That reminds me of the Impact Miniatures base KS. Did they ever start that campaign?

The impact bases kick-starter was successful and I got my bases last month, or the beginning of this month... Time kind of blurs when you work from home. But the bases were good. I got a bunch of the 30mm.

Darn. I was planning to pledge for some of those. Just lost track of what was happening.

Yea, bases aren't priced that competitively then.

They are $0.25 a base, less so from retailers or if you multi-pack buy from wargames Atlantic direct.

They have an inbuilt slot made specifically for magnetization.

I think $0.25 each ia competitive.

Its not horrible pricing, but...

300 of these bases costs $75 (Edit: To be fair the 5 box discount if you buy 5 boxes at once would be $62.)
300 GW style bases off amazon or ebay costs $30
300 gray frostgrave bases off ebay costs $50
300 green frost grave bases from Brigade games costs $45

Now if you specifically need the slot for magnetization, great but still not sure that is worth $45 more than the same number of GW style bases of even $25 for the same number of Frostgrave bases. I am sure it will mean that to some I guess. Liek I said the price isnt horrible but a bit more than I was hoping for.

Yeah, I definitely like those. Praetorians were the coolest Guard models GW ever did, and these guys make a really good "next best thing" for them. Pity I've already gone in fairly hard on the Les Grognards, or I might get some of these. Then again, the Grognards already have their heavy weapons/command box, so I don't really have any regrets.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 21 | Current main painting project: Warhammer 40k Leviathan set

I need 240 for a project of mine for "heavy conversion".

Edit NVM, preorder for may.

I say the guns turned out a tad bulky but maybee that is just the paintjob if i look at the sprues.

Sadly they still don't take prepayment.

I don't get this raging boner people have for the Zulu wars stuff, that one brown trencher is the best of the promo pic models by far.

I have to agree. The other minis look awkward somehow.

Either Zulu Wars sci-fi is your cup of tea or it's not, and if it isn't, there's no point in explaining. Matters of taste, and all that. However, I do agree the trencher looks fine. (Bought a Warzone starter a long time ago because it had Imperial Trenchers for the Great War in SPAAAACE! look). Anyway, since this will be another flexible WGA kit, so I can build my not-Praetorians, and trench raiders (with some of the Victoria CC arms). Probably use the beret heads elsewhere, perhaps on the raumjager bodies.

I loved them Warzone trenchers but never found a glue that would hold them, even green stuff slid right off. Ended up giving the whole bag of 40 trenchers and 40 bauhaus away.

Wow. I thought they were just standard HIPS plastic. (Like so many of my projects, I've yet to actually assemble them.) Maybe I should try assembling one. If the result is the same as yours, they aren't worth bothering with.

Plastic cement doesn’t work on them, and super glue barely works. Most of them I have assembled have come part over the years, but some of the super glued ones are holding on.

Next time I’ll use the hot glue gun.

I found the same with the set of models I picked up from Prinz August for a song.

The best use I had was cutting up the Trencher backpacks for a stack of holstered pistols, backpacks (sitting on my Ventrillian Nobles conversions) and bedrolls.

I had the same experience, it was... unique. Someone at a gaming shop recommended some weird 2 part plastic glue but I never bothered. I think they ended up in the trash.

That is strange, plastic cement worked a treat for me and they still hold together today... There's a few different glues out there and I guess you got some rather weak one. It definitely was regular HIPS and not PP/PE. For that you need special two component glue like Loctite produces.
Some plastic glues are more aggressive than others, you notice it on how much it "welds" the parts together. Commercial ones like Revell etc. are not very strong... Best one I ever had was a local brand from a certain hobby store. That was a Meltagun in cement form.
And probably highly toxic

Blame Geedubs, they started it, so people want models that look like their thing.

That, and the "Last Stand at Glazer's Creek" battle report in White Dwarf 222. Widely regarded as one of the coolest battle reports in the history of the magazine. It was a 40K version of Rourkes Drift, Praetorians vs. Orks (notably, using the more badass Gorkamorka orks... in late Rogue Trader/2nd edition Orks were a 100% joke faction).

Where I grew up, we didn’t have Zulu, but we did have Shaka Zulu.

Pith helmets do less than nothing for me.

Must be a regional thing, I remember the NYC GW store couldn't give their Praetorians away and ultimately sold them for more than 50% off. I got some and promptly lopped their heads off so they wouldn't have pith helmets. Still have one 're-headed' Praetorian in my Mordian force.

Figure design peaked with the advent of Grimdark sci fi Victorian British in Spaaaace.

Everything else since 1998 has been a minor footnote.

Until WWII themed Orks become a thing, wargaming has no real future.

Personally, I'd love to know what Wargames Atlantic reject as being 'too daft or obscure' from their brainstorming sessions.

I do miss that the Bearskins never made it to the final Bulldogs set but my order of 5 boxes should see a lot of kitbashing going on. I have my grubby mitts on the accessory sprue and they are waiting for the Bulldog release.

I didn't either but they are still cooler in my opinion than any Space Marine. These models look great and I can count a good Platoons worth in my collection.

WWII British styled Orcs from the Panzerfauste game by Wessex have been around for well over a decade now, maybe two?

That was tongue in cheek along with the other lines about the Praetorians being the be all and end all,

The Tommy Orks were good but the Kromlech WWII British inspired Kommando bits were my all time faves. Orks with Stens and Brens. Yes please.
