Shaking out my bits box, I have an extra set of Primaris legs and torso. If I were to put Custodes arms, weapons, shoulder pads, and helmet on this, do you think it would pass as a custodes?

That is entirely up to you. Personally, I wouldn't think so without a lot of work. But if you like it, go for it.

Not really. It'd be noticeably too small for its arms and the back would be odd (Custodes don't have backpacks, so you'd have to build something to put there).

If you really wanted to try and make a Custodian model out of a Primaris model I'd suggest trying to put together some kind of jump unit (in line with the presence of Custodians with jump packs in at least one novel I can remember) with lighter armour. Greenstuff extra detail on, build a jump pack based on the streamlined Mk.IV single-thruster design, and if you try using smaller pauldrons the arms might be useable.

I think it would be fine with a little work. Custodes and Primaris are almost the exact same size so arms should work fine on primaris bodies. Just do a little work on the back area to cover up where the backpack would normally go.

I may even try this myself!

Also thought you might try using Stormcast with custodes bits.

I've done the whole "stormcast" thing. It works quire well. I bought a bunch of the starter set Stormcast Liberators for $1.50 each. They look great with a Custodes helmets and weapons.

If I were to convert a Primaris, I think I'd cover up the back with the "cape" bit meant for the Custodes Shield captain.

I thought stormcast might work! I had to do a double take recently when they released the new stormcast warhammmer quest model as I wasn’t sure if he was stormcast or custodes lol.

Actually, Custodes are noticeably larger than Primaris Marines. Valoris is larger than an Aggressor.
