Thanks to those who gave me suggestions, you've inspired my own final border for the diorama. I think it's safe to say I'm done, I left out the tank commander in the end because I couldn't find a nice position to place him that wouldn't interrupt the overall look of the scene.

Finished photos:

I love the MkII. Only thing that stands out is the MG34 on the bipod sitting on the back. Any movement and it'd fall off immediately just due to vibrations (picky!) If it's supposed to sitting there static...better

With time a premium right now I will submit these photos.

If I get time to take some better ones I will upload those to replace these.

Okay, so I found time to paint the Lieutenant

Hopefully it's okay to enter him on his own?

Done, final pics.

The man, the myth, the legend: Big ol’ Bobby-G.

Soooo much finicky detail. I tried to get it all, but I’m sure I messed up some of it. Happy with the sword. Tried using Duncan’s tutorial with the paints on hand. Not happy with the smoothness of my transitions, so I hit most of it with a yellow glaze and then re popped the white. Like how it turned out

But glad to get him off the bench. And if all goes well, onto the battlefield tomorrow.

Final pictures for my werewolf:

Better this time, but still not where I want the pictures--admittedly, some of that is the model not being up to snuff. I swear the ears and pads aren't that pink in person, and I needed to work the fur more, though some is the camera not seeing it. Thinking just another light so the shutter isn't open for a quarter second, but open to other ideas.

Cool looking diorama Tyranid Horde, nice weathering on the tank.

Good conversion Cpatain Brown, interesting they look better against the blue background, you can see more of the details and highlights

Great work Nev, the sword does look really good

Well done Brother Castor, oddly the photo makes it look grainy?

Another good choice of model Vejut, I like the little pink bits that add detail into the model.

Mines is getting there should be finished tonight but a few more highlights and details to add.

Yeah - a combination of drybrushing and photographing without decent lighting. It's not going to win any prizes unlike some of the other entries here but it produces a tabletop standard I'm happy with without needing too much time/expertise.

Some fantastic entries! I really love the texture that your drybrushing has created on the cloak, Brother Castor - I'm trying to think how I can incorporate it into my own models...
Awesome weathering on the tank, great fur on the werewolf and a lovely job on Robbie G, Nev.
Crisp and clean work, WishWarGaming - I really love the slime.

This month was a bit difficult but I was pretty happy with the 'Master Blaster' idea, so I'm glad to get him finished.

Good luck to everyone and see you all next month!

Wow, great stuff this month! Love the Master Blaster and the Panzer II diorama.

I got mine done just in time, here is Jeanne d'Arc from the Panoceania faction of Infinity. I am really not used to working in this scale, so it was a fun challenge and I have a lot more to learn and practice!

So I finished a second tank to go with the first and took some decent photos:

First attempt

Take Two

Although I don't think I took a proof of the second one, hopefully that can be allowed to slide?

Ironically, for experimenting with salt weathering, the thing I'm most proud of is the sepia ink to do the rust runs down the side, which I initially did purely by accident (I thought the ink might work better than the usual agrax wash, it didn't and I had to wash/wipe it off in a real hurry, which left some initial streaks that I then copied.)

That sepia wash works well. Maybe try some more concentrated pin wash streaks down the middle using the same wash. Will give the rust some depth and show that it's been exposed to the rain for a long time. If you like weathering check out ak interactive streaking fluids too. They rock.

Happy new year everyone!

Here are my final pics. I ended up finishing three of my skaven Blood Bowl team in time. As I mentioned, they're christmassy because they were a Christmas present two years ago, and I painted them using the brushes and official GW water pot I got for Christmas this year.

Here's to a great 2019! Well, obviously it's going to be terrible, but lets at least hope we're all here in twelve months time, and haven't all been turned into glowing, brain-eating zombies or feral canibals from the nuclear fallout/brexit-related food shortages. Merry new year!

I'm calling my entry finished. Three Space Wolves characters: two Wolf Lords on Thunderwolves, and a Rune Priest with a Jump Pack:

I had loads of fun working on these models, especially the Thunderwolf mounts themselves. I know these aren't my best work by a long shot, but I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I do look forward to being able to see (and vote for) everyone else's entries. That's one nice thing about our December rounds; since the theme is open, there's always a nice variety of different things. See you all in the voting thread when it goes live, and Happy New Year everyone!

@queen_annes_revenge, thanks for the tips, I’ll certainly bear them in mind if I do weathering on a more important model/diorama. Probably won’t go back to these, as they’re just standard gaming terrain; I tend to go with “good enough” on terrain, so that I can spend time getting more of it painted.

Also, open question, but I find that if terrain is painted in too much detail it can distract from the models; I much prefer more simplistic, “impressionist” terrain as a backdrop. Anyone else have that?

Just dropping a quick placeholder here.

My son sent me pics of his entry last night while I was out. I need to scrub them a little, as the white balance is off.

Para, you actually have me entering twice on the list. The second one (Salamander reiver) is him.

And done:

Due to him finishing late, there wasn’t time to get good lightbox pics. But these are not bad for a phone camera and whatever he cobbed together as a backdrop.

Proof pic and finished result. Spent waaaay too much time painting this, and I'm not really happy with the result. It would seem that when I apply the same colour scheme that I used on the guija on a smaller model like this, contrast is lacking. I will need to revise my yellow recipie.

And with that, I'll call things to a close. I'll allow that entry as I hadn't formally concluded yet, but that'l be it. Vote to follow soonish.
