My Ultra are too unwieldy to ever hit the field full-force. Most I’ve had down at once is a full battle company. One thing I like to do when making army lists is to pick something from the dust, and bring it out to play. Not all at once; they are dusty for a reason, but I like to rotate less-used things into the light from time to time.

That’s not going to help minis from dead games, or abandoned armies. But it does help a bit.

The other saving grace was my last RPG group, when my old armies would sometimes get units tapped for the night’s encounter. But my current group doesn’t break out a battle mat, and just keeps things free form. But as one of our GMs was very fond of demons and undead as bad guys, it let some of my stuff hit the table, even when I wasn’t playing WHFB.

My fantasy minis see play in my dungeons and dragons campaigns, so do my historicals. But my sci fi stuff mostly just sits there since I don't play 40K any more.

I would like to get more use out of all of it, but I am happy to be getting ANY use after years of no gaming.

Every army I've ever owned was purchased with the intent to hit 3,000 points. Since the great sell off during 6th Ed. 40K and 8th Ed. WFB left me with only a few factions per system, I've been picking up where I left off. Now, the goal is a playable 2,000 in 6th Ed. WFB and a playable 1,500 in 3rd Ed. 40K with enough extras to allow for some modularity. Don't know if I'll hold to that or if I'll blow past, but I know that prices make it more difficult to do so on a whim.

Looking for dice from the new AOS boxed set and Dark Imperium on the cheap. Let me know if you can help.

In total, including the grey plastic pile of shame? Somewhere approaching 1000 at an estimate. This includes about 20 vehicles.

In painted stuff? I just did a quick count including digging out my old armies.

Dark Angels- 70 (total), including 8 vehicles. Ravenwing component (of the 70) is 18, including 3 vehicles.
Death Watch- 32, including 1 vehicle.
Tzeench Demons- 34
Purple Death Legion (vanilla marines, old army from 4th or 5th Ed)- 35, including 3 vehicles.
My first DA army- 26 poorly painted miniatures. lol

I counted bikes as 1 miniature, there are 18 in there.

Dark Angels > Purple Death Legion (Purple Vanilla Marines) > Dark Angels > Death Watch > Thousand Sons with special appearances by Tzeench Demons

You had the nerve to build TWO stompas?! I only completed one and swore never to purchase another one. Construction was a pain in the butt and painting took an awful lot of time.

So , if we assume there are 'rookie numbers', where would be the step to semi-pro / pro ?

Just under 5000 in Death Guard/Nurgle Daemons, about 3500 Stygies VIII Ad Mech, roughly 3000 of Necrons and only god knows how many points of ultramarines I have. Also a few random models here and there, Celestine and the like.

I like a bit of variety in my armies.

I was totting mine up the other day due to this thread, and I reckon if I stopped buying minis now, and painted at the same rate I have been doing (which is reasonably often for pretty long periods) it’d likely take me 3-4 years to clear my backlog. That wouldn’t be too bad, but I only restarted collecting again 2 years ago.

Ditto after over a decade of collecting someone would have to pay me to even try to count all my models. I would need to take a vacation from work, and wade through kits in my back room like a 5 year old in a ball pit.
