It's just my luck that the first game I have with Orkz in over a year is going to be against Deathwatch! I just hope that numbering 6 to 1 will be a help

So we could be looking at next month for any info. Or at the very least September. Hehe (dark humour joke ahead for those thinking I'm being depressing) what if gw just never talks about the Ork codex again. Like it jever comes out and we ask "when's the codex comming" and they either don't reply, tell us soon, tell us it's already out we just can't see it because they made the codex purple or say "what do you mean? What's an ork?"

What if tomorrow an Astroid hits the earth and we'll all killed?
Why bother yourself with extremely unlikely what if scenerios?

Oh my gork! I actually put in the dark humour part to say I was making a dark British humour joke because last time someone didn't get it and you still don't get it! It's a joke! It's over the top humour mixed with a bit of darkness in it to brighten the mood when things could be down. Do you really think I think gw is actually going to say they made the codex purple so we can't see it? Or deny the existence of Orks? It's standard humour... i don't know.. maybe i watched too mcuh Dead Ringers as a teenager.

for clarification:

1. When I say"hehe"I'm obviously not being serious. I'm doing the laugh you do when sat around a table with mates saying stupid stuff for laughs.
2. When i say "dark humour joke ahead for those thinking I'm being depressing" it probably means the following sentence is dark humour joke and is there for laughing, over the top humour that is not me being depressing.

Here is some more examples so we don't accuses me or anyone else of being depressing again:

1. A group of you are sat around playing DnD. You're rp character is trying to place a sword in his backpack. Someone in the group goes "hehe, what if you roll a 1 and you stab yourself then your trip and stab everyone else in the group killing us all instantly". Obviously this is an extremely unlikely scenario but you mention it because it's dark, over the top and plays to slap stick humour.

2. You're playing 40k and you're about to make a simple roll of 6 armour saves all on a 2 plus on your main hq to win a game winning you a £100 iackpot. Your mate goes "hehe, what if you rolled all ones". Obviously this is an extremely unlikely scenario but you mention it because it would be funny if it happened yet also dark.

3. You're crossing a stable bridge over a river but you're scared of hights and your mate goes. "Hehe, what if the bridge collapsed". Obviously this is an extremely unlikely scenario but you all sit around laughing to help take your mind of the fear.

I'm sorry if this is patronising but this is the 3rd time in a few days people think I'm being serious. So I'm making this public safety announcement so people realise (not just for you) that we're not all edge lords on dakkadakka.

Don’t worry mate, some of us got it

I would be heartbroken if we got nothing with the codex release.

It would show their intent as to how much support we're getting.

When you're one of the largest factions and you follow Knights, Harlequins, Dark Eldar and Deathwatch I think it's justified to expect new model releases.

It'll be a real slap in the face if we get nothing, though not surprising.

Well Tyranids got nothing new either and most were certain they'd see a combine Biovore/pyrovore kit and deathleaper/lictor kit (3 in a box same as they'v done for the zoanthrope/venomthrope). So its not like Orks are that special in not getting new models; Heck Tyranids don't even have a lord of war model from GW itself.

I'm seriously on two minds about this.

1. Hell yes I want new models! Who doesn't? New buggies and stuff would be great for my army especially.

2. I would rather just have good rules... gives me an excuse to not spend my money on new gw models and finish all my armies first.

That is true.. but it's safe to say their codex was pretty rad! I think this probably distracted most people.

But Also, remember, tyranids have most thier hqs in plastic, they got a new sc box, and we're not asking for new units. More just remakes of 20+ year old models.

Honestly thouh, if our codex ended up as amazing as tyranids (the ability to basically take what you want and remain solid) I'd be more than happy to forgive the lack of models.

regarding the last chance to buy stuff someone mentioned, I was at my local GW today, and casually mentioned the Space Wolves I was working on, the manager told me that pretty much all his Orks AND Space Wolves just went last chance to buy. Makes me suspect it's mostly just a matter of a rebox with the new 8th edition rules tossed in. As that'd be a TON of redone kits in late aug early sept. more then I think even Vanilla Marines have gotten.
Also to be honest I'd cry if the Space Wolves Pack was redone. it's a FANTASTIC source of bits. buy one box and you have eneugh bits to wolf out a battle company.

Off topic somewhat but Nids have also had their codex as one of the first released for xenos. They also have all plastic HQs and their codex is awesome.

If Tyranids were still unreleased I would agree they deserve new models, but when they've had their codex for 9 months and we have nothing the situation really isn't comparable.

There is no mention of space Wolves (and they are rumoured for preorder 25 August). If true it means we will be September and beyond.

I'm betting it will be wolf's only September, and Orks in "Orktober" buckle up lads, this is going to be a long and boring ride.

I feel this... it was unusual for GW to announce the codex and then hold off showing us something for 4 months without even a word. I wonder if something wasn't ready...

was just about to post this... didn't think we would start to lose FW models... doesn't look good especially around the Ork time. It's lucky that it's mainly just upgrades but recently in the world of FW they have done this thing where they take away a few upgrades to get you used to the idea then suddenly take big models away. I really hope we don't lose our bigger models... I hope to buy one one day if i become rich. XD

A little upset over the Ork Meka Dread weapon going... it's a cool looking piece that really highlights how advanced ork teck is... guess we gotta go back to just killing people with standard saws.

I'm bummed out about the Forge World stuff. The Shunta Arm was the only Meka-Dread arm I didn't own, and the Flakk Gun was the only big vehicle-mounted weapon I didn't own. Unfortunately the announced that they were going LCTB while I was asleep and they sold out before I woke up. I was saving up to do a big Forge World order, but if I would have known they were going to sell out I would have just paid the extra shipping.

Dang, even though the Grot Sponsons are still look like they're available on the LCTB page they are sold out when you actually click on them.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy some Forge World stuff second hand, which I don't normally like to do because it's usually expensive and kind often of suspect provenance.

I genuinely couldn't think of anything worse than "GSC Orks" or "Chaos Orks". Orks are Orks. They don't need a gimmicky tie in to another faction to be badass.

It also makes absolutely no sense given the current fluff.

I'm aware they used to exist. Note the words used to. As in past tense. The fluff has disappeared for a reason (it was garbage).

Much of the Black Library isn't canon? Also unreliable narrator etc?

You do you man, I'm sure you love them but for me they cheapen Orks. It's part of the reason I didn't collect them back in 2nd Ed.

You've got it backwards, GSC Orks and Chaos Orks aren't supposed to make Orks badass, they're supposed to make GSC and Chaos badass.

Also, what part of the current fluff says there are no GSC or Chaos Orks? I know that Orks falling to Chaos is very rare, but it has happened in past and relatively current books. I don't have my stack of codexes in front of me at the moment, so this is an honest question.

I guess I don't see how they cheapen the Orks*. I like that Orks are naturally resistant to Chaos, but in a big galaxy lots of weird things happen. I also imagine that Genestealers wouldn't infiltrate Orks in a traditional manner. I figure the Orks would probably get a sense that something was wrong with them. But I could still see Tyranids making hybrid Orks as part of an ongoing conflict.
*Of course this is just a statement of opinion on my part.

There's no current fluff of Orks falling to Chaos or to the effects of a Cult. There's a brief mention in the last GSC codex that hints at possible Orkoid assimilation, that's all. "Tuska Deamon-KILLA" as his name implies, is not, and has never been, a servant of Khorne (willingly at least). There's no other mentions of Chaos I know of and I have both 7th Ed codex and Ghazghkull supplement right here. Why would Tyranids make hybrid Orks as part of an ongoing conflict when they do not make hybrids of other races as part of an ongoing conflict? They feed off other races. At most they take the most successful aspects of a race and integrate it into their own as the hivemind sees fit. Orks are an almost limitless supply of food. If the hivemind figures out how to produce them, it no longer needs to fight and wage war for sustenance and can grow almost indefinitely.

For me the reason it cheapens Orks is because it removes their identity. If I wanted to play an army with a Chaos identity, bizarrely, I'd pick a Chaos army. Same if I wanted to play an army with the GSCult identity. The Chaos Orks and Cult Orks existed in a time when Orks themselves didn't really have an identity of their own and GW was unsure what to do with them (IMO at least).

the "primaris will replace old marines" bit is something I don't see we'll see coming for awhile, a lotta the basic marine molds are actually pretty new, GW'll proably use both for a forseeable time.

Orks CAN fall the forces outside themselves (Chaos, GSC).

The issue is, that the moment one boy starts acting "wierd"; he better hope he's the strongest one around - as the rest will be ganging up on them. Either forcing them into submission, or continuing to beat them (to death) if they fail to obey to stronger Orks. Fall in line, or get stomped out.

Their brutal and bully-istic culture removes the weakest links from the tribes; survival of the fittest, on an imbedded, racial scale. It also very strong chain of command; at least, until one of the upstarts tries to challenge the current reigning nobs/warbosses.

And true, there aren't many stories of Orks falling to outside factors; but to be fair, those don't belong in Ork Codecii, or Ork storybooks - they belong in CSM/GSC/etc faction books.

My hunch is somewhat close to Kirioth's rumor. I think we'll see them gradually roll out new Primaris units here and there tied to new Primarchs, Campaign books and chapter-specific codexes.

I expect them to have some support for regular Marines in 40k for the next five years, and maybe more like ten. On the other hand I wouldn't be shocked if they came out with a new "vanilla" SM codex that was Primaris-only after releasing a few more kits. They might tell regular Marine players to just keep using the old codex plus some fixes in Chapter Approved. It might be years before a new vanilla codex though if they start putting out books for White Scars, Iron Hands, Black Templars and the like instead of one big book to cover them all.

The above is all pure speculation, but I could easily see it happening. One other thing that I could see happening, but I think is less likely is them coming out with "historical" campaign books and rule sets for using regular Marines in between the events of the Horus Heresy and the Fall of Cadia. They might gradually stop supporting regular Space Marines in regular 40k, but still sell the models and tell people they should use them to play games set during the Age of Apostasy, Badab War, Armageddon 2, etc. while "current" 40k is pretty much just Primaris. (I'm not saying this is what I want, just that it's something I could see happening.)
