Hey, i have been using chaos black citadel spray.

edit - Also i did have some issues with it, but i dont think it was the spray i think it was the way i went about it. Some areas of my minis went extremely frosty, im pretty sure this is because it was windy and i just did it wrong, but im not 100% sure.

edit - Just thought i should show a picture of the spray i bought that i was going to use before this conversation, dont know if any one can look at it and say weather or not this would be the same as citadel because there are some differences in ingredients it loooks like. Any way just showing this for those who care.

Pretty sure this is the wrong stuff - looks like you dodged a bullet by washing it off. You definitely don;t want to be using an enamel undercoat. You should be looking for acrylic based paints.

wow, you definitely didn't do your research, enamel is for cars and the like, not highly detailed miniatures. what you want is matte acrylic primer color of your choice, avoid texture primer as that is for houses, gesso=as that is for application on canvas.

I've never seen spray paint containing LPG either... wtf?! where did you get this?

Not only that but it contains acetone, which I know from personal experience, is very good for stripping paint from metal minis and will, in fact, melt plastic ones. So you are very lucky I feel.

Acetone is used in primers to smooth it out as its settles, its in the army painter colour primers, also most aerosols have lpg either propane, butane or both

haha terrible..I'm an engineer and I didn't realise butane was LPG. I thought they were different.

Oh, i should be more clear. I did not use that spray in the picture, the one i used i was able to get a refund for. If i had used this i dont think it would have come off easily like the other one. But yeah thanks for letting me know that its not good stuff.

edit - But i bought that spray afterwards, i did not use any of it on my model im going to do. I did try a little on a space marines back pack, and it seemed fine but yeah definitly wont bother with the stuff now. Thanks.

If the spray works fine on a test piece then I'd say go ahead and use it.

At the end of the day, you find what works for you and go with it. Citadel paints and paints from other manufacturers are acrylic paints, hence why you want an acrylic primer. I personally wouldn't use an enamel primer but if you test it on an old mini and find it works, then go for it. You may find paints or washes don't flow right on it though. I used a BMW Arctic Silver primer for my Grey Knights army and found while it was generally fine, my blue tint wash didn't flow in the expected manner and was patchy - it made more work having to tidy it up than if I had just bit the bullet and used an Army Painter acrylic spray, for example. As always, YMMV - do some tests and see if it works

The quick color spray is what I’ve been using for 10 years. Just make sure you get the flat version and let it dry completely.
