A 40k series or movie of some sort is long overdue. There's so much potential, especially if they don't shy away from over the top grim dark violence, character deaths and the like. I think a live action series aimed at adults would probably be well received even by normies. But anyway, this is a step in the right direction, and it's really cool that they went to the fandom for talent.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Maybe they can do a Horus Heresy series via the medium of TV. That way, our grandchildren's grandchildren will finally be able to see the Siege of Terra fully realised in animation!

Yes, that was a joke about GW taking forever with the HH.

Obvious as it may sound, there are virtually limitless stories that can be told using 40K. Starting with Marines is a good place to go, but I hope that's not the place we stay.

I love the idea but I have seen better CGI in adult films. I hope this was a proof of concept type video and not final footage.

Still, I'm really happy to see them tackle this!

This is still the best piece of animation of Marines that I have seen.

Quality remains to be seen, but the fact they're branching out to different media is a good thing.

How is this likely to be distributed? Youtube or any chance of something like this ending up on Netflix?

Movies and series about games and/or toys generally aren't that good. So I'm gonna keep my reservations on this one.

ummm...that clip looks like crap. Really GW? More early 90's era looking CG?

There is no way I am going to watch something that looks that bad.

But the stories you say?...yeah, freakin space marines. How boring are they? If they're not having daddy issues and rebelling they're killing in daddy's name.

GW...Be ballsy. Give us a Gaunt's Ghosts animated series on Netflix.

And PLEASE drop the cheesy CGI.

Stunning adaption - lots of nice touches over the audio book - eg having some female voice talent for those characters - especially good for the Imperator Titan Princeps.

Watch and enjoy!

Helsreach is definitely worth the watch in my opinion. Also, I would warn not be thrown off by the initial artistic approach, as the animation continues to evolve throughout the series.

I am definitely excited to see what the developer can accomplish now with GW's backing!

Helsreach looks way better than that CG nightmare of a teaser.

Given that it is the Helsreach folks doing this I have high hopes as their previous work (on their free time) is amazing.

I really wish they would hire the Lord Inquisitor guy though, I was devastated when he cancelled the project.

YEah that is more unlikely he is done he wants his own projects and his own IP.

Ehh. We only saw like a minute. Maybe the marketing department at GW hasn't really dealt with animations before so they cut it a bit too much.

Also if people haven't read Devastation of Baal Please do its one of the best 40k books in dark imperium.

Bad CG TRAILER

Its not that bad. Whats the 'bad' criteria here? Inhuman or uncanny valley?

What is the quantifying applications here for 'bad cg'. None of the effects were off, it was just cut together poorly and was too quick. Not enough establishing shots or time taken between sequences / scenes in the trailer. Which would be the only gripes with it. The animations were fine, the textures look great. please quantify.

You're either being hyperbolic to a genuinely farcical degree, or you have a pretty warped recollection of old CGI.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The best what I have seen so far was Helsreach. The Space Marines in that project were actual characters and not one dimensional soldiers which can only grunt and howl.

I'm probably not being fair to the PS1...It may well have been better.

This trailer is utter crap. More of the same. How geriatric are the people making decisions that they would see that and be "that'll wow em!"

I'm probably being silly. The GW decision makers saw it and probably said "Those lemmings will just eat that up like every other piece of crap we put our logo on"....and then laugh their way to the bank.

Looks fine to me.

It often feels like there's only two types of CGI on the internet - whatever the current state of the art is and "oh noes so bad my eyes!"

Comparisons to PS1 era CGI are absurd, and only sound uninformed at best and either hysterical or intentionally malicious at worst. No bloody wonder GW still doesn't allow comments on their YT channel - they'd have so much pointless nerdrage to wade through every time they did... anything.

It's an in house project by a tabletop games company, not the latest Blizzard cinematic, so I'll look at it like that and say looks okay, let's see how it turns out.

Peoples expectations are a bit high for a modelling company

They use CAD but I don't think they can use that for CGI.

I completely agree its just silly to be angry about it. I know student projects that had months in the bakery and don't look half as good as that trailer.

No no, They're referring to the 'ultramarines' MOVIE, I think. It's this 2010 CGI film about 40k that flopped, IIRC. the people mentioning it are worried this show will end up with a story on par with that movie.
