Didn't see this get mentioned but saw it at Gen Con.
Privateer Press is going the limited edition route and started a subscription based boutique site.
https://www.mini-crate.com/
You get a 30 day window to subscribe to next months figure. After that it will no longer be available.
The figures are basically pin-up versions of their existing models.
First up is the Swamp Siren which is a pin-up of the Swamp Horror.
If you commit to a six month subscription you get a seven figure free which is currently a pin-up version Gorman Di Wulfe
Might give the siren a try, but have no interest in the Di Wulfe model.

Whew! Privateer have gone bust now too? >_>
Interesting idea, I've no interest in that particular style of mini but with a different theme I'd definitely consider it.

I hate Privateer Press pinups. There never have any hot guy. Also still waiting for the first official male model with seduction. Come on PP you can do better.

They do need to do some gender swaps of female characters as male beefcakes. Madelyn CorBro, Lanyssa Muscyl, etc.

You weren't satisfied with the Trollkin kilt lifter? For shame.
I'd consider it if I had some sort of idea of what to expect. Swamp Siren is pretty cool, but not impressed with the sheep.
Still need to get that Megaman inspired Convergence figure...

I think the concept art they showed for potential upcoming minicrates had some beefcake in it.
Overall, I would skip on this because it's too much for one figure that is basically a blind buy and secondly, shipping costs to my country every month for 1 figure would make the price even stupider.

Yeah but they aren't mentioned explicitly in the Steamroller rules as miniatures that I have every right to put on the table during a tournament .

Yeah... I didn't even think it was trying to reference that. I mean, it's mostly just lots of hypermasculine aesthetic, with a gremlin. Not really seeing it.

Really curious to see if this business model works for PP, but that Gorman model is awful, so I hope they get some better models in the line up sooner rather than later.

I missed it because I didn't notice the arrows!
With a sleeveless shirt with a very wide v-neck that goes down almost to his crotch and some pants that are actually just sleeves for the legs, and which shows he wears some very revealing bikini?
One can dream I guess . PP would never do that, and doubly never for a “surprise” model. Some of the people that have bought it without knowing would be so, so outraged…
Oh but not just girls, man. Not just girls! *wink* *winkwink*

Hey, not like they've been coming up aces with hot chick pinups.
The crate business model is about to go all fidget spinnery. But good luck to them. Those minis might fetch a pretty penny on eBay for late comers.

I hope it fails. If somebody wants to buy your models, let them buy your models. Don't make them preorder exclusives and don't demand they buy six unrelated models without even telling them what they are to get the one they want.

Yeah, looks like the idea is PP wants to have a more reliable income from subscribers. It's... not terrible, but for instance one okay mini and one that no one seems interested in doesn't represent a fantastic value.
Mostly just feels like one more LE gimmick to get people to drop cash rather than waiting, which is smart if it works. I certainly know that my gaming purchases are almost all either because of a good price or a LE thing, since I'm fine waiting on a better price over wanting to buy the newest toy. These sculpts, however, aren't doing anything for me.

I understand your frustration. Still, some people like blind purchases and mystery boxes, so I can see this sales model appealing to a portion of the market. Just not with the current offering of models. Again, that Gorman.

They do allow you to cancel your subscription for the following month if you do it before the 19th of the month. I'm probably going to get the Siren and then cancel. So go in for a fig you like and then cancel.
It does seem out of the blue and feels a bit like PP is starting to throw things at the wall and see what sticks.
I'm kicking myself because I found out about this from a card they were handing out at Gen Con and there were three figs on it. The third was the crossbow girl shown in silhouette. Sadly I threw the card into the recycle bin when cleaning up this weekend >,<

Same here. Their quoted reason for doing it was to give a creative outlet to their sculptors - but I don't see why they couldn't have done it without making them "super-limited buy now buy now buy now" minis. It's doubly a shame because before this PP was one of the very few mini companies that did exclusives right - making them available on their website, for all who are interested, several times a year during trade shows and whatnot.
But as long as they are ( imo rather poorly done) pin-ups I don't really care. But the second some cool alt-sculpt of something shows up I'm gonna be pissed.

A lot of it is just a matter of not committing to keeping them in stock long term.
Also, they're a west coast company and seem to get caught up in west coast business models like the pin thing and now the subscriptions prize box thing.
Ultimately, its a largely inconsequential thing that's great for the kind of people its targeting and superfluous for the crowd focused on the game itself. It's not my thing but it'll be cool to see what people do with the models.

Man it's hard to drop the cash on a 6 month subscription sight-unseen. Especially when the bonus figure depicts a pajama party. I really like their alternate models but only the ones that I can take at least a little seriously on the table, like Reinholt or that siren. I would have LOVED a new take on Gorman but not in a sheep costume.
