Thing is GW isn't just 40K. AoS can't be allowed to languish. There are other systems that need attention. There are models that were planned and designed well before 8th was a twinkle in your dad's eye. The new Keeper of Secrets rumor that is what...5 or 6 years old now and it's just coming out *maybe* this year with the Slaanesh update?
The Ork codex very likely could have come much sooner *without* any new kits, but then we'd still be in the same spot listening to complaints about old kits. The codex was announced with SW and GSC in June - four months. The article header? "The Far Future". You decided of your own accord to determine that the gap between announcement and release was going to be the same as previous announcements.
And, yea, I play Orks. Lots of people here aren't monogamous.
How do you know how long the models are designed for? Do you have intimate knowledge of the design process for models? Are you a designer working for GW? The Keeper of Secrets has been a rumour since the first revamped Greater Deamon dropped, for obvious reasons. It's nothing to do with the design process that you have little to no knowledge of, I'm also failing to see any relevance.
Other codexes have been released with model updates, way before Orks. Other codexes have been released and then had model updates. Nothing stopping GW doing either of those things then releasing Speed Freeks later. Both would have been better for Ork players.
Can you link to the article that announced Space Wolves, Orks and GSC? I don't believe GSC have been announced until very recently.
Can you comment on how I've "misinterpreted" these statements? I've underlined and made bold the parts I'm really struggling with for ease.
"To celebrate the return of everyone’s favourite green-skinned warmongering, barbaric xenos this Orktober, we’ve got an entire month’s worth of exciting content for you to help get you in the mood for Waaagh!"
"Orktober is going to be awesome, so don’t forget to check back each day to see what news and articles we have for you."
"Watch out for more Orks vehicles and more rules previews as Orktober approaches…" - Nova Open.
They seem pretty clear to me and I don't believe they've happened. Unless I've missed all those daily Ork articles, the months' worth of content and the previews prior to Orktober? This is my complaint and this is where GW have failed to deliver.
And GW is not responsible for expectations you set for them based on your personal interpretations. That's not white knighting. It's absolute exhaustion from reading the same thing over and over again. Release after release. Complaining isn't going to change their release schedule nor is it going to change how people choose to interpret a rule (like units in rhinos dying after turn 3). If you have legitimate constructive criticism for them - great - do that. This is not that.
You might want to read directly above? I don't think my "personal interpretations" are strange. Or different to how any normal person would interpret those statements.
Interested to hear your view though.
geargutz wrote:welcome to the GW labelled orktober, who promised an entire months worth of content (and we are 4 days with no articles) and we have so far gotten more news about the codex from our favorite leakers!
i would laugh if this wasn't so pathetic
I know man but apparently it's my poor interpretation of what GW said. Nothing to do with GW.
I completely agree that it's tragic that leakers are doing a better job of "Orktober" than GW.

I have this feeling that GW slapped together the Ork codex over a weekend and tested the waters on Oct 1 to see if there was any Orky interest in the faction. Facebook gets bombarded with record views and hype for the new dex. GW in panic mode to rewrite the Ork codex that doesn't suck in one month while tossing out random buggy pictures to keep the horde at bay. Just a thought.

Bad Moons :4+ invulnerable save
Blood axes: if your warlord is on the battlefield, roll a dice for every command point used. On a 6 that command point is refunded
Deathskulls: warlord re rolls 1s when attacking a vehicle. Enemy characters can be targeted with a shooting attack by this warlord even if they are not the closest unit.
Evil sunz: evil suns units within 6” of the warlord can charge even if they fell back earlier in the turn.
Freebooters: reroll hit rolls of 1’s for attacks made by friendly freebooter models while within 6”s of this warlord.
Goffs: add 1 to this warlords attack characteristic
Snakebites: re roll morale for snakebite units when they are 6”s from this warlord. Gretchin auto pass morale when they are within 12”s of this warlord.
Well..
Bad Moons is meh at range, useful up close though
Blood Axes, could be nice, depends on the strategems, will provide an extra few over a battle maybe (though I thought the new FAQ meant you get at most one point back per phase/turn?)
Death Skulls would be nice if a lone ork could hit anything when shooting
Evil Sunz, can see this one being very useful
Freebooterz, again useful, especially if this is all attacks
Goff, every bit helps but not that impressed
Snakebites, ork mroale is auto pass or huge fail anyway, auto pass for grots is nice though with a decent sized bubble.
Well my warlord is Blood Axe, and is staying Blood Axe so we gets what we gets

Bad Moons: A 4+ invuln is pretty solid for a combat warlord especially if there is no way to get an invuln otherwise.
Blood Axes: Meh. I don't see Orks really needing a ton of CP farm due to most likely having an abundance of troop choices and being capped at 1 per battle round does limit it's use. It also does not come with a free re- roll so it's rather sub standard.
Death Skulls: Unless there is a way to make a characters shooting reliable this is garbage. It will very rarely ever come up and make a difference.
Evil Sunz: Pretty darn good and has great synergy with Orks. Charge in, fall back charge again. You can open the enemy up to shooting from other units and then charge in again to ensure you go first or to even reposition. It opens up some really solid options.
Freebooterz: A bubble of re-roll ones is always good and welcome. Stacking this on top of the supposed freeboter tactics can net you some rock solid fire power and even better if it carries over to melee.
Goff: Typically you don't want you warlord in the thick of it because then you are at risk of giving up warlord so I rate this one pretty low. One extra attack is cool and all, but it's not nearly as good as the army buffing ones.
Snakebites: I mean usually orks fail horribly or pass without issue so I don't see this being super good, but it not terrible by any stretch. The auto passing grots could lead to some interesting builds with heavy grot screens and save points from being spent on Runtherds.

It's technically better, the rulebook one only gives you +1 attack on the charge. The Goff one is a flat +1 attack at all times. I'm also hoping there's more to it, because as is it's extremely underwhelming. At the very least it should be D3 extra attacks.

Uuuh no...Seriously some people should take ABC's of production including such a term as lead times. Codex was written months ago. If they would start on october redoing it it would be MONTHS from now and cost hell of a lot of money for GW.

I like Deff Skulls and Goffs so far.
A kombi Schorcha coulf do the trick for a warboss and with Dakka Dakka and the shoota portion coulc also get a hit or two. Deff dkulls are int luck so it could be good. Not sure I'd go with the Kombi rokkit but I/m never that lucky.
I tried the leacked rumored klan rules in my last game, played Goffs game my War boss the +1 attack trait from the rule book.
The Goffs one is better, has more longevity and may well work with a Mega Armoured Warboss. We also don't know if they are adding new ranged weapons options in the armoury or changing stats. If things like Kustom shootas get more shots ect or even if Ork BS hit rolls improve, doubtful but finger crossed I guess.

Also keep in mind that Thrakka will most likely be locked into this trait.
GW tends to give factions with "powerful" characters weaker traits, though they aren't really good at making those powerful characters good.

I guess we can be glad RG isn't Raven Guard but I am not convinced this applies to say Tau or IG.
I feel its a been a little while since we got some proper warlord trait rumours this close to release that were way off - so I'd assume these are close.
Still kind of suspect "Freebooterz" are going to be a thing as against the 6 clans.

I think it's worth stating that -if this is true- the Badmoons warlord trait is the bread winner.
Here's some cheese off the top of my head
Badmoons: Warboss Trike with a 4++? Yasssss
Blood Axes: A crappy trait clearly killed by the crusade against CP generation
Deathskulls: Sniper SAG, Sniper Trike? Sniping Skorchas
Evil Suns: Extremely solid "Always attack first cheese", this will probably be the go-to for WAAC lists
Freebooterz: Badmoons trait in a bottle, we'll be seeing Freebootaz KMK with Freebootas warlords nearby (2+ to hit, re-rolling 1's anyone?)
Goffs: The best index trait is even better here, but does it rival Badmoons or Evil Suns?
Snakebites: Useless, unless we see the removal of Mob Rule in which case this may be required for Horde lists. That might be just enough re-rolls to make the SAG viable
Other than that, I hope for a decent relic weapon to go with the trait, because the next best thing would be a KMB or kombi-rokkit.
That is, unless the trike warboss has some impressive shooting - but from the looks of it, I wouldn't expect notably more than a biker warboss has now.

So far GW has promised but failed to deliver a lot. It feels as if marketing team and production team are working in complete separation. One keeps making promises, then goes absolutely silent as other fails to deliver.
- in August they announced army wide Dakka-Dakkka and then said come back soon for more rule previews. “Soon” means more than a month I guess.
- longest pause between codex announcement and actual release, complete with absolute radio silence
- at the start of orktober they wrote “be sure to check everyday for more articles”, yet apparently we still have gaps between articles and side releases.
So yeah, I don’t really understand how people keep saying that ork players set their expectations too high when it is GW that keeps messing up delivery. If GW was a person, he’d be fired already for unprofessionalism.

I’m new to Warhammer and went all in on orkz before I knew how bad they are presently. I was talked into hanging on for Orktober and I have to say GW looks really really inept from my point of view. I know many of you have endured your rocky relationship with them over the years and this is probably another bump in the road but from my newbie perspective they do more to alienate their fan base than anything else. A look at their website and the Orktober references are falling farther and farther away from the main page. A little more transparency would do more for me than any shocking reveal at this point.

Right. With steady pace of fluff pieces to release obviously everything has to be preview of an upcoming model right? No sense in doing something as silly as exploring the fluff of the race...No sir. Absolutely waste of time.

Ork Admiral Kroozin Da Kosmos on Da Hulk

In my head GW has misplaced the model which they were going to reveal and now has half the marketing team searching the building for it to take the reveal photo. They are also wearing Space Marine costumes and kick in doors of employees while yelling "for the emperah!" Meanwhile, the Orks that were sent to GW HQ have come alive, hijacked the squig buggy and are now on a road trip to find a proppa Waaagh! because they were so disappointed with the studio army.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
