Duty’s burden has a glitch in the rules. The new bolter rules only work for relics that replace rapid fire weapons. It therefore works for an ancient but not for a captain or lieutenant. Still a great relic, but it’s hard to argue that only crimson Fists should have access to it. There have to be other artificer bolt rifles out there.
in fairness chapter relics tend to be old and have a lot of history to them, so primaris specific relics should be rare. I'd be happy if they expanded the Primaris Army a bit instead so that Primaris captains could have chainswords etc.

So was fiddling with a 1000 point list just now
Battalion
1 Primaris Captain
1 Primaris Librarian
3 5 man Intercessor Squads, sergents have chainswords and each squad has a grenade launcher
2 5 man Hellblaster Squads
1 Eliminator Squad
1 Redemptor Dreadnought
I don't think it's going to be a tourny winning list but I'm thinking this looks like a great "core" to build around.
Yeah not bad mate but in my opinion librarians for SM are pretty crappy I'd just go with an LT for reroll wounds.

I'm not sure about that - sure, their powers aren't something you downright have to include like with other factions, but willingly giving up the ability to engage in the psychic phase seems like a mistake.

I do usually go with the LT. the Libby is an ok third choice I do quite like them but the rerolls are too good, and a single Libby can’t do all that much to stop enemy casters but some of the powers are pretty good.

I play Blood Ravens.
why i went with the Libby. I agree a Lt is a better choice, but I'd feel wrong putting down a Blood raven army without a Libby

As usual, I couldn't disagree more.
And you play a faction with a better set of spells.

Or maybe let Blood Ravens buy the Chapter Master upgrade for a Librarian?

I could sort of see that, but Librarians are too squishy and lack the stats for that to be worthwhile. I would rather have a Captain with Smite and a deny.

Having used crappy ass ba librarians and crappy ass dw librarians i can confidently say both spell lists suck ass as does a single deny. So disagree all you like, libbies are trash at their current cost.
Better spell list my ass.

I usually run a librarian of the Primaris flavour and the only thing he ever does well is get might of heroes off on my Repulsor every turn which is nice but not really worth 100 points!

yeah the Librarius power list is so under whelming, I was crossing my fingers on a fools hope that they'd introduce a second (well third) Librarian school for space marines in the blood ravens index. as it is I really want to run a Libby but know I'm essentially hobbling myself if I do so

yeah a full ten man squad of veteran intercessors is going to outfight anything but dedicated hard melee units. assuming you give the sergant a chainsword, that's 31 attacks at S4 AP - hitting first. it won't kill a unit but it'll certainly inflict a fair degree of casualities. and possiably even the possiability'll be eneugh to force someone to be more cautious around your gunline

Mine has been clutch in almost every game due to deny, Might of Heroes on a beat stick, and Null Zone. Every once in a while Smite shows just how valuable it can be against invuln targets.
I guess I just have a completely different experience from you all. I can't imagine not having a chance to deny against GSC and Eldar. Not having the ability to try and disrupt their plans, especially given how much they rely on psychic combos, feels like ceding that entire phase to let them do what they want.

Mistakes were made, and I am now in posession of three Repulsor Executioners. They do only come with the three sprues - not the original repulsor turret.
I'm most of the way through building the first one*. Going to try and find a way to magnetise the main gun. It looks like the best way to do that will be to have the top of the turret lift off.
It's not a particularly easy build. There are these little wedge pieces that fit in where the side sponsons go. Getting them to sit in the right place is not easy at all. Managed it though.
*Haven't done the tracks, which are the worst bit. Not at all looking forward to having to clean up all those pieces. Two noraml repulsors was bad enough :(

yeah when I built my repulsor there where some gaps along the side, ended up buying some liquid green stuff to address it. that said repulsors are nifty looking models when completed.

Same here. I've always had to do a little bit of filling. These pieces for the executioner are a bit worse though. They need to be trimmed a bit to actually fit where they're supposed to go and they're going to need some filling too.
On the plus side, the turret top and bottom fit so snugly that I don't seem to even need magnets to hold them together. This means I can just swap guns around with no work needed. I've magnetised where you have the option of an Icarus pod or an auto launcher box.
I'm pretty happy with the profile of the finished tank. I think this more MBT-like turret really improves the repulsor. I think the laser looks a bit better than the plasma gun, but the plasma is probably the better option in most cases.

I always think I'll do that, but so often they just cast the uber buffs and jumps from outside deny range. Or seem to have some sort of bonus/reroll such that odds of countering are so low that it still wasn't worth the tax of taking the Lib. I've gone back and forth on adding an AM psycher to my Loyal 32 to threaten a deny for the same reasoning and less points, but ehh...That's skipping the so-so Lib body, but still paying a 20pt tax for a single deny and smite.
I do hope Librarians get some sort of school buff. I'd like a reason to use my Primaris Lib model instead of knowing another captain is usually the better option. ...Well, that or doing the super friends multi chapter librarian soup.

I doubt we'll see any changes to Libby's for a bit, I suppose when the Gravis line comes out (could be next year but more likely 2 or 3 years out) we'll get a cast disipline for that that'll be all around making our heavy troops harder to kill. which could be handy

I agree with this. A chance to deny seems great but in reality it's very hard to do. A lot of the really nasty stuff can be done from far out of range. Even then you've got to actually beat their roll, which is probably a decent one to start with given that they've managed to cast the power.
However, null zone is truly transformative if you can get it cast. When my fist of vengeance captain has might of heroes and null zone up, things get splatted very rapidly. He once killed two flyrants in a single round (back when flyrants were a thing) thanks to honour the chapter. But it's hard to cast null zone and harder still to get it into the right place.
When I go against psyker-heavy armies (which isn't that often nowadays anyway) I tend to go for the vigilus detachment that gives the relic of gatalmor. Give that to my lieutenant and he becomes a pretty good deterrant against psykers near my lines - which are typically hemlocks.

I've only used it a couple of times to be honest. I found it to be a nice little deterrant. It probably has roughly the same impact as a single librarian's attempt to deny, but the threat of mortal wounds is nice. It makes people worried to cast even though the risk isn't really that bad. It's not fun for warlocks, with their two wounds.

Best way to run unnumbered sons would be to run them as vanilla space marines and run them with the indomatus crusade veterans specialist detachment giving your warlord the Greysheild warlord trait.
On another note, Primaris Eliminators, anyone else come to the conclusion they're almost a necessity. Primaris Marines are most vunerable to over charged plasma, and eliminators allow us to if not remove at least give some trouble to HQs with re-roll bubbles making over charging slightly riskier

I tried to put a little extra model glue in the joints (always a risky technique) but was overly cautious so I will have to go back and liquid green stuff in places. Better than making a mess though. I think for the main guns I am not going to bother with magnetic so much as just not glue the base of the turret to allow me to change out guns. I don't expect I will be doing it so often as to wear out the decent press fit I have right now.
I thought the worse part was the grav plates as they were just kinda boring to prepare and there is so many of them. I think I would have preferred the twin bolters over the doors like the regular repulsor instead on on the turret, but they aren't so bad.
BrianDavion wrote:honestly the more I look at the classic repulsor (GW's going to need to give us a specific name for this one. repulsor Prime perhaps?) the more I see a Bradley.

I now wish I ahd the skills to do transfers. I could proiably make a killing selling those online
and yeah I've not glued my turret for my repulsor in, it'll make transporting a bit easier I suspect.

I've been thinking about which gun is best for the executioner. Initially I thought it was probably the plasma gun, because more shots are always useful and its damage vs big stuff is only marginally lower than the laser.
However the large number of penalties to hit out there are possibly going to change my mind. A Plasma gun isn't much use at all against an eldar flyer list - you probably do yourself as much damage as you do to them. And while the laser doesn't get quite as many shots (4 instead of an average 7) the repulsor has so much dakka anyway that this isn't that big a problem.
