How do?

If anyone can actually be arsed, theylll find that my attitude to toward the drip fed rules concept that’s been adopted for Specialistp Games, is entirely content based.

Whilst I absolutely object to paying extra money to get all the rules for the six basic gangs, that doesn’t extend to the books having actual, worthwhile content - at which point (much as it should’ve been there from the get go) - I’m actually ok with it.

But how have you found the first three volumes? Core gang rules aside, because that will always be a sore point, do you feel each has added to the gaming experience overall?

What is filler?

What is killer?

Currently, mine is entirely contempt based, unfortunately. Hopefully someday we will have a book as complete as the ones we already have from previous editions. Until then, well... I'm buying minis.

That said, I would also like to know what, if any, is actually good from Gang Wars 2 and 3, and what do you think should be erased when they eventually release a compiled edition.

I'm conflicted - on one had GW are sticking to their promise of a new gang & book every quarter, but there's still rules in White Dwarf and FW are drip-feeding their stuff.

I'd be happier if they went with a DLC/micro-transactions route rather than Gang War books - being able to just buy the sections you want.

GW1 was cheap. It basically has "core rules" for 3d and "core rules" that is campaign play and "core rules" for starter gangs (Escher and Goliath). Low on weapon options. Low on content. Boring scenarios. Also riddled with bugs, inconsistencies and missing rules.

GW2 was also cheap. Some interesting new content like hangers-on. Riddled with bugs, inconsistencies and missing rules.

GW3 is where the gold is! Now we have a "proper" game. More weapon/warwgear options than ever. Loads of new stuff. Interesting new and old classic scenarios. I haven't been bothered with much of the bugs here, but I've heard others say there are as many mistakes in this one as previous books.

Before GW3 I didn't enjoy the game to the full. Boring buggy scenarios. Not much to do with earned money. Very little options. At this point, I don't need GW4 & 5 to fully enjoy the game. We got Escher, Goliath, Orlocks, Van Saar, Chaos Cult, Genestealer Cult and Venator gangs. More weapons, wargear and scenarios than ever before. Almost no missing rules.

I got that one complete book, but I had to make it myself.

The good stuff is what's new. Gang War 2 had hangers-on and a few new weapons. Gang War 3 had brutes, pets, loads of weapons, loads of wargear, loads of scenarios. After compiling all rules into a single document, I don't think much should be erased. Perhaps Van Saar starting with BS2+ is a mistake, or that they can get 2+ armour. And plasmaguns with 2+ hit modifier on short range is annoying. Other than that, GW just needs to summarize everything into one single book without internal inconsistencies! Also fix a few bugs, scenario conditions, targeting hidden fighters (blast/template), blast mechanics, a few weird/unclear rules, weapon traits and some weapons with weird unclear weapon trait combinations.

The game is fully enjoyable by now, go play!

I have all 3 GW books, and will be picking up 4 (yay Psykers). I have to say while I am impressed with the hellish pace the team has kept, There are too many blaring inconsistencies for me to enjoy any one book. GW1 is essential for 3d play, but GW3 had the most content. GW2 was kinda eh.

Someone on Reddit made a compilation of Underhive and all 3 GW books, and added all the FAQs and Errata GW published, and included Yaktribe's YAQs for things GW hasn't answered yet. If you own all the books already, I'd check that out.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

GW1 is a necessity.

GW2 was flimsy. And it added more problems to the game.

GW3 is fantastic.

As long as House Delaque are missing it's not Necromunda.

I'm interested in Necromunda. Could you guys explain to me what these Gang War books are? Do they all have different rules in or are they newer editions of the same thing? Is it worth me waiting for a gang I truly like before getting a book, as it may bring a new Gang War book with it I should get instead?

Sorry for the noob questions

Edit: another noob question; what's 2D and 3D games?

The game in the box set comes with a 2d board. The rules for playing in 3d scenery comes in Gang War 1.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Check out some youtube videoes, you'll see the game is played on two very different styles of terrain. One is Zone Mortalis (dungeon like), the other is more classic like original Necromunda terrain, multiple levels. These are aften described as 2d/3d.

On top of my head:

GW1: Campaign, 6 scenarios, Sector Mechanicus rules (3d), Goliath, Escher. This book was released in November 2016 so much has been changed afterwards.
GW2: Orlock, Hangers-on, some bounty hunters & hive scum
GW3: Van Saar, pets, brutes, updated rules for Escher, Goliath and Orlock, 12 scenarios including multiplayer scenarios, special characters / bounty hunters / hive scum, big list of weapons (trading post & armoury), updated rules for weapon traits and more.
GW4: Cawdor, psykers, bionics, house brutes, Cawdor pet, skirmish & tournament rules, special characters / bounty hunters / hive scum.

I just can't bring myself to shell out $120+ dollars (and counting) for the basic rules to play Necromunda and I *loved* the old Nercromunda. If GW were to ever release a single book with all of the rules or even like 2, maybe a rule book and a single campaign book I would dive in. Right now it's both too confused with so many books with conflicting information and to much money just for the rules for the game.

Yeah that’s my issue. Up to 4 books being needed, along with the rules, feels like way too much to invest in, especially when people are saying the rules are so messy and full of holes and then needing FAQs to carry around too. Feels too much like 7th ed 40k which I stopped playing due to the same problem.

I’m gunna go play Kill Team

Had so much fun with Necromunda, so jumped on board on the day it was re-released, not fully realising how much it's gonna cost. But it's too late to stop now... What you need is to find/make a compilation document that solves all of these problems: inconsistencies, FAQ/YAQ, bugs, mess, typos and free.

Because this is the Internet, I doubt anyone who hasn't tried the game really blames the criticism of the game as the reason. But, just in case there is someone out there actually deterred by the complaining...you are being led astray. Is the game flawed? Yes. Sometimes amateur? Sure. Expensive? Compared to what? 40K? Hell, download the damn pirate online manual for free. Half the guys in my TWO campaigns use it, instead. And, dont' even use Necromunda figs. I don't care for that, but I'm not gonna say no to a chance to play in my first Necro campaigns in 15 years.
No, they haven't spent a penny on the game, and still play in the campaigns. Where there's a real will, there's a real way.

Why should you ignore the noise? Because the game is hella fun. Fast and furious. Because the new Zone Mortalis setting is NOT a stopgap, but a really fun way to play. Perhaps, even better than the 3d tabletop (and I am a crusty OLD SKOOL guy who bought the ORIGINAL game the very day it hit the shelves at the FLGS [1995] and began playing it that day). Because the campaign is modern, and smoother. Just the way you new gamers want it. And, very important to me, because the game pays full homage to the original. Updated in new and interesting ways. If you let the noise deter you from playing the game, you are being done a disservice.

So I could do what you describe Gobbla but the game is basically dead in my area for the reasons I outlined. A lot of people are not comfortable pirating the rules, they want to buy them legally. It's hard to knock them for that and to do that you are shelling out a simply unacceptable amount of money. This prevents a community around the game from establishing, which means even if someone is fine pirating, unless the majority of their local community is also either fine with that or shelling out loads of cash there won't be enough other people to play with.

Hopefully Kill Team will function as a bit of a wake up call to GW. It sold out in minutes here locally because it was a good value and I have no problems finding people to play against. In my local 40K Facebook group someone asked if anyone was playing Necromunda and the only 3 of us to respond basically said we are interested but that it is to expensive. (ie not enough value for what is being offered, not that we couldn't afford it)

Sad to hear, cause Necromunda is greater than ever before (in most ways). Almost all the original weapons and wargear with so much new added. Almost 30 scenarios! Now we got bionics too.

Right now, the game is high on content and fun.

So is it actually not possible to get the core rulebook outside of the starter box yet? If so, that's really frustrating.

I kinda want to do some Necro, but at this point I'm holding off until they release a combined rules encyclopedia with everything. If they don't, well, too bad, I won't be doing Necro.

The rulebook is too tied in with the starter set to be sold separately. They would need to discard a lot of pages and edit the hel out of the rest before they could sell it.

I'm happy with the direction the game is going in, starting with gang war 3 at least which feels like an actual worthwhile addition to the game. Gang war 1 and 2 weren't bad but they were short on length and content in comparison.

The main issue the game faces is the core rules being separated and organized weird. The new reference pack on pre order kind of clears up things and will make things easier to understand.

Later on they definitely need to do a revised compilation book of sorts. But in the meantime i'm enjoying the game, and gang war 4 looks to be just as good as gang war 3. As for the next book with Delaque...nothing is known about that, but i'd assume some spook/wyd/more psykers and stuff.

Despite a couple niggles the game is playable just fine.

They are incapable to do such an encyclopedia. And don´t give them silly ideas of editing their own written material. They will just create more typos and questionable rules.
