Hi,

Someone at the shop was talking about a conversion kit for chimeras to turn them into hellhounds. I've looked all over google, and all I can find is people converting them with WWII kits and such. Is there a kit that makes it look like a hellhound that I can buy from somewhere? My modelling skills are not that great.

only this one:

but you get a full chimera with it & is loads more expensive than just buying the gw standard hellhound kit.
You could try 3rd party resin sellers. I've just looked through my regular ones but couldn't anything :(

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I already have 3 chimeras. I guess I'll just have to buy the GW hellhounds later on in the year.

How glued up are your chimeras? If the turret is still loose you could get a second turret with flamer type nozzles rather than a multilaser. Also if youre not too attached to the hull lasguns trim them down to look like viewing posts and add magnets to overlay drop tank type fuel storage. The combo of flamer turret and obvious fuel tanks should be enough for people to take it as a hellhound and the magnetized bits would let you run it as a chimera whenever you wanted.

Flinty, which fuel tank would be good for this? Also, I'd like some tubing of some kind comming out of the holes.

I have a Chimera that only has the tracks and the front and lower part built. So, there's plenty of room.

The tanks that come on the upgrade sprue would probably do, but you'd probably want a few just to mount along the normal chimeras chassis. Alternatively if you can find a chunky marker pen that would probably work as an elongated fuel tank to mount on top of the tank.

Tubing wise, you could make a simple GS sausage, or if you want something a bit more macro take a look at these things

If you search around you can get them for just a couple of pounds.

Which upgrade sprue has the fuel tank? I don't think I have anything like that.

Hmm. Looks like it just comes with the Basilisk kit these days. Pity as it's a cornucopia of amazing bits for vehicles and infantry kits.

Just so we're clear, the "upgrade sprue" that Flinty is talking about is the Imperial Guard Tank Upgrade Sprue.

It comes with the Basilisk kit because it has the new frame for the Chimera hull:

Note what it's missing? A hull mounted weapon.

Here's the cannon frames:

Still no hull mounted weapon!

Here it is! You get a hull Heavy Flamer only, no Heavy Bolter.

The reason why is that the old Chimera frames included the hull mounted Heavy Bolter while the Upgrade Frame included a Heavy Flamer and when they ran out of the old Chimera frames and started packing in the new frame? They had to included the Upgrade Frame so that you can build a full kit.

Thank you both so much! I do see a fuel tank there on the 3rd sprue. All I have to do now is wait until Basilisks become available, that way The while thing can be GW parts.

Or you can just buy the tank sprue by itself.

I just wanted to clarify what particular frame that Flinty was referring to. It used to be in every single Guard tank kit but for whatever reason, is not anymore.

Oh nice ... hmm, I might need 2 sprues. That tank looks kinda small. If anything, maybe I can make a mold from green stuff..

What I did:

Spoiler:

The picture is when I was first planning it out, I later shortened the drums on a table saw to fit within the chassis and the tubing fits down on the side to hide the open spaces between the drum and the treads.

It's not really hard to use a chimera chassis and do some modifications. You could even add 1/32 scale oil drums. The tubes are just rubber tubing you can get anywhere.

1/32 oil drums:
https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Models-Drums-Jerry-Buckets/dp/B000WNCDLO

The tamiya oil drum kit comes with 3 normal drums and 3 damaged drums. so if you want 4 regular non-damaged drums you'd need to get 2 kits (the damaged ones don't look good on the chimera).

They're too large to be actual normal oil drum size for 40k but they look pretty great on a chimera chassis. You could either put them on the sides to cover the lasgun array ports, or leave the top hatch open and stick them inside. That rubber tubing fits perfectly into the lasgun array circular holes, makes for a great way to re-purpose them and makes it look very different from a chimera.

You could use the tanks from this kit. I had one a fair few years ago and had intended to use the tanks for that purpose, though I never did get around to doing so.

If you wanted to get a bit tricksy with it?

The Munitorum Armoured Container. It could be used to 'represent' an armoured fuel tank welded into the hull of a Chimera.
