GW are advertising for games developers for 40k and AoS, although there's only three days to apply

Spoiler:
About the Job
Do you want to write exciting rules that bring the fantastic range of Warhammer 40,000 Citadel Miniatures to life? Do you want to develop the Warhammer 40,000 game system to make it the best it can possibly be?

Are you excited about working with a team of professional games developers to produce new rules for Warhammer 40,000? You will need to intimately understand the game system and collaborate with the other members of the Citadel Games Developer team, the Background Writers, the Product Developers and Management to get clear on what the rules need to do, then write exciting, innovative, watertight rules that accomplish that.

You will be responsible for creating all types of rules content for Warhammer 40,000 publications. You will also need to build professional relationships with and work alongside our growing external playtest teams, and help expand those teams.

We know what makes this job hard is being able to deliver consistently exciting, dynamic, unambiguous and semantically correct rules that fulfil the product brief, to a tight deadline.

We understand that experience in the field of games development is a rare commodity but we are keen to nurture the talents of those who show potential. It is possible therefore that the role may be offered at a trainee level, in which case supervision and mentorship will be provided as appropriate.

Working at Games Workshop
At Games Workshop we are looking for people who will do their best to understand the needs of the company and to put those needs first when they are at work.

Because of this we believe that what you are like, hence the attitude you show to work and the way you choose to behave is even more important than your skills or experience.

Other Essential Information
Closing Date: Applications must be received by midnight, UK time, on Sunday 29th July 2018

How to Apply
If you wish to apply you must send us a letter or a video telling us why you want this job. We select candidates for interview based on what they tell us in their letter or video.

This is a great opportunity for you to let us know that you understand what we are looking for. Please include an up-to-date CV to support your application. When you’re ready, please click apply, below.

I guess up-to-date CV and intensive interview amount to "no qualifications"

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

Because there are only 3 ways for a competent and enthusiastic GW fan to end up if they take this position:

1) Die from overwork as they try to fix everything themselves
2) Die from embarassment at being on the team that makes stupid crap
3) Go postal, with all that that implies.

You forgot:

4) Don't apply and just whine in YMDC as usual.

Yes it has. GW still made millions in profits. Maybe it was under 10 million in profit but still profit non the less. I am sure most game companies would have loved GW profits of the "Kirby" years. So it does make money just not lots of happy customers.

I would have tried but I live in Canada. So can't even try I believe.

Or

5) Write one of the most balanced editions in 40K history, get howled out of job by a bunch of illiterate 4chan morons nitpicking 2 or 3 sentences out of tens of thousands of words you wrote (illiterate because nothing in the fluff you wrote was new, in fact it was full of callbacks to earlier editions but the hate crowd was either too young or too dumb to understand the references)

Vigo. Spain.

I would apply but... yeah. Only for people in the UK... meh.

Like people from Europe can't speak english (Is not like we have a unified system to measure the level of competence in different lenguages here in Europe...), and if they get the job then go to live in United Kingdom.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

It isn't that sophisticated, I was implying that anything you were suggesting GW have achieved latterly still relies heavily on what and who has come before. Before even Kirby.

Have you looked at GW's products lately? It's not about the ability to speak the language but the ability to butcher the language in accordance with a set of rules not taught outside of Nottingham.

That said, Azreal is quite right. You'd be applying for a job outside the EU, and you probably want to hold off of any such endeavor until Britain sorts itself out.

Probably easier and safer for GW to look in the neighborhood for now.

To be fair, as little as 1 year ago GW was willing to hire from the EU but with Brexit looming, systemic government discrimination of foreigners and harassment in the streets, I don't blame them that they don't want to deal with it any longer.

Given that the basic rules mechanics of their two core games haven't changed since the 80s, Games Developer seems like an oxymoron

Because I would get sacked sooooooooooo quickly, I have never been one to tow the party line, accept mediocrity as an excuse and I would want to change things that clearly don’t work, I would want to rip 8th ed to bits and rebuild it from the ground up (a lot would stay the same though TBH).

The way I work and the way they work would be incompatible basically, the first time I had someone from marketing try to tell me to make something good to sell more minis is the day I would be fired.

Plus my mate works there and the horror stories I’ve been told make me mega hesitant...

Only hiring locals- incredibly bad idea in the long term, issues with Brexit etc. aside. GW should be casting as wide a net as possible to hire the best talent they can. This whole ad reads like they're merely looking for another sycophant to do management and marketing's bidding.

Unless you're discarding the existing rules entirely and starting from scratch, you can't effectively write new rules for a system if you're not familiar with the existing rules.

Given the conspicuous lack of qualifications outlined in the advert, it's almost impossible to be unqualified for the position.

Issues with Brexit are very real issues though. Its currently totally unclear whats going to happen with EU citizens that live in the UK. Its likely therell be some way of grandfathering them in, but that implies youve lived in the country for a while - so its very possible that recent hirees would have to pack up and leave pretty soon if things dont pan out. After Brexit is done, one way or another, they can start casting their nets wider again. But for this year, theyre stuck. And if they need more gamedev staff, they might not be able to wait that long.

Well... I have a degree in law, but am dyslexic, so I could make a tight set of badly spelled rules

Jokes aside, yep, I’d easily be qualified to work for a company like GW, my mindset has been a tad ruined by the military though... civvies don’t like being told they are gak at their job and need to shape up or feth off, too soft for that.

That’s reason #9747181 why I would not last there.
