Commercials were really something else in the 90's, weren't they?

Again though guys, the trailer isn’t scenes from Angels Of Death or anything. It’s just concept.
They haven’t started it yet.

I think more complaining will be valid when it comes to a full trailer or the first episode (depending how it then looks)

'Just concept?'

I think you fail to understand what concept work is supposed to do lol... it's supposed to sell the premise, and quite often can be even better than the final result. It's supposed to excite the audience and drum up support, you don't release art, even concept art or clips, unless you are sure it makes a good case for the final product. I.e, don't make excuses for the clip, they released it, it's up for debate.

That being said I am sure we will all, even the doubters, maybe especially the doubters, be thrilled to be wrong. That being said, the art direction in the clip, the lighting, the shadows, the geometry, all cause me concern. I would not have put it out in that state, and I deal with CGI and high end video professionally, so not a layman's opinion here. (not saying you can't disagree, ymmv, but there are objective issues there).

I think you fail to realize how much can change in an animation in just three months.

In animation work we have a demo-reel that shows off what we could be working on internally. If we judged it entirely on what the initial concepts would be no project would ever see the light of day. Remember this is a concept not a full trailer they did not even give you a date of when it will be finished. Knowing his work, it will probably every two to three months per episode.

Giving ample time for him to improve it.

We aren't talking about teams of people, but a single team.

Yeah, see, I also work in that business... you tripped yourself up there. In animation work we have a demo-reel that shows off what we could be working on internally. Internally being the key word. It's not the public announce material. It's not the solicitation to the client. It's the internal proof of concept or viability check. Which is not what this announce was. This is a public marketing announcement, and you don't make those unless you expect to generate buzz or excitement. It is not an internal pre-release leak not meant for our eyes, it's an announcement they elected to make. And you know as well as I do that even the little that is in that clip took time to put together anyways.

Your counter argument is not necessarily inaccurate but the context is entirely wrong in terms of this discussion. Marketing vs internal dev, they are 2 entirely different criteria to measure. This is marketing.

Thing is, I am not saying there is no hope to be clear. Things will 100% change as time goes by, may end up being amazing. My sticking point with this particular move is very specific to the announcement - there was no rush to put this out, no deadline that had to be met. They elected to do it this way, and though everything may change from that clip down the line, purely as a CGI and business person, I fail to see the cost/benefit logic that went into releasing that. GW used to do this kind of thing all the time years ago in terms of marketing decisions... It just strikes me as odd to see them do something like this again, as it stands in contrast from the more recent 'seriously, we learned from our mistakes' trajectory GW has been on. It's not a disaster, it's just an uncharacteristically amateur move based on the last 2-3 years.

Death of Hope is a trope of a trope like a new hope that ain't dope.

If GW actually releases a full fledged series they are going to upsell it to the hilt like everything else. This is the same company that charges $35 for a beta Codex and some point adjustments. Since all y'all will pay why shouldn't GW milk the sheep and sheer it deep?!

Paradigm for a happy relationship with Games Workshop: Burn the books and take the models to a different game.

It's almost as if this is a forum where we discuss news, rather than just a blog where news is posted. Maybe you'd prefer the endless parade of clickbait and non-news on BoLS?

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

As you say it should drum up support - that’s their error.
Quite often can be better, quite often is worse as it’s worked on more etc.

I agree the clip is up for debate. I am merely informing the people that may not know, that the series itself may not look terrible like this.
I’m in no way a GW apologist, and if they make something bad, they sure do.
But Rich is a good animator, so I have time for him. Though that still means we can all be proven right or wrong who knows.

I wouldn’t have put it out like that either personally, but a lot of people seem to be taking this like it is footage from the completed work and out it will come with more of the same - just stating the fact that we don’t know much about it yet

Huhn, I had taken it as clips taken from some sort of production-in-work or possibly an actual final segment. If that was not the case, it is a bit of relief - but makes me wonder where it DID come from (a pre-post/re-used & recolored scene from Helbrecht?)

I am still hopeful - GW has had some excellent CGI sequences in-house (Space Marine game, Dawn of War III trailer, heck even bits of the Knight trailer was cool and it had live actors in it) ; if it is the level of that Death of Hope 2 trailer, I'll be extremely pleased.

None of those are made in-house, they’re from third party video games and made either by those studios or (more likely) outsourced to animation studios.

A new update that they're working on the scripts:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/05/08/angels-of-death-update-the-story-forgegw-homepage-post-2/#gallery-8

Good to see ADB is on the script team.

Of course, the content of the scripts remains a closely guarded secret, for now, but we can promise you ship-to-ship battles, a drop pod assault and an appearance from a very special, and dangerous, member of the Blood Angels Chapter… and that’s all in the first five episodes!

Sounds like Mephiston to make a cameo too.

Sold.

EDIT: Also, using fan works as a way to find new talent for the company to exploit rather than reacting with irrational counter-productive "muh copyrights" rage? Another positive step forwards for the company.

Does this mean GW is cool with fan films now? Is that German fan film that GW crushed into the ground under Kirby now available to watch?

That's not what happened at all. The GW team at the time explored every possible avenue they could in order to figure out how it could be accomodated under GWs current copyright rules and standards without damaging those copyrights and they couldn't. From what I heard, they were pretty sad about the whole thing. Different team and a different way of doing things, sure, GW licensing is now infinitely more widespread (and apparently easier to secure) than it was back then. But there was hardly a sense of glee at GW at the time they suppressed that German fan film.
