What was even the price of last years calendar? For some reason I think it was either £70 or £90 but I don't know if i'm thinking of something else. Was there a foil one last year too?

I ordered it anyway just incase, there's a week before release so there's time to cancel if i change my mind in that time. Wish there was at least one of the prints shown to give an idea of them, last year had the movie-style poster stuff which was kinda cool, but I'd prefer just the art itself.

Ah, so they're doing the movie poster thing again. Not sure what to think about that. A few of them seemed alright last time, but stuff like that Daughter of Khaine band poster there just seems like it takes away from the art really.

BL have answered my question of a book on offer for the app.

The Talon Of Horus is on offer this week, by ADB.
Only £8, one I was going to grab I think anyway.

That Horus Heresy map looks great, but...it seems not quite as good as the Sabbat Crusade map? The Sabbat seems like it was was very long and had plenty of extra information on it too.

With the return of Bloodquest and Daemonifuge I really hope Darkblade is up soon.

It say part 1, but IIRC book 1 of the original series was under 100 pages and this is 250. Does anyone know if it includes all 3 parts (like Daemonfuge did) or just book 1?

I just realized - This years Black Library Advent calendar is £50, but last years was £90. I'm wondering why that could be? Last years did all sell and it doesn't seem very much like GW to lower the price of something, especially not almost half.

New episode of Calgar comic book is much better than a first one. It also reveals a secret (or at least one I did not know) about Marneus.

Perhaps they are testing the waters for making it a larger print run. Even now its very heavily limited in number yet if they find a sweet spot financially it could become a main thing. Heck they already give away lots of art of that size with store openings each year.

Its been almost a year now since any new Siege of Terra novels has been announced. Weird they release 3 in 1 year then nothing the next.

Prior to the delays I’d have assumed that 3, 3 & 2 books a year was the plan (ignoring novellas).
Likely it’d be two next year and three the one after if there were to be changes there. The novella being delayed I assume means the follow on ones would each be delayed too..

Not to dwell on it too much, but Aaron spoke on Twitter lately about his struggles with his mental health. I wouldn't be surprised if things have been delayed somewhat to give him time to recover.

I think it's more down to Covid throwing everything in dissaray and the Siege being a bit lost in the shuffle.

For those who might be interested the CD versions of both Realmslayer audio dramas are on "last chance to buy" on the GW UK website. Whilst there is still likely stock in regional local stores, it does mean that if you want them you might want to get it sooner rather than later. Note I've on reason to think that GW will stop selling this story digitally; its purely the physical CD version that is likely reaching the end of its stocks.

The hardback print edition of Realmslayer is also on last-chance as well along with The Horus Heresy Audio Collection; Saga of the Beast audio, Attack of the Necron and City of lifestone cds.

I imagine covid would expediate the novels if anything. The authors are all sitting at home doing nothing, so are the cover artists. All work can be done via home. GW needs revenue now from things that aren't store-related as well so they should be keen on releasing new novels

Just because they’re at home doesn’t mean they have more time though.
Loss of childcare, or family all around at home too. All things can be disruptive to the process.
Maybe just getting out and about is something that helps some to be able to write better etc.
hard to say.

Et In Arcadia Ego

Canterbury

so this years advent tales :

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/11/18/introducing-the-twelve-tales-of-christmas/

6 40k, 3 AOS and 3 HH ones -- released every even numbered day 2nd -24th of December.

Half the tales hail from the 41st Millennium, and include Imperial, Chaos, and xenos-themed stories. Join an Imperial Assassin on a dangerous mission, and witness a brush with fame for Ciaphas Cain that becomes a brush with death. Experience a tale of the Emperor’s Will with an interesting twist, and check in with the sons of Fenris. Discover a new story about Ctesias, acolyte of the infamous Ahriman, then see the galaxy from a greenskin perspective.

In the three stories from the Mortal Realms, you’ll take to the skies in a tale of the Kharadron Overlords, discover a dread secret in the company of Freeguild soldiers, and see what Gotrek Gurnisson has been up to. Killing things and drinking ale, probably.

Three Horus Heresy stories complete the collection, set across the length and breadth of the war. Check in with Perturabo after the Battle of Phall, see what life is like for surviving Imperial Knights who call Mars home, and root out treachery in the Jovian shipyards with Amendera Kendel.

You’ll notice that the cover for the final story isn’t available yet – we can reveal that it’s called ‘The Lightning Hall’ and it’s by Horus Heresy veteran Graham McNeill. Keep an eye out for the cover as we get closer to Christmas – think of it as a mini Christmas present!

You’ll be able to buy each of these stories individually, and if you want to read all 12, you can subscribe to get them added to your account as soon as they’re released – and you get all 12 for the price of 10!

Personally the HH ones sounds the most interesting -- although if Mr Haley's tale is indeed the BIG CONVERSATION a'twixt Guilliman and the Emperor after the former's return then that's confirmed buy.

Not too tempted by the AOS stories -- the non continuation of the AOS stories I was invested in has killed ones enthusiasm a tad and -- from a casual viewers perspective -- there appears to be almost too much.... randomness ..? not sure that's quite the right term here -- with regards to the setting and stories.

It's almost so large and unconnected that the tales lose impact somewhat.

Possibly.

Are the AOS Gotrek stories good -- the audio return was..... okay, few really good/great moments... few.. so-so ones --- I certainly enjoyed the old world stories, although I was very annoyed that Mr Long never got to finish off his particular story arc.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Gotrek shorts are decent - the Neverspike is perhaps a bit lackluster because its more of a paired intro to the second audio novel. The Novella is great fun. I do think GW could even the odds though 9 stories for 40K and 3 for AoS is a bit unfair (yes yes I know 30K isn't 40K but its the same darn sci-fi setting stuff). Personally I'd have done 3 30K 3 40K 3 AoS 1 Bloodbowl; 1 Necromunda and 1 Warcry.

I think we could do with less HH at this point, more variety would be good. But as is, I no longer buy these bundles unless it features a story by Rachel Harrison or Danie Ware's Sororitas, otherwise I'll patiently wait for them to get reprinted in an anthology somewhere along the line.

In other news, happy to have secured a copy of the Ravenor reprint before some good for nothing scalper did, will make for an awesome anniversary gift.

From AD-B's Facebook:

Today's Tedious Rumination: One of the strangest elements of the Siege of Terra series is Expectation.

Unshockingly, the writing gang has discussed what readers want to see, what they're expecting to see, and what (we hope) we can show that they didn't know they wanted to see.

Some readers resent normal human characters getting airtime in the Siege because, I quote, "Shut up, this is the time for gods."

Others aren't that interested in the Primarchs' internal reasoning and care more about the reality & immersion of living through that insane conflict.

You can't achieve a universal balance with this. It's one of those things where everyone in the world lands separately, scattered across a spectrum.

How much of the macro scale do you show? The global? The metaphysical? How much of the micro scale? The human? The personal?

Smarter folks than me say: Write what feels right. Write the story you want to tell.

That's killer advice.

Not just for megaprojects like the Siege, fusing four decades of beautifully inconsistent (and inconsistently beautiful) lore.

I mean it's good writing advice in general.

This thread was brought to you by the letters A, D, and B.

...and a Saturday afternoon spent reading some intimidatingly great WIPs from someone else's Siege of Terra novel.

I bought the last B/W reprint of Lone Wolves. Has some nice panels but wasn't a very good story Imo. Still very pleased that the comic reprints continue.
