No, simple solution is to set it up so the Philippines 'exercises' their legal territorial claims before the Chinese can land replacements. Remember that China lost the legal case for those islands already, and responded by refusing to accept the results of the case. the Filipinos would be merely exercising their legal rights in the wake of a terrible natural disaster.
Technically the Philippines can't claim them as territory either, because the Arbitration Tribunal ruling made clear that many features claimed don't qualify for territorial claims. Most of these islands aren't islands, they don't project any territory, they only fall inside the Philippine EEZ. You would basically need a permanent occupation, because China can just employ freedom of navigation to come back the second you leave. I remember China lost, I also remember they didn't give a feth and then the idiot tough guy Duterte also took a gak on the Arbitration, weakening the Philippine win. The Duterte administration is going to absolutely ridiculous lengths to deny the Chinese are doing anything wrong...

Remember when people had to vote for Trump because Hillary would start a war with Syria?
Now we have a Trumpist here saying that he will have to go to war with North Korea.
So war with a country with no access to atomic weapons was terrible and must be prevented at all costs but war with a nation with nuclear weapons must happen.
The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Good job Trump! Good job...
I have been saying on here for sometime that there will some kind of war in North Korea. I never, ever, felt that Trump had/has any chance of disarming NK through diplomacy, but just has to go through the motions to appease everyone who wants to give diplomacy a chance. As Senator Graham quoted him, “If there will be a war it will be fought over there than over here.”
Continuing the convo in the Jordan Peterson thread that was closed, I have to be honest here I don’t know much about the guy, but I have watched a few YouTube videos and could see whatever point he was making. I can’t figure out though not only why he is controversial, but why anyone really cares what he has to say. Anyone want to sum that up?

He uses dog whistles
Many of his points are not very salient like "All Atheists believe in god."
And many are based on assumption. He also works for PragerU who are the worst video series ever developed that have produced such classics like "Why firemen should be privatized." or "why public schools are terrible, you should go charter."
He constantly knocks on educated liberals and cherry picks discussions.
I used to follow him but I've never really done it seriously. He seems erm... Crazy.

Got a link to either of those classics videos?
I know they have a public sector v. Private sector video that explicitly states fire + police services make sense to be in the public sector, but the main focus of that particular videos ire is the USPS and its inefficiencies. Would be interesting if they had a video that ran counterpoint to this:
Spoiler:
I also know they have a video that touts the sucess of charter schools and how its led to much needed improvements (in some cases) in public schools, now that they have competition. Is this the video you are thinking of:

It's interesting that they always talk about privatizing the USPS, but never the Pentagon, despite the fact there is a clear and unambiguous direction in the constitution to run a postal service and sweet feth-all about a gigantic, permanent standing army.

Russia appoints actor Steven Seagal as 'special representative'
The Russian Foreign Ministry said Saturday that it has appointed American actor Steven Seagal as a “special representative” for Russian-American humanitarian relations.
“The task is to promote the further development of Russian-American relations in the humanitarian sphere, including interaction in the field of culture, art, public and youth exchanges and more,” the ministry said on its official Facebook page, according to a CNN translation of the post.
The ministry also said the position is comparable to that of a United Nations goodwill ambassador.
Seagal became a Russian citizen in 2016. He is reportedly close with Russian President Vladimir Putin and attended his swearing-in ceremony in May.
Ukraine banned Seagal from the country last year, deeming him a national security threat.
The actor has recently faced accusations of rape and sexual assault. He has denied the allegations.
The Los Angeles Police Department reportedly opened an investigation into Seagal over the sexual assault allegations earlier this year.

'cause the kids are down with washed up mediocre 80s action stars facing sexual assault charges right ?
..still, gets him on Fox eh ?

What an American success story - from running over a puppy with a tank to selling our your country as an apologist for a hostile foreign power. Shine on, Steven Seagal.

I'm not for that at all.
If I was planning to defeat NK. I'd spend the money on food I could simply drop onto their country and see i that sorted things out. Imagine starving people suddenly surrounded by more food than they have seen in their lives. That might just topple their government due to lack of interest.
The rewards of tolerance are treachery and betrayal.

No need to be redundant. :p
Their whole deal is that Trump's...everything is supposedly an act, and he's working with Mueller, who's actually investigating Clinton/the Deep State/the 'Globalist' conspiracy/fill it in, something something pizzagate and the left wing is all a child trafficking cult, so on and so forth. The source on that is someone supposedly posting bits and pieces of information from inside Trump's administration, but they can't say too much or it'll reveal their identity. So they have to post vague, cryptic phrases that the conspiracy followers can dissect for hidden meaning, like someone poring over a vague teaser from GW or one of those 'the Boom of Revelations says that the world ends next month on the twenty-eighth' prophecies. Then, when something vaguely related to the 'source's word salad happens, they can feel super-smart for figuring out the code.
It's clearly nuts, so it's obviously going to play well with the Trump crowd.

Not hostile.
Russia is not hostile to the US, just really annoyed. Turning hostile could be a next step in the relation, but it is an escalation both sides are trying to avoid.

Except charter schools are not successful. Neither is police or firemen privatization. The whole idea of someone not arriving even when a house is on fire is hilarious and stupid.
Charter schools are not the be all end all, this assumption that public schools are not good is very nit picky, the people who support these charter schools like devos and several powerful figureheads want to because they see public school as a threat to their money making so of course they will demonize it because it benefits them to do so.
Police and Fire are social institutions they are jobs we need to have. Privatizing them is bad for many reasons and also because nowhere else in the world do we have privatized police and fire.
PragerU is based on assumptions, fighting distinictions and taking things to extremes, they aren't smart, they aren't intelligent often miscontruding or nitpicking quotes or just making things up.
The whole thing behind it is that these things are made up. They are not as bad as people in the documentary says they are. Privitization does not lead to innovation in all cases. Often times it leads to competeing prices or just inflation of price to make money (ALA healthcare)

It's worse than that, if you've watched his more recent films.
Seagal's great strength was always his hand speed, but he doesn't even do that anymore.
He has a stuntman to do the quick hands, and the camera totally zooms in to hide the fact that it ain't Seagal.

He also has a body double to run and climb stairs because he can't do that anymore. He got too fat and has joint problems. He's a very sad thing even amongst washed-up has-been. His mind isn't too great either.
Asherian Command wrote: Neither is police or firemen privatization. The whole idea of someone not arriving even when a house is on fire is hilarious and stupid.
Who said this?
Police and Fire are social institutions they are jobs we need to have. Privatizing them is bad for many reasons and also because nowhere else in the world do we have privatized police and fire.
Again, provide a link where they say that fire and police should be privatized. Far as I can tell, they've never said that. I'd happily concede the point, but you've provided nothing that says that they have called for a privatization of fire and police. I have seen no PragerU video entitled "Why firemen should be privatized".
Except charter schools are not successful
I'd say that's not correct to lump them all as unsuccessful. Some are, some aren't. Same as public schools. What the video talked about was that sometimes charter schools provide opportunity for folks in poorly run school systems to escape that system. And in some cases force public and even private schools to up their game. That's a net benefit for students. The rapid growth of charter schools is a testament to some element of success. There are pro's and con's for sure, but to call them "not successful" is a stretch. They have no video entitled, as you claim, "Why public schools are terrible, you should go charter".
And Rationalwiki? Really?
I think alot of your criticisms of PragerU stem from them just having beliefs that don't mesh with yours.

It doesn't say there must be, or even should be a Post Office. It just guarantees the rights to be able to open post offices.
PragerU has its biases and issues. Their history videos/videos including history tend to include mistakes and intentionally misleading or ignoring information that offers a more objective approach. It has a clear political slant.
