When I, and other British Dakkanauts of similar undisclosed vintage, were Nippers, we basically had 4 terrestrial channels, and a VHS if you were somewhat lucky.
Which meant we had to wait for movies on the TV. Search for Spock was the one I most often saw (maybe grandparents had recorded it, but don’t quote me on that)
Wrath of Khan I have a very, very specific memory of. That everytime it was on, we weren’t just having a day out, but were on our way home. And had stopped in at the same Chippy. Specifically one near Blackhall in Edinburgh. I don’t think it’s there anymore, but was next door to, or a couple of doors down, from the Blackhall Lounge.
So there’s some odds and ends from my sad brain and it’s random memories for you.

Ever wished you could unlearn something?
I was watching Star Trek Voyager Season 3, and about to head into Season 4. When I decided to learn why Jennifer Lien (aka Kes) left the show.
Whew. Mental issues and poor storylines. Jennifer had a bad time with life after Voyager. Including multiple arrests for indecent exposure and other things. She no longer acts and has gone into the medical field.
It makes me sad when people don't succeed in life. It also makes me sad when I realize I have 4 more seasons of Voyager to watch. (It's still better than Discovery).

Yes it's nostalgia porn, but I love when modern trek goes and backfills areas of canon from the older series

Gorn fighters don’t half remind me of the Chigs from out of off of Space Above and Beyond.
On my list of stuff to hope Netflix does a remake of
They do bear a resemblance. I don’t know how I’d think of a remake; I got the DVD a few years ago and it has stood up remarkably well (if a bit 90’s in places!), certainly better than I had expected.

Dang, did I miss Strange New Worlds. It's an oddly large group of likable characters. The fact that they can make most of them likable (it'd be all of them except I don't like Chapel as much after this dating spock arc) but we still have so much growth and depth is oddly impressive.

Agreed. I think they did a good job improving some of the characters and adding a little sex appeal never hurts.
I don't think we've seen the end of those earth characters and I strongly doubt that in 2025 Nurse Chapel hooking up with her instructor and it being portrayed as fine and wholesome is the end of that story. The instructor is going to end up being a salt vampire or something similar.

But it did reinforce that I should probably go back and rewatch S1 and S2 before the next episode, as we’re getting call backs to stuff I do not remember at all.

He turned himself into an android.
SNW is hands down the best Trek we've had in years.
Hmm, I'm surprised these haven't been posted here yet...

Setting it in the post-apocalyptic try hard wannabe future from Discovery makes me really really not want to care.
I hate everything about that entire concept from start to finish and my greatest wish with all the parallel reality gak they were doing in Picard, Lower Decks, and Prodigy was that they'd use it as an excuse to write it out of the franchise.

I think Disco would have been better had it been set in the future from the start. As it stands the only good things that came out of Disco was Strange New Worlds and that awesome admiral who gave the "It's made from our gak" speech.

Honestly, Disco got pretty decent once they moved forward in time. It wasn't SNW good but it was better than say....Voyager for me at least. But to each their own. I'll give Academy a try.

I'll give it a chance, but yeah - right now I feel setting it earlier would be better, mainly because there's the 900 year time-jump that needs filling in.

That’s got to be Janeway’s doing. One can only assume poor old Kim did a right Beefy Eggo, perhaps with a Sprout on the end in her presence. Probably before the miserable hag had her first coffee of the day.
