What's a loyalist Space Marine Chapter you like that doesn't really get a lot of attention or are overlooked for the most part? For me, well there's a few, but one Chapter I like is the Mortifactors. The Mortifactors are a pretty unique Successors of the Ultramarines in that they don't really behave like most successors of the Smurfs.....I won't say much about their lore but let's just say it involves a lot of Cannibalism, tribal savagery, and just things that make them one of the most morbid Chapters out there.

The Ultramarines. Truly they are an underappreciated chapter that never gets any love on the tabletop or official art/pictures/novels.

There are a ton of successor chapters out there so good luck giving them all proper time in the spotlight but in terms of 1st founding i think Iron Hands really get the short end of the stick in terms of fluff and product coverage.

"Hold my shoota, I'm goin in"

7000+ Points Death Skullz
4000 Points

Same here. That's one of the reasons why they're my favorite Chapter.

The Lamenters. The 1D4Chan article has a good summary. They are the Loyalest of the Loyal and get constantly fethed over because of it.

To summarise: One of the most fethed-over Space Marine Chapters in Warhammer 40K history. Cursed to die horribly, turn to Chaos, or both in every single bit of fluff they appear in. You think the White Scars got fethed by Games Workshop? Nothing compared to the Lamenters. Think the Chaos Pretty Marines got owned hard by Angron? Nothing compared to the Lamenters. Think the Afriel Strain soldiers are cursed? Nothing compared to the Lamenters. Think that the Raven Guard, Salamanders, and Iron Hands got beaten horribly on Isstvan V? Nothing compared to the Lamenters.

Iron Hands. One of the most interesting chapters, and they don't even have a special character outside FW.

On the Loyalist Side, the Black Dragons. They are basically an entire chapter of super wolverines. They're usually overshadowed by the other Cursed Foundings since they don't have much of a tragic story compared to the rest.

On the Traitor side, the Cleaved. The mysteries behind the black ooze coming from their armor intrigues me. It was also an interesting way to depict nurgle marines (or even plague marines) as it showed that pus and bloat weren't the only ways to honor pappy nurgle.

As far as First Founding, I completely agree on the Iron Hands front. Even our only special character is a Forge World unit, and he isn't even Iron Hands - He's 'Sons of the Gorgon', which is sort of Iron Hands, but not exactly.

Plus, as an aside, our Chapter Tactics this edition feel super flat, and our Warlord Trait and Relic really don't do a darned thing to capture the feel of our army. (Smashfather FNP-stacking wasn't fluffy, either, but at least we actually had a reason to take more vehicles than everyone else in 7th.)

sadly I'm given the distinct impression from the IH chapter tactics review, that the chapter was designed by FANS of Smashfether.

White Scars. They're generally cool dudes who embrace noble pursuits and have a remarkably complex worldview (for Astartes). The Khan himself was very Reasonable Marine and in many cases acts as the voice of the reader as he points out the obvious flaws in the Emperor's plan for humanity.

In both HH and 40k, they're also shown to be less likely to ponder the wonders of their superior transhumanity relative to the 'frail mortals' around them. This means that as a legion, and now a chapter, they usually remember that they exist to fight -for- humanity, and not to demonstrate how super cool and glorious they are. I like that in their HH works, they never really condescend to baseline humans in their midst. They surely won't sugarcoat anything as they don't believe in encouraging people to 'go soft', but they don't assume that baseline humans have nothing of value to offer beyond serfdom.

If I ever get around to a SM army, it'll be Scars.

little things like the relic axe and the way they talked about it etc. the Iron hands always struck me as a more "shooty chapter". it's hard to put into words as it was just more a "feeling"

I feel like the only reason we got the Axe on our relics (pun intended) is that it's the only relic that they could potentially actually adapt:
The Mindforge Stave is a weapon for Librarians, but doesn't have a regular-weapon equivalent: It's basically a Thunder Hammer. (I suppose it could swap out for a Force Stave, but that's nor really fitting considering its damage output.)
The Betrayer's Bane is just a Combi-Melta that can fire unlimited times, which... Not a big deal anymore. They could have adapted it to do something different, but why bother?
The Ironstone would be a really cool relic, offering regeneration buffs to friendly tanks, but they didn't want to go that route.
The Tempered Helm overlaps with another chapter's unique relic.
The Gorgon's Chain would have to be another Shield Eternal knockoff, doesn't have an item to replace, and there isn't a good swap for a preexisting item. (They could have just made it a 3+ invuln and 5+ FNP to replace the wearer's 6+ FNP, but again - Why bother, when most players that want a tanky Captain will just go for the Shield Eternal? Overlapping relics are generally just a bad idea, since they run the risk of invalidating each other.)

Ultramarines.

Because nearly the entire playerbase doesn't understand why they are actually noteworthy.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Well, at least you didn't have your first founding status revoked like some other unfortunate chapters did long ago.

I'm not entirely sure the rainbow warriors are even a canon chapter at this point.

Because they're supposed to be [according to MW] the model Astartes that every single other chapter [ Except for those borderline renegade Space Wolves] wishes they could be, despite needing another chapter's help to make any meaningful contribution to the Imperium?

I've always been fond of the Aurora Chapter.

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Aurora_Chapter

Lovely colour scheme, and they have a theme that other "main" Chapters don't seem to really cover at present... they're big on their tanks. Admittedly this does tread on the Imperial Guard's toes a little bit, which might explain why GW don't push any tank-heavy chapters much in the lore overall.

Vigo. Spain.

They are the "By the note guys". They are a Chapter of state-mans. They are not the good guys but the lawfull guys. In a world of special snowflakes and edgy dark lords that just do what they want (And I say this being a Dark Angel player) they are you standard marine.

They are loyal, they are honorable, but at the same time they are rigid, they are hunger for power, even if they believe that power is for the good of the people and prepotent. They are a Chapter of Julius Caesar's.

But maybe this is because I always play paladins and other other kind of "lawfull" guys both good and bad that I can appreciate what Ultramarines are supposed to represent.
And yeah, I ignore MW fluff just like Blood Angels do.
