They look like 'third gender' Catachans. Ugly models, ugh. Maybe, MAYBE, if they were modeled without those atrocious heels...

I really like that they went with the muscled, athletic look. The old Eschers are some of my favourite models ever, but they don’t look very strong. I also think people are getting thrown off by the platform shoes, it makes their legs look incredible long. And the paint job is by one of GWs painters who posts in FB, he has a very particular style that many people dislike.

Tend to agree. They look fine to me. They're not supposed to be pin-up girls. They're supposed to be gangers hardened by a life of relentless bloodshed. They should look like athletes. Angry, angry, goth athletes.

They don't look hardened up athletes though.... they look fat and dumpy and out of shape.

I hope GW recasts the old stuff and makes them available id much rather buy and use those.

Through different lenses, yes. And probably some bias.
I'm not gonna lie, the Escher models are exactly what warrior women should be - visibly strong, visibly female. Props to GW for nailing this the first time around, I expect sisters of battle will follow this approach as well.
The escher will also look starkly different in contrast to Dark Eldar female wyches; and thats a good thing.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Agreed. The whole "OK, women can be action stars now, but they still need to look like ballerinas or strippers" thing in Hollywood seems to have seriously warped people's perceptions about what a strong, well-muscled woman actually looks like.

Another design choice I'm digging - the look of the close combat weapons.

Goliath have hefty, brutal looking weapons. Never mind skill, even a glancing blow will do the damage.

Escher? Much finer blades. Pointy and sharp looking. Such weapons typically suit a more precise fighter, one who looks for an opening before sticking the blade in.

Very nice, and I hope it's something that's followed up in the other Gangs.

I really don't understand the whole "chunky," or "fat" claims some people are making. These look like well-muscled, in-shape women (as an Amazonian hive ganger should be). I'm really happy GW didn't do the whole rail-thin, gigantic breasted, space stripper look for them- which tends to be standard MO for a lot of miniature companies. I think the models match the description of an Escher wonderfully - especially for modular models, and am very excited to paint some up.

If the other gangs look even nearly as good as the Eschers and the Goliaths I'm going to be one happy dude.

@realistic look

When was Necromunda or its precursor Confrontation ever about 'realistic proportions' or a 21st century feminine look or what some organisations rate as Miss XY beauty queens?

Necromunda always had bats***-crazy designs - with a bit of 2000AD, Tank Girl and 80s cyberpunk mixed in - and its own exaggerated style.

I mean Infinity just plundered Masamue Shirow's Intron Depot books and some other 80s japanese classics (I like Infinity but let's be honest). For Necromunda Blanche, Goodwin and Gibbons (among others) created a quite new and unique look. And what they came up with never focussed on being 'well proportioned' or fitting real world aestethics. Ian Miller's early Scavvy designs and Confrontation's art didn't either. It was always grotesque, savage and otherworldly and not trying to appeal to today's sick striving for conformity with everything visual. From mutations, cybernetics, hair styles, body shapes to its weaponry Necromunda is not 'DIN-normed' or standardized.

Inquisimunda modelling projects and the Blanchitsu article series got it right in my opinion and show that the urban 40k universe is a sprawling, anarchic place with a surprise behind every corner. The new models, now in plastic, are just a basis for creating your own gangs. There is no right or wrong imo. If you want cyberlegs add Skitari bits, if you want bigger axes use some Ork bits. There will be a lot of conversion potential.

Which is one of the main appeals of Necromunda as a game.

With maybe 15 absolute tops in your Gang, it's not out of the question for every model to be a conversion.

And there's no real need to stick to the production models for the base of the miniature.

All I'd ask is that the guns and weapons and that are the 'right' ones - so I can easily tell a Stubber from an Autopistol, and be confident it's a Laspistol, not a Plasma Pistol. But as for whatever is carrying it? Knock yourself out!

Other recommended standards are of course available. Mad Doc Grotsnik Industries does not a claim any benchmark here. You do what you do, you crazy kids!

Well some do look "fat" "chunky" "squished" I assumed the pictures we see are oddly squished and give a wrong proportion on the models because they seem at odd to the first models we saw earlier were particularly the torso area and legs did not look to be "heroically" proportioned but more "realistic".

If they are indeed squished on the vertical axis I am really not interested in them even the old sculpts were "realistically" proportioned.

Speaking of disappointment, I am really disappointed on the dismissal of valid comments because they are "sexist" (in one form or another) by some posters, the models proportions are off in these later photos and an untrained eye will catch them and signal the brain something is wrong because it is wrong, torso is squished legs are short, both are wider than they should be, it does not mean the brain will express such irregularities in an essay describing proportion ratios, it will simply say in what ways it looks odd.

I want to know what they are. Some of these things look like industrial tools turned into makeshift weapons (similar to the mining tools turned into weapons by the Genestealer Cults). Like air-powered nail cannons and gak like that. As long as the Goliaths can still get regular weapons. That is. I've got Goliaths with everything from Meltaguns to Shotguns to scratch-built Autocannons. I'd hate to find them invalidated.

Well ascription of motive is the easiest form of ad hominem.

X doesn't like Y? X must be sexist. Once you've said that it's no longer about what X said, because now X has to defend that they're not sexist.

They look fat and ugly.

I want atleast a little bit of sex appeal on my eschers.

In the new artwork they look great though.

The last picture showing them one on the board looked abit better though.

Probably camera angle plays a part.

All this junk about fat and chunky...is 4chan leaking again? Personally I really like everything here. I wasn't bothered about it when it was first announced, but now I'm really excited for the game. I just hope it is up for pre-order this weekend so I can order it and the new Shadespire expansions together.

I dont know what gyms you guys train at but the ones I attend the women who are serious about weifght training being strong/athelietc... look nothing like these models lol. These have more of the look id expect to see from a fat/lazy/butch lesbian at a gay rights march. The Women who are in good physical shape who do a lot of training - its there female traits that become more prominent - Hips/thighs/glutes and their mid sections remain small as does most of their upper body since they dont have as much muscle potential in regions like the arms/shoulders as a male and obviously their skeletal structure remains feminine...

Look how big their waists are... they need to be brought in the accentuate the hips... there seems to be a lack of shapelyness to the thighs that would be there for someone who is very physically active, i think the big bulky boots throw of the shape even more... The weapon designs are pretty uninspired too tbh.

@Warhams-77 As good as that artwork is, honestly some of them look like pictures of cross dressers a good artist who doesnt have any foundations in female anatomy is what I see there.

I dont get how you guys can not think this aesthetic is not a step backwards from the originals.

I think there's a line between demanding sex appeal and visual aesthetics one likes/is inspired by.

And its a freaking hazy line thats more of a wobble that's probably, honestly, not worth trying to actually pin down to specifics.

Let those who like them like them; let those who don't don't and let those who want to argue sexism take it to another thread I think - otherwise we are going to get derailed fast.

Well moustaches, especially curly and beards are really underrepresented, if you ask me as is a good athletic shape, toned but not exaggerated.

From all these comments only one is clearly a demand for sexy models (still a valid demand) the others describe models that look off the best they can.
