A correction. The human security drones are brainwashed clones, so they don't have a choice. Also, they may be incapable of rebelling. The Death Fields gladiators are kidnapped soldiers from Earth, presumably given longevity drugs. They are the likely ones to start a slave revolt.

From the Bulldogs box:
One of the stars of the Death Fields Circuit, the Bulldogs is a combined team formed from abductees taken from the shadow of Isandlwana, the banks of the Somme, and the streets of Arnhem.

Anyway, the Death Fields premise is similar to Ranks of Bronze by David Drake. Those legionaries are from the Roman Republic and were captured after the Battle of Carrhae {53 BCE}.

There was a series of novels with a Union Civil War regiment lifted and shifted to an alien world and I think they kickstarted a revolt.

Some of the covers looked glorious but they never made my collection of bought books. I can't even remember what the series was called. They were in a specialist book shop and I think they were US imports and not UK general release books.



My "Hold on" was a mickey taking response to the idea of the ethics being OK because the slaves are brainwashed!

Ah, I vaguely remember seeing that ACW series a long time ago, but I did not buy it. Had forgotten it existed. And come to think of it, Poul Anderson's The High Crusade was published 26 years before Ranks of Bronze, and there's the Destroyermen series, which I have not read. Ranks of Bronze is the one that comes readily to mind as I own it, and it has a more direct connection to Death Fields as the aliens intentionally enslave the Romans for combat. Also, The High Crusade is also intentionally written as a humorous fantasy/sci-fi piece. And from what TV Tropes says about Destroyermen, the USS Walker was sucked into an alternate earth by a storm. AFAIK, no alien kidnapping involved.

As for the "mickey taking response", no, I got that. My response was to Lord Blackfang's mention of the brainwashing. Only some of the human slaves are brainwashed; the gladiators are not.

As much as I love 40K, WA have me looking forward to their weekly emails especially the Death Fields output.

As I mentioned pages ago, I don't know yet if The Vain will be added to my Praetorians or slotted in with a Ventrillian Noble colour scheme.

Unfortunately, no new additions to Only-Games today.

I believe you are thinking of the Lost Regiment series of books. I have read some of them.

The Janissaries series by Jerry Pournelle predates The Lost Regiment by a few years I believe. Loved both series back in the day. Lord Kalvin of Otherwhen by H Beam Piper was another great counterfactual work.

If you wanted to paint the crier as if he was a statue, sure! That's definitely a valid and cool idea.

Has WGA said anything about what is going on with the Afghan Cavalry? They seem to be stuck in sculpting hell as I seem to remember them being at that place in the schedule since they were announced in September 2020.
