It’s the beta bolter rules. It says they work on relics that replace rapid fire weapons. Duty’s burden can replace rapid fire, assault or even heavy weapons.

It seems a badly written rule. Beta bolter rules should work on rapid fire bolt relics, regardless of what was replaced. The reverse wouldn’t be true after all. If you replaced an ancient’s bolt rifle with something heavy, the beta rules couldn’t apply even though it says they should.

Naw, that ancient thing at the end here wouldn't be true.

Two things need to happen for a relic to benefit:

1. It replaces a rapid fire bolt weapon
2. It also is a rapid fire bolt weapon

The reason Primaris Caps and LTs wouldn't get it RAW is because only one of those is true when both need to be.

We'll see what happens in the spring FAQ, though. I imagine there's been a lot of feedback.

Thanks for clarifying. I don't I would have ever picked up on that one. It's just not how I read GW rules. I think I've played 40k for so long that I play rules as intended without ever noticing that the RAW didn't say what they want.

Yeah it’s an odd one. It’s just a stupid bit of writing. All they needed to say was that it works for rapid fire relics. Who cares what the stats were of the gun you used to have?

Hello everybody.

Has anyone tried pure primaris Blood Angels or BA successors? How does that work in a competitive scene? Is it workable in a more casual scenario?

I keep looking briefly at Blood Angels stuff and Primaris and think “That would look nice, heck, Reivers may actually be good this way.”

I imagine something like a mini-gun castle with a few close-quarters shooters and assault party units being sent into the enemy. This could be aided by Princeps of Deceit to play mind games with the deployment of one of the assault parties.

Along the line, I want to do something with Primaris after my Scions are done, and I’m not sure between BA and RG. But, I’m thinking I’m liking BA better.

There's a fun blog over at B&C of a memorable Blood Angels player running a triple Repulsor, double Redemptor list. Not only does his army look bloody beautiful, it seems to be semi-competitive with him placing really well in most tournaments. Has trouble in some match ups so his performance at the latest Heat at Warhammer World wasn't so hot, but it's a fun list and a bit against the meta.

As usual, the important thing to remember is that it's Astartes and Primaris, so you don't have the tools to win LVO or anything, but it's solid and fun.

Most of the melee threats come from the smash captain (converted into a Primaris model) and the two Redemptor fists. Secondary melee threats from Intercessors, Lt, and standard Primaris cap. A good way to eat through other infantry. Repulsors to saturate the board with armoured threats, thus taking the heat off the Redemptors, and get the Intercessors into the middle of the board to hold or contest objectives and charge in where possible.

Yeah I chatted to that guy at the finals. It's a very interesting list.

Repulsors are great with their reduced cost, except for one thing: castellans. I've got two and I used one at the GT finals (where I actually did a little better than that BA list as it happens, though still not brilliantly). I had a crusader and a couple of armigers to try and build up my armour to saturate.

The problem I'm seeing is that a castellan is just so damn good at killing vehicles, especially those without invulnerable saves, that there's no such thing as saturation. The more vehicles you bring the more of your army it will kill.

So instead I think it's probably better to go for a large number of hellblasters, say 20+, and maybe some suppressors too, with the relic banner. A Castellan can't kill infantry anything like as quickly as it can vehicles, and they can shoot back when they die.

I like my Primaris infantry and it's them that I think I'd like to saturate the board with, rather than vehicles. They can actually deal with most threats pretty well. Against hordes I'm finding that just you can get local superiority quite easily by ganging up a bunch of primaris guys to charge something like a mob of orks.

I haven't tried out the new vanguard guys yet. It looks to me like they'll add something pretty significant to the army.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned about the new infiltrators is their marksmen carbines do a mortal wound on unmodified 6s instead of a normal wound. So on overwatch every hit is a mortal wound, which is especially nice when these guys are taking up forward positions and get charged.

Wounds automatically does not mean it inflicts a mortal wound. It just means you don’t have to roll to wound.

Which actually sucks for some things such as Storm of Fire since you never roll to wound, so you can't trigger Storm of Fire. I wish it was worded in a way that a natural roll of a 6 to hit counts as a 6 to wound for the purposes of abilities.

Hey guys, just scheduled a game for next weekend against my friend's pure knight list at 1500p. I've been finishing my new raven guard pure primaris army. Now that I look at them and think of knights.. Oh, man how do I bring em down.. now that I can even list tailor . Any suggestions or good experiences? Other than playing the mission..

I think maybe you will want to change your army to Dark Angel. Bring a ton of Hellblasters as your major hard hitter. Buff them with Azreal and Darkshroud. Making them all minus one to hit while having 4++. Then you have a hope to survive the volley from IK army long enough. Then use "weapons of the dark age" to nuke the Knight that can't have 3++ save.

Azzy and Darkshroud aren't primaris.. Just sold my over 100+ dark angels army collection.. Hellblasters, MW snipers, null zone.. DS plasma inceptors.. but all are lackbusters in the end...

Apple Peel, I keep thinking 30 blood angels infiltrators would be fun. Deploy 9" from the enemy DZ. Move, shoot the screen or shoot passed it, charge something you didn't shoot. Consulate to tie up something else.

No idea if it would really work though and it's a bit first turn dependent.

I’ve imagined a tactic for Blood Angels Primaris.

Get a full Reiver Squad with combat knives and Grav-Chutes, Librarian with Phobos that knows Hallucination and Shrouding, and a full Inceptor squad.

This whole grouping drops turn two somewhere with lots of chaff/chaffed up objective, etc. Inceptors combat squad as they deploy to make the enemy split their fire. Librarian casts shrouding on the Reivers. The Ineceptors tank enemy fire with T5.
Next turn, Reivers get in optimal range to throw shock grenades, and charge. Librarian has casted Hallucination on the enemy charged unit.
Bring along a Phobos Lieutenant to make it more potent when his points cost comes down.

In addition, one could see about getting a regular librarian into position over the turns to give the Reivers Unleash Rage.
Just something I’m theory crafting. Nothing I’ll
Be able to try out for a long while.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

10 rievers with carbines are a great target for scryers gaze. Forget the knives, even for ba.

I don’t know. Twenty ingnore cover attacks versus 31-41 +1 wound, possible reroll 1s, no overwatch?

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

You can shoot the back rank and charge the front rank.

Are you planning to wait until the third turn before you charge?

I can probably get in turn 2 with the vanguard warlord trait.

That’s one thing I don’t like. Just putting that on a not very durable character so close to the action without bringing the whole army along.

I’m thinking this would be more of a tough chaff clearing betastrike to drop on the enemy.

That’s why I i theorized having the Inceptor squad and the librarian cast shrouding. Just to protect the Reivers until they could make a safe charge.

It might be good to buff up 10 infiltrators too. Reroll misses yields more 6s which are pretty valuable.

I run my marines as Deathwatch and they are nearly all Primaris except 2 ven dreads and a single squad of 9 vets with sb/ss but I'm thinking of replacing the veteran squad with 10 intercessors. Ok it's half the shots but you get -1 ap even when using hellfire shells and obviously 2 wounds each.

Another unit I've recently brought into my collection is 3 inceptors with plasma, thinking of giving them a try next game as they seem really cool.

Hi all

Anyone got any Intresting primaris dark Angels list that's not just the normal cookie cutter hellblasters blob?

So you know, the double shots is always better than the AP-1.

You could try a deep strike bomb. Smash captain, Phobos Lieutenant, 6x Plasma Inceptors, 6x Dakka Inceptors, and 3 Supressors is just under 1K points.
