Olthannon wrote:Great stuff Gobert, that glossy black you use for the eye is great. Really makes them look alien.
Thanks Olthannon, I was thinking of dropping the gloss as abaddon black is pretty shiny, but seeing the with ardcoat helps the black look blacker and contrasts the glow better.
Finished up the Royal Warden and Plasmancer tonight. They had slightly busier bases so they took a bit longer, but I also made some progress on the bases of the remaining characters too. But here’s the finished Necronies
Staring at each other, faintly remembering life and love
Hmm, looks like I forgot to tidy up the rebar on his base
I still can’t get over the value of that eBay haul that these guys were part of. All I was after was a few Necron Warriors and got these guys and a bunch of Skorpekh and Ophydian Destroyers for cheaper than most other warriors selling at the time! Love eBay sometimes
The Warden probably needed the most work of the lot, but an immortals gun, a new head and plenty of sprue goo and I reckon he looks pretty decent, especially with his third eye. Oh and he got a bit of chopped up Plague Marine belly to stand on
This guy just needed the spiky coil things on his back glueing back on and sadly he’s lost his pointy finger, but let’s just call that a minor conversion
Next will be the Psychomancer and Geomancer, then I’ll spend a bit of time finishing up Szeras and all the dead/dying people on his base. I even freehanded a Panther on the Terminators shoulder pad
Thanks for looking

And this particular Cryptek won’t be making it again I think I’d like to go back and do all the jewels in black gloss at some point, but I’ll probably forget when I get back to the rest of my Necrons. That chap is a Royal Warden, though I think I took his Gauss Blaster from the Immortals kit.
muette wrote:Those look great! Love the shiny black against the pale green.
Thanks muette, it’s crazy how much darker the black looks when it’s had the gloss coat, really helps the glow stand out
SarpedonofSotha wrote:Really love the ethereal looking necrons ! Amazing job, as always!
Thanks sapredon, ethereal is the vibe I was hoping for.
A quiet Sunday in Schloss Gobert led to a good bit of Hobby time. Nobody spotted that the Royal Warden and Plasmancer didn’t have snow on their bases, so I fixed that first
I then got stuck in to the other 2 Crypteks and actually managed to finish them off too! Here’s the Geomancer;
He’s a pretty cool mini, but quite difficult to get to all the bits of his legs. Looking at it now I think I should’ve done something different with his stone, maybe black? Then again I think I’ll tie him in to the Tomb World terrain better this way. Anyway, cool mini, but not as cool as the Psychomancer:
Love the skull that he’s projecting, it’s super cool and creepy
So obviously I took lots of pics the whole way around
Really quite pleased how he’s turned out. The skull and a few of the digital bits got a bit of white ink added to give a bit more definition and boost the effect I hope. I was doubting my decision to make his snakey arms black with the green glow, but I think they worked out pretty well in the end.
With the Geomancer, I also finished the Canoptek Circle Kill Team. So I got the gang together;
When I put them on the shelf I decided to also take a pic of my German Necrons
Not a bad looking bunch of if I say so myself. I’ve been enjoying painting these in batches of 1-3, (maybe that should be my new limit) so much so that I’ve been eyeing up a few larger Necrons to be my Birthday Amazon voucher spend for this year. I’ll probably end up spending it on power adapters at some point
Illuminor Szeras is progressing in the background. His magic bit is painted, the terminator is nearly finished but the dying priest is barely started. The biggest task will be his glow that will probably take ages
Thanks for looking

As you say, sometimes eBay can really come through. I love rescuing models that way!
You've salvaged this revenant horde very nicely. Those Skorpekh Destroyer reposes look good to me! I like the black tentacles coupled with the glow on the Psychomancer, that works very nicely IMHO.
I laughed at 'German Necrons' but hey! you ain't lyin'!

Yeah, I think rescuing minis is probably my favourite part of the hobby. Especially when you get a bunch of Necron Warriors, Ophydian and Skorpekh Destroyers plus a Plasmancer and Royal Warden, all for about the price of a box of Warriors.
So my German Necrons project is complete with Illuminor Szeras rounding it out.
Another great mini especially the dead priest on his base. I painted him up similar to Taddeus the Purifier from Blackstone Fortress. Maybe they went to priest school together!? The Terminator has been there a bit longer and was damaged beyond repair so he didn’t join the 1st Company Void Panthers but filled some of the real estate on Szeras’ base
Annoyingly my phone wouldn’t focus on all three minis at the same time, so the priest is a bit out of focus in them all
I think the freehand chapter icon came out pretty well given I’ve not painted it for a few years now
Since that’s the end of my first German project here’s Illuminor with his mates
The whole gang
All in I’m pleased how this little project turned out. It took quite a bit longer than I’d hoped (should’ve been my December project, then my January project and it ended up being the first one finished in Schloss Gobert.
Since I’m in a finishing projects kind of mood I’ll sort out the Eversor Assasin I started ages ago.
Thanks for looking

Looking great gobert - those Necrons are a thing of beauty. The colours on the (geomancers) skull projection are amazing and I love the effect of the soul (life force) being ripped from the priest. That is a really nice army you’ve put together. The assassin is nice too, the terrain is cool (natural weathering by rubbing off the paint is something I’ve done before - mainly by accident mind you) but i really love the glass effect on the gun. Very impressive!
Which terminators you doing next, old school or the blood angels ones?

Not Online!!! wrote:Great job Gobert.

Thanks, I’m really pleased with how the base turned out… might even be better painted than the mini . His pose really is ridiculous and the needle is so easily breakable, must’ve snapped it off 2 or 3 times already!

Thanks Jordy, the skull and life force are such cool pieces of the Necron range, and they suited the colour scheme pretty well too. Don’t worry, the paint rubbing off was also a happy accident for me . I think the glass on his gun might be the best such fact that I’ve achieved so far. The Terminators are the Blood Angels for 3rd/4th Edition Space Hulk, check out the first finished batch below.
Mothsniper wrote:Wow! Those Necrons really glow.

Thanks Mothsniper, thinning them down to wash consistency works pretty effectively, but I’ve had limited success with fluoro paints.
It’s a Race weekend so I get to escape to the Hobby Cave guilt free and watch the F1 whilst painting. Rather than doing a big batch of all of the Terminators together I’ve split them up. I went with the ‘boring’ ones that only have Storm Bolters and Power Fists. I had to skip back through the plog to remind myself what I needed to do to finish them off; Metallic highlights and spot the unfinished gems. On this batch the unfinished gems were all the red ones and a couple of purple ones hiding in an armpit. Here’s the completed gang:
I think they look pretty good in person, but the close up images don’t do them many favours. My new hobby space also doesn’t get much natural light so the colours are a bit off. In particular the red is much less vibrant in real life. In a break from my usual pics, I’m going to start with their personal heraldry. It’s a cool addition the GW added to the minis and I think they all came out pretty well.
Here’s Brother Noctis
I think his gems are some of the best of the bunch, which you’d expect given how much purple I normally paint
Next is Brother Goriel
I love how beat up he looks, he must’ve really earned his trophy! The Genestealer matches how I painted the other half of the box, but I think I should’ve added some blood and gore from it.
Dakka wasn’t playing ball with uploading such a large number of pics at once, so I’ll upload the rest later
Thanks for looking

Wow! Those Necrons are great, wouldn't have thought of it before but now I've seen it, I like that "ghostly" kind of glow much more than the standard GW glow.
The Eversor is really nice and works well for painting without washes. The Space Hulk Terminators are ace too!

Thanks Piousservant, the scheme was adapted by something John Prins did on here many years ago. The extra work put in to the glow is my favourite change that I made, gives a real cold energy vibe I think.
As promised here’s some more Terminators, starting with Brother Scipio who’s ripping up the floor
Claudio aside, I think he’s got the coolest pose. I know he’s supposed to be ripping up the floor, but it seems like a super hero landing to me
Next up is Brother Deino
Perhaps the blandest of all of the Terminators, but still cool. His triple purple gems turned out pretty well especially on his main heraldry
Here’s Brother Omnio
I don’t think GW have ever done an open Power Fist before, it’s kinda cool but the draught of the cast means it doesn’t really have much detail in there. The golden Aquila over the red and black background somehow looks really cool as well.
Last of the batch: Brother Valencio
Pretty cool pose on Valencio and his wing on top of his storm bolter is pretty cool, plus who doesn’t like a chainfist!
Thanks for looking

Thanks Ragsta, those vials worked out pretty well. Sadly the Terminators won’t be making it to the terrain for a while as I left it with a friend, but it got some pics with the stealers anyway. The armour was based on Trovarion’s grim dark space marines videos on YouTube, though I deviated with using streaking grime and didn’t do the black edges. Give it a go, it’s super easy and looks great on the table top.

Thanks muette, it was fun trying something new (though I’ve since done lots of similar style with my death guard).

Thanks kabaakaba, glad you like my Necrons, and they give you that spooky vibe!
So after a week of putting off finishing the Terminators (thanks Fallout 4!) but last night I finally got them done. As with the last batch it was more gemstones and metallic highlights.
Here’s Brother Zael
Looks like a missed a few rivets on him, but that’s nothing new from me! His crest was a mix of sculpted elements with the white flames being free hand which turned out pretty well. This guy likes his scripture as well, and I like how they ended up.
Brother Leon
Leon brings the big guns and is meant to be one of the best in game models alongside Zael.
