Over the Horizon, the definitive supplement for Horizon Wars is available from Wargame Vault, now! But why not got via Precinct Omega's own downloads page and pick up the free The Maul rules while you're there?

Horizon Wars is a 2-10mm science fiction combined arms wargame (although some people play it at 15mm, too) designed to be played with whatever minis you have handy.

Over the Horizon adds a wealth of new options, including:
  • Superheavy units

  • Transforming robots (and other things)

  • Tactical electronic warfare

  • Giant monsters

  • Weird science

  • Solo and cooperative play rules

  • Tournament rules

  • and MORE!

  • Over the Horizon is £15.00 for the PDF, but if you prefer your supplements in the FREE variety, do check out our downloads page for The Maul - a blend of soccer and basketball played by giant robots (and even squishy humans who are mad enough) - and Battle Royale, the ultimate one-on-one mech combat game.

So, would this game give people something to do with their Robotech Tactics minis, CAV minis, and Dropzone Commander minis, all in one battlefield? How does the solo game option work?

Totally would work with a mix of Robotech Tactics, and all that other stuff. In fact, I've played Horizon Wars using Firestorm Planetfall and Dropzone Commander minis versus a buddy with Robotech Tactics. Great little game, honestly. And yes, I just grabbed that expansion, too.

This game was a god-send back when Adeptus Titancius was released, and all one could afford was just two packs of Knights. Although AT has solid rules for Knights, HW is a perfect match.

Bit confused why Osprey is not publishing this expansion - surely it wouldn't hurt them to do a paper-back, like they do Frostgrave expansions? I'll be getting it regardless, but it would have been super cool to have Osprey present it.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Only thing we didn't find darn near perfect with HW was the aircraft rules. And then you only need those if you include aircraft in your games. But otherwise, complete fans so I sent my buddy the link. I expect he'll be coming back about how we need to buy this supplement

The aircraft rules do feel a touch light, but honestly work well enough IMO. And yeah, easy enough to just not have aircraft. Definitely handles mechs, tanks, and infantry really well, though.

This is the system that lets you point your own units, correct? Or am I thinking of something else?

The Mechs, yes, and you spend given points on both stats and traits. Infantry and vehicles are set in stone.

Not quite set in stone, as you get Command Resources to tweak your conventional elements. But Over the Horizon offers some more options for conventional elements, too.

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

Love Horizon Wars so I will look closely at this.

I also happen to have a bunch of Robotech RPG Tactics that could be dusted off too.

Do the monster rules cover large, burrowing worms? Could they be used to simulate Dune?

Of course! I'm a huge Dune fan, so I couldn't not have rules for Shai Hulud.

In fact, there are two options for tunneling elements: the Tunneler upgrade is a simple "disappear and reappear" rule, but the Burrower upgrade (in the Weird Horizons section) allows for a more dramatic version of something tunneling just below the surface.

    Update:

Now available in full colour hard cover from Wargame Vault. I've also updated the digital file with the new layout, graphics and one, very minor correction to the rules.

Self-publishing is hard, but I'm getting the hang of it.

    Regards,

    Robey

This is going on my list. Played 4 games of Horizon Wars with my son and nephews, and we all had a lot of fun. Some of the new rules will really come in handy when Dune comes out.

I fell madly in love with this game, thanks to this thread, but missed out on the supplement. This was a perfect reminder!

So what does the future hold for additional Horizon Wars content?

It's really uplifting to hear that sort of enthusiasm. It makes all the hard work seem worth it!

2020 is a busy year for me (bearing in mind I also have a day job). I have amicably parted ways with Osprey, which had opened the way for a collaboration with Strato Minis. Horizon Wars: Hardwar is on its way. This is a version of HW specifically written for Strato's "Hardwar 6mm" miniatures range, but it will be 100% backwards-compatible with both HW and OtH. No release date confirmed, yet.

I am also currently running a Patreon for the 15-28mm skirmish version of the game, Horizon Wars: Zero Dark, which you can find out more about here: https://www.patreon.com/precinctomega

Finally, there will be a new edition of HW eventually. Probably in 2021. There will be almost no changes to the game itself, so people with the original won't need to buy a new copy of they don't want to, but it will address all of the FAQs and Errata from the original and, hopefully, I'll have enough money to add all new art.

Thanks Robbie! You're a real talent, and have given my friends a lot of joy. Thank you so much for that.

Oh, here's a weird question. One of my friends keeps telling me about an "Adventure Mode" you once had up as a free supplement, but I can't seem to find it. Was it folded into the official supplement, or is it otherwise available?

As promised, I picked up the supplement. Terrific work Robey! A nice chunk of extra content that adds even more width to a terrific rules-set. I really encourage others to pick it up, and would love to see even more of this particular sort of Horizon Wars in the future.

I feel like model agnostic engines that start strong only get better and better as they give more options to customize and build units. It lets the player's imagination rule the day, and helps remind me of how the hobby feels when it is player-centric, and not a competitive meta-spending grind.

Well shoot, you guys got me interested enough to pull the trigger and pick up the original book.

Now I'm going to have to get Bob the Inquisitor to run me through a game or two.

The expansion book sounds even more interesting!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I’ll be happy to. However, like with DFC, I mostly stuck with the basic rules and ignored the more complicated scenario materials.

Where is that Prospero style cathedral from? I have the DFC starter terrain but I didn't follow releases afterwards once the two games I planned on using it with (Robotech and Heavy Gear) bellyflopped.

Exactly the right way to play. I usually make up scenarios on the fly. The book just contains some of the ones I made up when developing the game.
