious Chapter, specialising in covert warfare. Using speed and stealth, the Raven Guard stalk their enemies before unleashing a lethal killing blow, before melting back into the shadows once more. In the new Codex: Space Marines, the Raven Guard are a diverse and flexible army, taking full advantage of stealth, shooting and melee to annihilate their foes.

Shadow Masters is one of the most versatile and powerful new Chapter Tactics, offering a great bonus for all sorts of armies. Raven Guard Scouts now live up to their reputation in the background, and units of snipers with camo cloaks will be incredibly difficult to displace from cover, while other ranged support units like Devastators, Intercessors and even ranged Dreadnoughts will benefit hugely from better defences against shooting. Like all the new Chapter Tactics, the purpose of this rule is to reward focused army building with powerful benefits that allow for a range of viable armies.

The Raven Guard aren’t just a shooting army – on the other side of the coin, they’re still a potent combat army. Kayvaan Shrike, now promoted to Chapter Master of the Raven Guard, allows fellow Raven Guard jump pack units to reroll their charge ranges, helping your Assault Squads, Vanguard Veterans and Inceptors close the distance on key enemy units.

Reivers, on the other hand, are a versatile and powerful unit in a Raven Guard army and function well with other assault units; they’re almost as mobile as jump troops with their grapnel launchers and grav-chutes, with some handy abilities like Terror Troops and shock grenades. If you want to make your own Raven Guard characters, their unique Warlord Trait, Silent Stalker, prevents enemies from firing Overwatch, while the Raven’s Fury Chapter relic allows a jump pack character to move at blistering speeds and reroll charge ranges – combined, you’ll have a potent and deadly character assassin.

One of the most exciting new features of the Raven Guard is their unique Stratagem, Strike From the Shadows. You’ll want to pack as many command points as you can into your list to take full advantage of this, allowing you to hold units back at the start of the game and deploy them anywhere more than 9″ away from the enemy just before the game begins.

There’s a huge range of ways to use this; getting a group of Hellblasters or Centurions into a strong firing position, setting up a devastating first turn charge with an Assault Squad or Inceptors, or just forcing your enemy to deploy defensively. As this rule is tied to command points, you’ll be able to choose how you use it – in some games you’ll want to deploy lots of your army with Strike from the Shadows, while in others it may be beneficial to hold some points back for a crucial re-roll, or another Stratagem like a flyer-busting flakk missile.

With the new codex out soon, your army won’t have to wait in the shadows much longer. In the meantime, now is a great time to pick up Kayvaan Shrike to lead your own Raven Guard army. Make sure to come back tomorrow for another sneak peek at a Chapter from the new codex.

Another interesting thing: the pic has the Reivers with Fast Attack markings. So... two distinct Reiver versions maybe? Could explain why we had no rules for grav-chutes on the EtB datasheet.

Mmmm. Infiltrating assault centurions. Good times. Why pay for an expensive land raider when you can just appear by magic? Same may apply to the new aggressors, now I think about it.

Also, and for rather fewer points, we get an actual use for hellblasters! Deep strike joy. I just wonder if you'll be able to use this strategem more than once in a phase under matched play.

And RGs are oddly good in a shooting match. I'm going to hold fire on seeing what the imperial fist rules are, before I paint my deredeo black.

So far, I rate RG as better than smurfs, I think. The only caveat I'd put on this is that SM infantry still aren't actually very good, so no chapter tactics really are all that effective. Bolters still aren't enough of a threat to enough units to matter very much.

Have you seen the Primaris information from the rulebook?

Guilliman has given the various markings new meanings.

The Tactical marking(upward arrow) is now "Battleline".
The Devastator marking(upward facing chevron) is "Fire Support".
The Assault marking(diagonally crossed quad arrows) is now "Close Support".
The Crux remains as "Veteran".

Also, so glad that the Raven Guard Chapter Tactic isn't something stupid about Jump Packs.

Yeah that chapter tactic, a lot like the ultramarine one, seems only tangentially relevant. It fits the chapter playstyle, but is a really indirect way of doing so that more directly suits castling up a heavy gunline.

More weird than anything.

Nah, don't worry. It's going to be balanced, like, totally. And all chapter tactics and other armies' special rules will be equally powerful. No need to worry...

Its not that bad. If they are 12" away they are within rapid fire range without the hit penalty.
