What it says in the title. What lore would you like to see more of? What mysteries do you want to see expanded upon in the 40k Universe?

If we believe what GW has been putting out, lots of people want to see more Rogue Traders, Blackstone Fortresses, and the continuing war between Chaos and the Imperium. Do you like this direction? Or do you wish they would have put something else into the limelight?

Personally, I'd like to see more on the Inquisition and various forces around that. What are the various branches of the Inquisition up to now that Guilliman has declared himself proxy-Emperor? How are they fighting against Chaos as a threat when Chaos is running rampant across the galaxy now that the Cicatrix Maledictum is open? These are things I'd rather read more about.

Imperial Guard with strange and mixed-up elements, like how a single RT imperial army regiment had lots of different unit types. Fewer Russian-ice-planet, desert-planet, soldier-planet backgrounds.

Blackstone fortresses filled with weird robots, LaTD units and priest/trader/kroot/eldar adventurers, that’s great.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I’m not sure how the imperial war against chaos and the inquisitors’ war against chaos is too different, can you explain? Is it just less warfare with 1000s or marines and more skullduggery?

This is going to be unpopular in some quarters but.. Primairs Marine lore.. with a cavet.Right now Primairs Marines feel like a stapled on group, without the deep lore a lot of other stuff has to back it up etc. I'd LIKE to see GW really dive into the fluff orginization wise, flesh Primaris Marines out, etc. It's IMHO some of the most NEEDED lore in 40k right now.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I'm not a huge fan of anything that "explains" away the mysteries of the lore. I'd rather have more stories that are just isolated "happenings" within the universe, with very little implications for anything beyond the scope of the story. I also like stories that are told from the point of view of "Average Joe," rather than from the point of view of the "heroes and generals" of the setting, whereby Joe merely bares witness to the feats and deeds of those greater than himself. This all adds to the continuing mystery of the setting, and the characters that inhabit it. To that end, can anyone recommend such stories?

I would love more stories from the point of view of the tau, especially tau fighting chaos or necrons.

The primaris actually being what they were in 30k and being explained to them why marines were placed in the squads they were instead of retroactive "Nah lets do 30k tactics again."

With the way GW have been writing lore lately, I don't want to see any more lore unless it's done as a setting and not a narrative.

I think they've been hitting the right note for Blackstone Fortress although I feel they're focusing a little bit too much on the Chaos conflict of it. If they made it more about the explorers and the fortress itself you'd have a very different dynamic.

More chaos warband stories from their perspective. The night lords trilogy was awesome, so more long those lines. I'd like to read the alpha legion stories but not got round to them yet.

This. More "historical" lore too. The two bits from the Age of Apostasy from Codex: Sisters of Battle 2nd edition were great! In the Reign of Blood, you had a madman that was not possessed by chaos, or at least not obviously so, you had the trial of Sebastian Thor that was so much more subtle than anything GW did recently. And the Plague of Unbelief was great too.
All those stories don't destroy the nice mysteries of the setting, they don't change the already introduced characters, but they bring a lot of flavor to the settings.

Any story with more than one (unrelated, a story with Yarrick and Gazgkhull is fine) special character is a bad thing. Creates a lot of "smallworld" effect, diminish the setting.

At the risk of being "That Guy" I'm happy to replace the lore with head-canon, although occasionally the effort of translating overwhelms me and then I confuse people.

For the present I really want more Dark Imperium lore, I also think Primaris really need some lore especially novels about non Guilliman descended Primaris.

I’m especially interested in the less genetically stable gene lines like the Angels and Wolves, the BA Primaris in the Astorath short seemed conflicted and a bit jealous of the older marines suffering the Black Rage because it gives the older marines visions of Sanguinius life, they wondered if the lack of such visions made them lesser sons of the Angel, I’d like this angle extensively explored.

Historically I’d like a mini Horus Heresy style set of novels exploring the Badab War.

Get rid of most of the Ynnari stuff they've written and add a series about religious sub factions gaining prominence across the Eldar. Less idiotic things like Ynnari having the first Avatar of Khaine.

More backstory on Fenris because that could actually fill in gaps like why Rune Priests think they're better and would be a good time for an interesting story.

I feel like retconning the old Necron lore and giving them personalities and idiosyncrasies would be a great way to explore things from their perspective but there's a real lack of that

More Ordo Xeno lore delving into all teeming myrriands of strange lifeforms in the 40k universe, I would be glad for getting something like a great tome, with stylized cover and book bindings.
That or something from the Adeptus Mechanicus and the depths of Mars or some far flung forgeworld

More lore about the different tyranid "species" alla devastation of baal. Learning how trygons build tunnels, and a look at the lictors different senses etc was very interesting.
But no more "stronghold vs nids". Its getting old.

This is a good one. Xenology did it a bit (put it back in print!), but some more stories about some of the less popular 40K Xenos species would be interesting to explore.

I still think it's bizarre that Enslavers haven't been fleshed out a bit over the years.

I do love Xenology. It even shows us that Necrons kept their personalities.

How about a thriller that doesn't include the Inquisition or Arbites, basically, normal people must solve a murder mystery.

Something about Tau culture. I was thinking something like an equivalent to Path of the Eldar, but with Tau. You basically pass through the lifestory of a Tau firewarrior/pilot/Ethereal.

A compendium of short story told from a tyranid perspective.

Another comic book of Deff Squadron.

A 40K bestiary. I want to know about more minor xenos and animals of the galaxy.

A proper love story.

IIRC one of the warhammer horror novels (or a short story in the anthology) deals with exactly this. And IIRC Dan Abnett wrote a story that he later tied into Eisenhorn that likewise is much like this.
