We have the old art like this, where they appear very light on their feet, and top-heavy, in contrast with marines who have gigantic boots:



And then we have the new models, who now have gigantic boots and clearly never missed Leg Day:




What gives? Are there any 3rd party ways to make the legs less gigantic and silly looking?

I don't see what the problem is, if you actually see the models in-person they're completly fine and in-scale.

Probably because having Eldar stick legs supporting the massive torsos of a Custode would look stupid, as they do in that piece of artwork.

Agreed.
If anything, that artwork makes them look super silly with chicken legs.

Hmm, strange I guess it's an unpopular opinion. I know the jetbike riders retained the narrow boots rather than gigantic platform greaves, I was hoping the infantry would have been more like how they did the biker legs.

My biggest gripe is that all artwork Custodes have capes while few of the mini Custodes have capes. Without the capes, the silhouettes are way off and the Custodes just look wrong. I might not have noticed it, but my brain did.

Jetbike legs are pretty much the same. They have breeches and boots instead of armour bit the proportions are the same.

The foot is still big true, but at least the greave doesn't flare out at the top and widen the leg.

Personally I find the Custodes the absolute worst example of Heroic models. Their proportions are just ridiculous to my eye, but I actually find the skinny legs in that art *even worse*.

Good point about the capes though - that certainly is a miss.

For me the problem is with the boots. They should have a more narrow, edieval armor type shape (akin to the storm cast boot in many ways) rather than the giant metal sneakers they have now. Beyond that I'm really very happy with them.

Pffff... Just use some dark eldar kabalite warriors for the legs. Easy swap.

I have so many issues with the Custodes models, aside from the fact they made them in the first place, but that's beside the point.
-overwrought helmets.
-unusable guardian spears.
-those fat bladed gun swords. off with those.
-chunky boots and thighs. (added armour plates don't help here)
-not enough pteruges.
-something about the pauldrons are also off putting.


All the excellent art work there is of them, but what we get is just big not-marines.
