Yeah, this is quite likely the thing that will bring me back in - though I am still pretty much done with WH40K, and would need to be paid a lot of money to play Age of Sigmar. The Auld Grump
The more you repeat this in each thread you post in the more you look like an obsessed bitter ex. I just read the same thing posted by you today as part of your larger rant in the KoW Vanguard thread. Don't like whichever/all GW games, don't play them. That's fine. Cool. No problem. But FFS please stop going on and on about it at every opportunity in unrelated threads. No-one actually cares.
That is because I am a bitter ex - Warhammer Fantasy Battle was what got me into fantasy miniatures gaming, while I had played the old TSR Chainmail, it was Warhammer that made the game live for me.
That is added to the fact that the original release of AoS really was that poor.
And, it really would take somebody offering to pay me a lot of money to play AoS - so are you offering? If not, then I will continue whinging - it makes me feel just a bit better about the world.
But I will point out that my reply in the Vanguard thread was the result of somebody threadcrapping in a non-GW thread. I was replying to the 'unrelated thread' you are mumping about. Go mump at that person, eh? If somebody is going to pop up in a non-GW thread and start caroling the glories of GW, I will react.
***
I am actually saying in this thread that I am looking at playing a new GW game for the first time in a very long while. What I have seen of the background for Necromunda actually makes me very hopeful - for the first time in more than a decade.
It will not be the same as the old game - and it does not need to be - as long as it is a good set of rules, with a decent set of campaign rules, I will be happy.
I have not even been complaining about the changes to the miniatures aesthetic for the new version - again, as long as the minis fit the setting, I will be happy. And so far, the aesthetic seems to be doing a really nice job of bringing back the old flavor - and look like a whole lot less hassle to modify than the old metal minis.
Saying I am not complaining is, in this case, damning with faint praise - I like the new models. I like them more than the metals they are replacing.
New aesthetic or not, I would be happy to see all the gangs getting new minis.
What I have seen of the rules look decent.
Not so happy about the split between Underhive and Gang War - I would have rathered a single rules book, but it is what it is, and I can understand their reasoning. (And the fact that the game designers and studio actually did explain their reasoning helped.)
Even if I end up not liking the game, as long as the rules are decent, and seem like an honest attempt, then I will be happy.
I do not have to like a rules set to say whether it is a decent rules set - there are perfectly fine games that I have no interest in playing, and there are some horribly written rules that I enjoy a good deal.
I will be ecstatic if the rules end up being both an honest attempt and rules that I like. I will celebrate that ecstasy by running a campaign - and I have already started working on terrain for just such a celebration.
I am not assuming failure, at this point, the new Necromunda is showing every sign of being an honest attempt.
So, I am hopeful, and assuming that they will produce something worthwhile, and putting work into that assumption.

I am very tempted by this, the small warbands required and variety make it appealing... but I am forced to hold back, knowing I will likely never get around to painting anything... I look forward to hearing whether or not this plays as well as the original though, never tried it, but always heard good things about Necromunda.
Does anyone know the size dimensions of those new wall sections?
I'm interested in using them in addition to some of the old ones to make some multi level buildings.
How do the new figures stack up with Vic's female figures? Do we have a line on Victoria's figures sizing up with these new Eshers?
Would like to add head options, and weapons load outs when the time comes, and need to find out their scale.

H.B.M.C. wrote: Wait, how much area do the tiles in the box cover?
I was thinking of getting two boxes (makes more sense than buying extra terrain/gangs).
It is 9 tiles. They are the same size as zone mortalis tiles so two boxes would give you a 6x3 feet playing area.
So each tile is 1' square? In that case two boxes would let you do a 4' by 4' table with two tiles left over. That was the original Necromunda play area.

I'd recommend any of them except outlander. And I'd warn people salvation is about random dude surviving the underhive not random hero.
If you're looking for GW epic, back from the dead may work. Probably the most serious of the lot. The rest are closer to action movie than epic, with the Kal Jerico books being that nice level of self aware that you can see the author poking fun without the characters turning to the screen and saying how funny the joke was. Most of the rest are solid books and I'd still read a sequel to fleshworks without a second thought.

As mentioned in the other thread, I'd warn people about not getting either Salvation or Fleshworks, both are horrible pieces of gak in my opinion. The latter in particular is a generic cyberpunk story with familiar factions jammed in to make it feel somewhat like it belongs in the setting.
Outlander was okay, but a tad too predictable with the build up and outcome.

I saw a post by someone, either here or on facebook, discussing terrain for Necromunda. They posted a link to a company that did laser cut MDF terrain, who had a large selection of multilevel industrial stuff that would work great for Necromunda.
Of course I lost the link and was wondering if someone remembered it? My only clue other than the large selection they had, was they offered it in a several different packages, and one of the things they had was a really big (4-5 level tall) crane model.
Sound familiar to anyone?

Gang War is packed with further ways to customise your gang during a campaign, including no fewer than 8 skill sets. Each gang has a different set of Primary and Secondary skills - we think that Agility abilities suit fast-moving Escher gangs perfectly.

Preview copies arrive in shops today, a first unboxing (found by Anthony, Yaktribe.org)
Translation (german, austrian actually): He isn't offering much new info in the video except maybe his comments about the product quality: Sturdy tactic cards, tiles and scenery sprues. All sprues have crisp detail, the infantry ones are nothing short of GW's modern multipart kits. It is not board game plastic or of reduced quality. The video's low defintion (360p) made it hard to get much info out of the rulebook. The three leaflets at the beginning of the video were quickstart rules with a mission and two teaser flyers with the game's release date etc. These are surprisingly good quality dice. The cardboard markers were easy to remove. There may have been a few interesting things in the book. I will give it a second look later.

Honestly the only thing that's keeping me from jumping on this is the lingering fear that by the time I'm done painting it all it won't be played at the local GW store.
That and redemptionists. I'm not budging until I know what I can do with redemptionists.

Ttcombat do similar stuff along with a whacking great crane, plenty of options out there and I would be suprised if one is much better than another.

Just got my order from Promethium forge today. They're out of the kick starter phase and now taking orders on their website. People in North America are probably better off going there.
I haven't put anything together, but I did spray a piece with some black primer and was pleased to see that the design details are still visible through it. I was worried that painting it would mess up these details. I'm gonna spray some metallic paints with an airbrush tomorrow to see how it looks.

I have a £100 set f4om wargamesterrain, and combining it with a few old Necromunda bulkheads I have made 7 decent sized buildings, 3 3"x3" smaller sized shacks and gone up either 2 or even 3 floors on the others. They stack well, have more than enough barricades and walkways to link them. I got mine for £75 plus £10 postage, which I think was the right amount.
I also have a Sector 1 from TTCombat. For £43 it's a bargain, but won't give you enough blocking terrain in itself imo. Get that and combine it with a second, maybe different set however, and you can easily cover a 3x3 board and have enough variation in height to make for an interesting game.

So each gang is 5 guy on a single sprue only, and no extra weapon sprue. Ouch....
They also give you a crap ton of gang's common weapon, like escher lasgun, so less weapons variety and if you want the other common weapon for the team, nope.

Went to GW today and got a look at everything in the box.
Miniatures:
The Goliaths and Eschers look great. As the post above me says, it is a sprue of 5 doubled up, but we expected that and nothing in the pictures has hidden that. It does mean you get two of the things that might be more rare (shock whip, combi-needler, etc.) but there's plenty of basic weaponry there.
I expect additional weapon sprues will come allowing for more mundane weapons, whereas the general plastics will cover the things unique to each Gang (don't think for a second that Escher and Goliaths will be the only gang getting unique weapons!).
The Terrain:
Not as big as I'd thought. Kinda makes you see why the boxed barricade/objective set comes with two sprues. Any less and it'd be a bit like GW's old 40K scatter terrain pack with the tank traps (ie. a bit thin on the ground!).
Didn't get the greatest look at the tiles, but still they looked great.
Those bundles of grenades/meltas are actually traps. I thought they were insets for the crates for different types of loot, but they have an ingame use beyond aesthetics.
The Rules:
I did get to spend a bit of time flicking through the rule book. It's a very grey book, as the background is grey and the artwork is all grey-scale. Looks very Necromunda-y, and the artwork is good.
The artwork, sadly though, is very limited. It's all Escher/Goliaths and nothing in between. Outside of fluff descriptions there is nothing in there for the other major gangs. No minis (not that I expected any) and no new sketches. Reminds me of a GW Codex where there are new units that don't get art/photos because the Codex comes out before the miniature and GW is paranoid about showing off new stuff.
There's a nice big section full of all the universal weapon rules, and a big armoury as well. Reminded me a lot of the 40KRPGs. Good stuff.
Then two big sections on the two gangs, and a scenario section which has specific tile layouts.
Absolutely NO campaign stuff in there from what I could see. Zip. Zero. Zilch. It does make the Gang War book feel very much like Day 1 DLC but I do think this is case of what they could fit into a box and keep it at BB prices. Any more and the book would be heavier, thicker and therefore take up more room and (cumulatively) cost more to ship. This is a compromise.

In one unboxing it was said that the rulebook doesnt even have the full gang options for the 2 gangs, you need to buy Gang War to actually have the full gang lists for (only) esher and goliath.
I wonder if GW will ever release a compilation of the rulebooks otherwise you are going to have to take 2+ books to every game session just for the rules.

Didn't look at the tiles?! Who are you and what have you done with our H.B.M.C.?!!
Sounds like this is exactly what we were expecting then, a damn good starter set, but you'll need the add-ones to get the full experience. I'll be interested to see if they have more varied artwork and fluff in the gang war book.

Mighty Ape did an unboxing, and showed off a bit of the Gang War book.
What I gathered from the video...
There are more skill types:
Agility
Brawn (taking over from Muscle)
Combat
Cunning (taking over from Stealth)
Ferocity
Leadership
Shooting
Savant (taking over from Techno)
The Injury Chart is quite different. It's a D66 roll, but it happens when you go OoA.
11 - Lesson Learned - Recovery (which means you're alive but miss the next game or something - can't quite make it out) and gain XP.
12-26 - Out Cold - Misses the rest of the battle... and something I can't make out.
31-45 - Grievous Wound - Into Recovery.
46 - Humiliated.
51 - Head Injury
52 - Eye Injury
53 - Hand Injury
54 - Hobbled
55 - Spinal Injury
56 - Enfeebled
61-65 - Critical Injury (need medical attention otherwise dead).
66 - Memorable Death - Dead, and the person who killed you gets XP.
How is XP gained? Not sure, but it's no longer 'levels'. You spend XP to get things. Eg 12 XP for +1W, or 3 XP for +1Int.
There are territories as you'd expect, and most of the old ones make a return (no Slag Pile!). Chem-Pit, Settlement, Mine Workings, Tunnel Network, Vent Network (YAY!), Drinking Hole, Guilder Contact, Friendly Doc, Workshop, Gambling Den, Spore Cave. You can send captured gangers to the mines to work, or sell them to Guilder Contacts. Settlements automatically generate free Juves!!! Or you can get 30 Creds. Your choice.
Rarity on the trading post is a value (eg. Power Sword, Rarity 9) that you test against to find stuff. The Combat Shotgun has two types of ammo that use the flamer template.
No gang rules I suppose? Wonder how they're going to handle the rules for those? They can't put them all in a book to release with the first gang, because it would go against their policies not to release art and photos before models... they can't put out a book for each gang, because that would be overkill. Online and in-box only until they're all released? That would be boring.
