As far as the 40k rules go, servants of the abyss now have:

Obsidius Mallex
Traitor Commisar
Chaos Ogryn
Black Legionnaires
Chaos Beastmen
Traitor Guardsmen
Negavolt Cultists
Rogue Psycher

Sure, that's not a huge list of units, but it's almost as many as Custodes and they have a full-on codex. If unit sizes were increased, wargear options added, throw in a handful of imperial vehicles and another HQ and signature unit... Bamn! New codex. Quite frankly I like the idea of a single unit of Chaos marines running around with traitor guardsmen. It just feels right somehow.

the first dude and the legionaires are not realy part of what the list tries to replace.

the rest is just bad.

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

I don't think the list is trying to replace anything. I think it's just a themed up detachment that you can add to Chaos army if you so choose. The decision to make 40k rules for these models is just a value add option to help justify the price of the box.

I would like to be able to have and field more negavolt cultists in a unit without buying another box. Putting in the restriction that you can only use four was unnecessary.

Actually yes, the list will replace R&H which replaced the lost and the damned.

And yes the limits are gak.

Yeah, the limits are weird. I don't know why they limited units to so few. It can't possibly be for balance issues. If they made Ogryn 1-5, Negavolts 4-10, Traitor Guardsmen 5-15, beastmen 4-10, Black legionnaires 5-20 (keep the one unit maximum), and Rouge psychers 1-3 (they split up after deployment) it would make an interesting list. That's assuming a bunch of wargear option and a couple new units obviously.

I'm not for sure that GW intended to stealth release a whole new faction, but they basically did. People I've talked to are pretty excited to see the list expanded to an actual codex army.

I voted with my wallet. I love it and I wanted to go all-in on Blackstone Fortress but the price is unjustifiable. And the Traitor Command box is five bucks more than the Ambull? No, no thanks. The prices of the expansions for this game are ridiculous and I just won't reward GW for them - even when I've got access to discounted UK pricing through relatives over there.

i was willing to expirience it, but after the price was out, i was outpriced.

I'd say the main ugly is how slow GW is being releasing the expansions. BSE came out last year and we are just getting the second expansion. I liked the game and my gaming group played a lot of it but we finished the main quest and the expansions really don't add enough to keep us interested.

GW needs to be more timely with this kind of stuff, if they had dropped like a month or two after the game came out I probably would have bought it despite it;s rather steep price.

I'm still waiting for Combat Arena, that's where my money will go when that expansion drops, this trickle feed of news and images doesn't help.

Combat Arena is NA and Germany only from what was said, and was supposed to only hit places like Barnes and Noble.

"Escalation" is the version that comes with the Cultists and is supposed to be available worldwide.

I also voted with my wallet on this one. I really wanted it, but £37.50 is just taking the piss.

I picked it up from a discounting store and am funding the card parts by ebaying the models. Should make it about cost neutral based on what I've seen them go for so.far...

Also.if anyone is after just the models, I have a couple of ebay auctions you might be interested in
