I think it'll be the day these books release in stores? So in two weeks?

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. There was certainly a piece of me that wished that he'd get an opportunity to say what might have happened in a hypothetical sequel to Chaos Child one day.

Obviously some of the setting was in flux, but I really liked the Inquisitor trilogy growing up. And it was always nice to see a book in a setting where there's a god of pleasure in which people even have sex sometimes!

RIP and best wishes to his family. He did a lot to establish the feel for what 40k is and should be appreciated for that.

Sad day, but 40K is a far better universe for his contributions.

I'm very confused by the stores they chose for the release of the book.
Every North American store, 15 stores across NZ and AUS, 8 in the UK and only 3 on mainland Europe; two of which are in Switzerland.
I assume they prioritise English-speaking countries, but it seems very random. Maybe they want to release the French and German translations later, but why Switzerland then?

Seems an attempt to frustrate scalpers.

Not a great attempt I’ll freely grant you.

It's an anti-scalper move for sure, but also a massive middle finger to fans as a whole by not releasing the regular edition alongside it and drawing it out further.

Pretty sure the regular edition has already been released - at least in English - as I bought a copy in my local GW last weekend.

Also, a question, given how useless the store finder was for a quick bit of research - roughly how many GW stores are there in the US?

Huh, I thought that was an overpriced limited edition as well, thanks for the correction.

No worries, BrookM - if you thought the price seemed high, it's probably because it's two hardbacks in a trenchcoat - sorry, a slip-cover.

Again though, cheers, had a mad dash across the usual online stores and found one that still had it in stock, because chances are the wait for the softback is going to be a long one.

Frustrating scalpers by making almost a whole continent dependent on them is quite the big brain move.
I guess Swiss resellers will be making bank.

Depends on the staff. And how their monthlies are looking. If all is good? One Per Customer when you’re actually seeing the customer isn’t an inherently bad idea.

Feels like another studied insult to their home market, though - "Only 7 stores in the UK, plus 1 in Ireland, can get copies, but every Warhammer store in North America can get copies."

And just days after I ordered one elsewhere..

Makes you wonder what they'll do with those signed copies they sent everywhere.

Hahaha

Once again proving that the undignified scrum they encourage with every release is a choice.

It's more likely that the Print on Demand service GW uses requires a threshold of orders to be viable/profitable. So GW has to estimate demand and if they think a title won't hit that threshold, the don't use it.
At the same time the also likely don't want too many products under "print on demand/cast on demand" because that can lead to a mounting issue of cashflow/product flow issues. It can also spike complaints and customer support upkeep if you've a lot of stuff outstanding.

Then there's the fact that this was originally just a signed book release that clearly showed a vastly bigger cry for print copies; so GW has likely adapted to that to provide both as print on demand - which is pretty generous as they could have just done the regular on demand and kept the deluxe on a limited run

Personally I hope they get LOADS of orders. As GW keeps stuff in house they've a fantastic selection of backpublications and I'd love to see them do more. The Inferno books I got are great prints of something that I never got at the time and which are fantastic to now own. I'd love to see them do it for even more books.
