Thanks gobert and graven! They're sized to be slightly larger than a Lychguard's shields. The hardest part is finding ways to have them "projected" in front of the shields with a gap in between them. I'm testing out a few things, will report with pictures once I have my 5 guys reposed (lots of waiting for glue to dry and then cutting it up again because it didn't work properly!)

The standing pose makes them look like a heavy infantry unit. The custom shields will make them stand out even more.

My two cents,

You know guys, I've been working on this one unit since I started my new job at the beginning of August. So it's taken me a LONG time to finish 5 little guys, but I gotta say, they came out fantastic. Plus, I had the benefit of my mother's professional photography skills and equipment, which has led to some really fantastic photographs of the finished models!

I'm still especially proud of that last guy, who I've posed to be coolly raising his shield to intercept a shot as he walks forward. The illusion of the energy shield appearing in mid-air before his shield is exactly what I was dreaming of, and I'm still a little in awe that I was able to pull it off--twice, actually, because I dropped him and it broke off the first time I did it!

Very well done indeed. The blades and shield look ace, and contrast well with the purple.
That explosion against the force field, though.

That's a great looking unit. I'm amazed that you got purple and green to go together so well.

Thank you so much everyone for you kind words. It means a lot to have such support from the community!

It's time to see if my Flesh Tearer scheme works on something Primaris sized.

Great start on those Primaris! Although it brings back flashbacks of the horror getting them on their flight stands

I hope so! It's never until I start getting a few of the details in that the miniatures start coming together for me, until that point I'm just barging forward in a panic hoping it comes out ok!

gobert wrote:Good to see the Flesh Tearers coming back. They look to be working so far

I've expanded my Space Marines collection a bit so there's gonna be a lot more Flesh Tearers in the future!

youwashock wrote:Looks good. I like the high-contrast highlights.

Thanks youwashock! I'm going for generally higher-contrast on these guys as I settle on a scheme for the Flesh Tearers. We'll see if the high contrast takes a way a bit of the menace of the dark red-and-black scheme. As you can see in the images below, I also went higher contrast on the black, tried bringing a tiny bit of blue hint into the highlights. Not sure if it came through at all, and a lot of it on the backpack is going to be re-tinted red from OSL anyways. We'll see. We're always experimenting, always iterating. Always improving.

Olthannon wrote:Yeah that looks great, tear that flesh!

Thanks Olthannon!

Viterbi wrote:Great start on those Primaris! Although it brings back flashbacks of the horror getting them on their flight stands

Don't worry Viterbi, I have plans... Those curved flight stands are absolutely awful aren't they! I want to avoid using them whenever I can.

As I hinted above, the black is done. I might have gone too light with the highlights, a lot of it really looks more grey than black. But we'll see how it looks once it's all together, I'm not panicking yet.

That's excellent, no need to panic. I think you've got your colours spot on the black works and red is exactly right. Kudos.
